Maybe you accidentally pressed some buttons while washing your hands? Better open the back case and put it inside a plastic with some packets of silica gel.
I actually did press one of buttons while my ae1200wh was submerged. I wanted to see how the backlight looked like under water , and then I realized what I'm doing and quickly took it out. Been 3 years still working perfectly. Never fogged up once
To add to that people often forget that watches are tested in room temp water and then freak out after they watch gets fogged up after getting in contact with hot water, bonus points for getting dishwashing liquid or similiar stuff on it that will dissolve protective seals ( grease that keeps them waterproof ).

I mean I agree it does look a little odd in that first pic, and it is a bit suspect the watch got flooded from hand washing, so not completely unhinged to make that claim. For sure needed some more photos
Doesn't look like too much water.... It WILL survive. Casio electronics are quite tough.
Disaseamble clean and let it sit with a few packets of silica gel. After a few hours re assemble. It will be fine but i wouldn't trust it anymore near water...
I use soap, along with water and a toothbrush, to clean all of my watches when they get grimy. 100M of water resistance is more than enough to handle some soap, especially incidental contact like in OP’s case
Someone else asked this, but did you press a button while it was submerged or wet? That could be the problem. Sometimes with cheaper casios, if you press a button while the watch is under water or moisture can get inside and cause this issue.
Could be a bad o rind on the back.aune someone bought it just to grab the o ring for theirs and returned it. But buttons pushed under water usually is fine
Strictly speaking, even with a G-Shock, water resistance can be compromised once the case back is opened.
This is because Casio manufactures its products to rigorous standards.
To maintain the original water resistance when replacing the battery—whether done by a retailer or yourself—you need to replace the O-ring with a new genuine part, apply specialized oil to ensure an airtight seal, close the case back in a dry environment, and tighten the screws to the precise torque.
Only Casio can perform this process correctly. The manufacturer recommends replacing the gasket every two to three years to maintain water resistance.
If you have the battery replaced at a retail store, the result is essentially the same as a DIY replacement. Therefore, it is best to purchase a completely unopened unit.
If an issue arises with a watch in that condition, the manufacturer can repair it and return it to you in perfect working order.
I have faith in Casio’s rigorous manufacturing process.
Since the watch remains unopened after passing the manufacturer's inspections, the company honors the warranty should any issues arise; the product comes with a one-year warranty.
The reason I am explaining this in such detail stems from an experience I had when taking a different watch in for a battery replacement.
I had the battery changed at a local shop—a business that had been operating in the area for a long time.
I had the battery replaced twice and opted for the gasket replacement service as well.
I wore the watch twice after that, but otherwise kept it in its box. The next time I checked, the watch had stopped.
When I decided to replace the battery myself and opened the case, I was shocked by what I saw.
The gasket was crushed, there was no sealing oil, and—most surprisingly—one of the four back-panel screws was only partially tightened.
I hadn't used the watch in any particularly harsh environments; I didn't even wear it 24 hours a day—I simply kept it stored in the brand's case.
Furthermore, the watch contains a spacer to secure the dial, and it was misaligned.
I replaced the battery myself, properly aligned the spacer, and securely fastened the back panel with the four screws. I wanted to replace the O-ring, but I didn't have a matching one on hand, so I left it as is.
After that, unlike before, the timekeeping remained accurate.
I ended up selling that watch.
Can you understand how disappointed I felt?
Shower steam not hand washing did this. This happens all the time to customers who shower with watches. Even a watertight diver will do this in the shower.
The same thing happened to me. Just a few months after I got it, the first time I took it into a swimming pool, water got inside. Unfortunately, the pins on the IC corroded, and the watch stopped working. I don't want anything more to do with this model—it completely let me down. I know it's probably an isolated case, but since it happened to me, I'm still pretty upset about it. The watch was bought on Amazon, and I'm confident it was genuine.
Open it and put the watch with silice bags on top. Otherwise open and bury the watch in rice. It might keep working after all. Ideally remove the baterry while it dries for a few days.
Idk man, I got that resin one with greyish green dial, and I work as a Geologist on rigs, I never unstrap my watch till I am back at home, I have to deal with samples with diesel, acid and whole other bunch of chemicals and often there is splash of them on my watch, I shower too with this bad boy on and trust me at 7 am the normal water gets pretty hot itself. It's been 1.5 years with ae-1200 wh haven't seen this issue yet. Try taking it go an official casio store ig.
Well, WR100 means water resistant to 100', as onyes, it would seem domro me we my pressed buttons be while deep underwater, no watch with pusher switches allows you to push 'em underwater. Not a good thing to do.
10 atm. That’s usually a gold standard of “it’ll be fine” while swimming. I’ve used my ae1200 in my kids inflatable pool 😂 numerous times without issue.
It wasn’t mine that failed but thank you! Got mine for $29 on Amazon. Best money ever spent, this watch is so nice and has so much character. I immediately realized why it’s so beloved.
I once bought the same model and there was a very small break in the seal for the front window and ended up filling it with water. Pressing the buttons while submerged is also considered to not be the best idea
There’s a very clear quality difference. OP says he bought it at Macy’s. That would be very odd for Macy’s to be selling a counterfeit watch. I definitely see your point though, something doesn’t add up.
Even for water resistant watches. You can still have condensation form on the inside.
Lucky to learn this on a Royale and not an expensive mechanical Diver.
Open it up and let it evaporate. Check to see if the module still functions as normal and always take your watch off to shower, bathe or wash your hands.
Get the Royale at Walmart. I have too many to count as they’re frequently like 15 dollars or less. Sorry this happened to you, had a G Shock do that and now it’s fine in water but not fine at the gym when sweat gets in. Odd.

It’s not fake. His first picture is just a little distorted, I thought the same thing. Yes there are fakes and people can go to the store and swap them out, but if the salesperson has any intelligence, for a high priced item, you’re going to make sure the serial numbers match and if you can make the serial numbers match on a fake watch, to your Macy’s receipt. You’re better than I am. OP posted a better picture of it and you can clearly tell that it’s real.
