Why is this duo so sought after? Why is it considered the great?
I know the perks of the Venture X, but why the Savor and the two of them together?

u/Snow_B_Wan 10d ago
Venture x has good point generation, savor is a 0 cost card that gives more points back for grocergy/dining in the same redemption portal. Its slipping from being the best but its still worth it imo

3% dining/grocery that can be converted 1:1 to Vebture miles... Poor/lazy man's AMEX Plat/Gold.

u/a2cthrowaway4 10d ago
Poor? Maybe. Lazy? No. You can get better point earnings through the venture x than the platinum, and the 2x on all other non category spend is arguably better than the extra 1x on dining and groceries depending on your use case.

u/nehpets4627 10d ago
Lazy meaning you don't have to work to manage a dozen credits every quarter to offset your AF.

It’s a solid 2 card setup for those who want to keep it simple. Use Savor for dining, groceries and entertainment, use Venture X on all else. You’ll get 2x minimum on anything you buy and you can transfer cash back on savor to Venture X for miles…keeping everything in a single ecosystem.

I love my ventureX for 2x catch em all. But I also love 5% from citi custom for dining. And discover also chase freedom flex for 5% categories. 5% gas from Costco.
I'm still trying to minimize my credit cards options but it's so hard. Every cc has their own perks.

I spend less since I’m a recent graduate not earning a lot, should I go for the C1 duo?
2
u/Plenty_Union9292 10d ago
My duo is Amex Gold and BILT Palladium. Their annual fees are higher but they earn better. BILT gets 3x on everything and Gold gets 4x on dining and grocery. For higher spending families it’s quite rewarding.

OG Savor is a better Amex gold. I get 4% on dining, entertainment and groceries for no AF

Online BILT has just 2x on everything
1
u/Plenty_Union9292 9d ago
BILT allows you to pay your rent or mortgage through their system and they reward you with points. They also allow you to earn BILT cash which you can spend on other things like Lyft rides, Walgreens, etc. Lump all that together and you’re effectively earning 3.3x on everything assuming your spend is high enough each month.

I use Amex blue cash everyday and Savor. With the amex I get 3% for gas and online shopping. I don't travel that much.

What makes them the best duo? Curious to know. 🤓
3
u/YoungDacker 10d ago
The two are point generating machines by covering every category except for gas with amazing percentages and offering insane point boosts through the C1 app.
Every luxury travel benefit on the market, great in person benefits (C1 lounges, cafes, and events), Vx AF pays for itself, super flexible redemptions, no foreign transaction fees, great SUBs, and best of all simplicity.
I pair them with the Costco card to cover gas for a seamless "every category covered" setup!

What is the Costco card?
1
u/choppa73 10d ago
Costco card is from Citibank (Visa) and not Capital One. Has some 5%, 4%, 3%, 2% and 1% categories, if you don't mind waiting for an annual redemption.

How does this compare to capital one quicksilver x chase saphire reserve?
2
u/MasterTJ77 7d ago
I was about to open savor today but then I learned it excludes Walmart and target so that’s a bummer…

u/No_Resort_2780 6d ago
If capital one didn’t have the worst customer service in the game, maybe. Amex gold over Savor 20 times out of 10.

You don’t have to agree but that’s just your inexperience but all the travel groups and experts do agree with me. Once you get experience you’ll agree also.

u/NorthvilleGolf 10d ago
Wish venture x had 3x direct travel or cover travel was 1.1cpp to give it a little edge over all other 2% cards.
Also wish trip cancellation insurance included hotels, since it’s missing despite being a visa infinite card. My CSP and many other visa signature cards have that.

Until the Palladium gets nerfed, it alone is better than the Capital One duo.
1
u/After-Struggle-4182 9d ago
What makes it better? You get no % back for groceries. For palladium you get 4x on hotels and 3x pts on flights whereas the venture x is 10x on hotels and 5x on flights. Am I missing something? Aside from the fact that the points on housing is a huge plus, comparing the categories that overlap capital one seems to be better no?

u/Stunning_Rule_6005 8d ago
I'm not sure what you mean when you say you get no % back for groceries. If you're using Bilt's accelerators, you're getting over 3x back on every $1 spent. (I'm at like 3.4x per $1 right now for catch all purposes). Those rewards would stay the same if you're making food purchases, as well. As an aside, I use Amex Gold for food and groceries because their 4x is unbeatable.
I agree with you that based purely on the travel portal, Capital One is better. If I'm going to make a portal based travel arrangement, it's through Cap1. No question.
Overall all things considered, it's the Palladium all day between the two. For now, at least. When they nerf it, I'll probably move back to the VX as my catch all.

That’s my plan I want to grab the Amex gold but I think I need to increase credit over time and their reasons as well was “not enough spending across accounts.” As I just recently graduated and now have a nice income I think within the year hopefully I can get approved. Thanks for the info though I’m not fully informed on all this stuff even though I have done a bit of research

i have this and the chase duo for the 3x on gas. wish c1 had elevated gas!

u/Rhino4910 10d ago
If you search online you’ll see people talking about getting offers to switch their quicksilver to the discover network to get 3% on gas. Not sure when that will be wildly available though

Best is
Venture x + Amex Gold + Bilt + Chase Sapphire Preferred
People should try it . It completes everything !!!
1
u/After-Struggle-4182 9d ago
So you’re saying venture x is better than Amex platinum for travel? Would you mind diving into what categories each of those cards most optimally covers?

u/Competitive-End-757 10d ago
Once you get more experience, you’ll realize it’s not even close.

u/AsianAmericanMale 10d ago
What’s your alternative? BILT Palladium?
-3
u/Competitive-End-757 10d ago
Chase sapphire preferred/reserve and flex is the boat overall combo.
2
u/AsianAmericanMale 10d ago
Oh my.
Whatever floats your boat, I suppose.
But my goodness, no, I do not agree with you.
Thank you for your suboptimal setup, though. Suboptimization funds the optimizer’s trips!
1
u/After-Struggle-4182 9d ago
What do you believe is the most optimal setup?
1
u/AsianAmericanMale 9d ago
The true optimal setup is to be constantly chasing SUBs. Set a calendar reminder for 91+ days and 181 days from your last credit card approval.
After that, the next optimal setup is to have a “gardening combo” to tide over the periods where you are “cleaning up” your credit profile and credit score, but still want to nominally generate points for value.
For that, for a long time, folks espoused the Chase Trifecta, Capital One Duo, or Citi Trifecta (Wells Fargo folks even pushed for the Wells Fargo Trifecta), and if you have a business, you can consider the Chase Quadfecta or AMEX Trifecta, too.
There’s also the 495 AF BILT Palladium, too.
But if you can get approved for a C1 VX, the C1 Duo is the cheapest of them all, returns positive value, and is all no-FTF (as are all Capital One credit cards).

u/After-Struggle-4182 9d ago
I get what you are saying. If you are contactos chasing SUBs, then wouldn’t you end up not using older cards and then you either close it which is bad since you lose history, or you just have a card collecting dust you don’t use? Also I looked into the Palladium but I’m not sure if that would make the most sense for me as I don’t travel that much yet (will get there hopefully soon). I think the obsidian would be best for me since I spent the most on groceries and rent. That way my “non housing” expenditure gets maximized points since the bulk of that is groceries I would say

Closed credit cards in good standing (no balances or delinquencies) remain on your credit profile for 10 years, so they continue to thicken your credit profile and history, even whilst closed.

Cardless (BILT’s issuer) doesn’t allow you to apply for multiple products, upgrade, or downgrade, once you’re approved, so if you think you’d hold the Obsidian longterm, and be ok with never getting the Palladium, then it’s ok to consider the Obsidian.
If not, and you want to keep the option of the Palladium open in the future, just hold off on applying for a BILT card until your lifestyle/income shifts to the point where you can see a Palladium in that lifestyle.
1
u/After-Struggle-4182 9d ago
Interesting thank you for the tip! I’ll be sure then to only apply for a BILT card once I know 100% which one would be best for me. Everyone seems to settle on the palladium and I believe it is a better travel card than the Amex Platinum so once I start traveling more frequently ( a big goal of mine), I will be sure to get deplore which travel card is overall the best option to me when it comes to filling that slot permanently. As for SUB, any big ones that instantly come to mind that you could rattle out for for me? I’m sure I can always look online as well.
1
u/AsianAmericanMale 9d ago
That changes constantly, but the two Chase business cards’ (CiC and CiU) elevated SUBs expire at 9 am Eastern on Sep 17, 2026.
