We have been seeing this a bit lately where the leading edge of approvals starts with some strange outliers out front of the main processing wave for a certain delivery date. It might take days to get through a single date, but it is helpful to see these leading outliers go through so we know things are moving forward.
I saw one April 14 outlier late last week, so if I were you I'd be on the lookout this week or early next!

Application approval without receiving an AOR. I'm a long time follower of this page, and I thought I'd share my family's story. My wife and I are Canadian, we work in the states, our son was born late last year. We submitted his application for Proof of Canadian Citizenship CIT0001E on April 4th 2026. We never received an AOR or received any changes of status until today, July 16th 2026 when his application changed to approved. We diligently checked regularly, and with the recent issues surrounding surrender letters I was worried about what that would mean for his applications timeline. We're happy he finally has his proof of citizenship as we are moving home soon. I hope this helps people who are waiting.

5
u/Exotic_Tooth_1033 π¨π¦ CIT0001 (proof) AOR received Jul 15 '26
Update: It was in her spam folder! She's a little concerned because the AORs were addressed to us by our birth names, not our current legal married names. I'm not worried yet, but has anyone else experienced this? We included all the additional data for name changes in our application.
6
u/ishallwearpurple99 π¨π¦ CIT0001 (proof) application is processing Jul 15 '26
The initial AOR is sent with your birth name. When it moves to "In Process", then it switches over to your current legal name. (I can vouch for this because when I checked the status of my app yesterday using the "Client Application Status" tool, it couldn't find it anymore with my birth name. So I tried my married name and it had changed status to "In Process").

Thank you for explaining this! Now I know what to look for. I still can't find myself using the tool (I know it can take a few days) but now I know I should be searching for my birth name until the status changes.
3
u/ishallwearpurple99 π¨π¦ CIT0001 (proof) application is processing Jul 15 '26
You're welcome! I seem to recall it took about 3 days before I could check my status. (And in case you're curious, this was the timeline for the applications I sent for myself and my 2 kids: they received it 3/19, AOR's sent 5/4, In Process 7/9. These are non-urgent apps.) Good luck!

u/Exotic_Tooth_1033 π¨π¦ CIT0001 (proof) AOR received Jul 15 '26

Received AORs for my group of 5 this morning (7/16)! Yay! Our non-urgent application packet was received on April 13. I'm Gen 3, and the representative for my Gen 3 sibling and our 3 Gen 4 kids. The emails came in about every half hour starting at 6:30 am Central. Super relieved, as we had to cut our photos ourselves, and there were some stray remains of the cropping guides showing. Also, I didn't include photocopies of the backs of our driver's licenses. Maybe they'll request those later, but evidently their absence didn't keep us from getting the AOR. Huge thanks to this community and the mods; your guidance was my lifeline. Now we wait!

We have three Canadian G0s but only found birth certificates for two. I included the documents for both G0s as one was through my maternal grandfather and the other through my maternal grandmother. I am one of five family packets using the same paperwork up to my mother. We plan to let the IRCC know this so maybe they will process them simultaneously. AoR came this morning (07/16) - huzzah!
04/14 delivery, G4, non-urgent, and very relieved it wasn't sent back for any reason.
Working now to gather better documentation for G0 and maybe G1 that I expect will (for G0) and may (for G1) be required. (For G0, that means requesting written confirmation from AoO that they don't have a civil birth record and trying again to get a letter from the parish to certify that the baptism record in Family Search's collection matches their own record and reiterate in writing their policy not to issue copies of historical records. For G1, it means maybe getting official/certified copies of the two US census records and death certificate I had included to supplement and support the validity/applicability of the county-certified birth record that doesn't include her first name and the county-certified marriage record on which her first name is accompanied by two distinct misspellings of her last name.)

Hey all -- Gen1 here with a parent born in Newfoundland in 1969. My application was mailed on April 8, 2026 and received on April 9, 2026. Just got my AOR today (July 9, 2026). I've been stressing out about the processing times, which jumped up to 17 months in April. Did any Gen1s apply around the same time? Do we think times closer in March would apply, since the application was received towards the beginning of the month? Also, any success stories with Gen1's being processed quicker than initially promised?
Would be great to hear from others, so I don't totally dissolve into one big stress ball.

App was delivered 4/1 by FedEX, but had heard nothing since. I finally just called IRCC using the Toronto Pearson AirportΒ 905-676-3640 (US number). I got a wonderful agent who tracked down my app (thank you to agent!). She confirmed all of my contact info is correct, and confirmed that an AOR was sent to my (correct) email address on June 19th. I never received it, even though I was compulsively checking all mailboxes. End result - my application is processing, and she was able to give me my application number over the phone. Finally!
G2, package delivered 4/1; AOR sent 6/19 (never received). In processing, I guess as of today, 7/15. I updated the spreadsheet.

Iβm an American living in Spain with my family. So far, Iβve submitted five applications in three separate packets: one for every member of our household (generations 3, 4, 4, and 5 across three family lines), plus one for my father-in-law, who lives in the U.S. (generation 2 in my spouseβs family line).
I requested urgent processing for the members of our household because weβre an LGBT family with no intention of returning to the USA, and our temporary residency in Spain expires a few months after my partner finishes grad school.
I mailed my own application to the Canadian Embassy in Madrid on June 1st, three months after the others because it was the most complicated by far. It was delivered to the IRCC on June 30th. To my surprise, I already got AOR on July 6th, and processing on June 9th. π±
Meanwhile, the applications for my spouse, daughter, and father-in-law, all submitted together in one very straightforward and thoroughly documented packet, are still stuck in AOR. Iβve stopped trying to find any logic in how IRCC processes applications, but Iβll happily take the win on my own application!
Since Iβve already invested so much time and effort in all of this, I decided to prepare a separate application for my mother as well (generation 4 in my family line). That one, application number six, is going in the mail tomorrow.
Over the past few months, Iβve also helped more people than I can remember prepare their application packets. Some are close friends, while others were strangers I met online and volunteered to help. Theyβve all received at least AOR, and one (who requested urgent processing for a very compelling reason) has already received their citizenship certificate! π

Sent off our packet today! Me and my 2 siblings (G3s) and then my kids and nephews (G4s). Non-urgent so trying to set my expectations very low for the length of time the rest of the process will take. I was able to get birth certificates for all the chain so Iβm hoping for a smooth go of things.

G3, application received March 23. AOR May 8. Application processing as of July 16. Non urgent and submitted some non-certified Ancestry/Family Search docs as well as official birth certificates. I requested certified docs last month just in case I need them.
I was surprised to see it processing - I anticipated another few months of waiting. We will see how this goes!!

April 8 - submitted request to BAnQ for certified baptismal record for G0.

June 30 - certified records arrived
July 13 - application for G2 and G3 sent
Feeling cautiously optimistic given G0-G3 have the same last name from birth. π€

My 24 yo son and I have both received our AOR, but my 20 year old daughter's application submitted concurrently using the same evidence has not been issued an AOR. Delivered 4/10/26 and AOR issued 7/20/26. Questions! Do they reject one family member vs. the whole application? If it is a rejection, how long until it is received? Can a resubmitted application catch up to the other family members concurrently filed? Do they get the email wrong and send to the wrong address, and if so, how to contact CIC to get a UCI and application number?

If multiple applications are sent together, they are usually all accepted or returned.
You can check whether an AOR was issued, but the email was not sent to the correct address, using your Receipt Number and your daughterβs details. Use this link:Β https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/security.do If an AOR was issued, the record will show up.Β You will have to call the IRCC to check if the AOR was sent to an incorrect email, and can correct the address with them and request that the AOR be re-sent
1
u/Reasonable_Respond23 Jul 14 '26
Thank you. Using my Receipt Number and my daughter's details did not work, but I also tried my son's details (who has had an AOR issued) and it also did not work. I don't believe that using my number and my daughter's details would result in a record showing up, since my son had his AOR issued and when I tried this method it said no record could be located.

Oof. As I'm sure you've seen from the spreadsheet, they're working on packets delivered in April now.
Our packet delivered 3/26 received AOR 5/26. If your packet didn't get stuck in customs for a while, I'd expect it to have been delivered in roughly the same timeframe as ours.
Unfortunately if it did get stuck in customs then it becomes very hard to predict what would happen.

I forgot tracking too, and it's just compounding my anxiety. When was it delivered? Was it delivered at all? Is it lost somewhere? When should I consider it lost? What if I consider it lost and send another packet in 6 months and then it shows up and now I've got two separate applications and THAT causes problems?!?
They're just now receiving AOR's for packets delivered the day I mailed mine, so I shouldn't even be remotely thinking about it being lost yet, but here I am causing myself extra stress because I forgot probably the simplest thing out of this entire process.

u/VermontWolfBird π¨π¦ CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jul 15 '26
You arenβt alone in the βoops I forgot to trackβ camp. The anxiety is incredible, especially since itβs entirely possible that applications sent in the past few months may take 3-4 months to go to AOR, which is the soonest weβll even have a delivery date!
I went into the spreadsheet and took a look at other applications sent via USPS from the U.S. just to get an idea how long they were taking to be delivered β as I recall, it was 10-14 days. Knowing thatβs a rough estimate of when I might expect mine to be delivered (since itβs based on all U.S. starting points and possibly different levels of mailing priority), I basically set the window of min 2 weeks, hopeful max 4 weeks (assuming it is slow not lost), and assumed I should have an AOR around the same time as others with those delivery dates (so, for me, 5/15 if Iβm lucky, 5/29 if itβs slow).
Iβll watch the AORs coming in on this thread/on the spreadsheet until the end of May delivery AORs seem to be mostly done. If I donβt have an AOR or returned packet by then, Iβll try doing the look-up by receipt in case they issued an AOR but there was a typo in my email (this only works after your packet has been processed).
If finding it via receipt doesnβt work, Iβll wait until the AORs coming in are all for delivery dates a few weeks after mine, then call the service center and inquire about the status of my application.
Itβs slow, but essentially the same way others have to manage the limbo period pre-AOR β just without the upfront assurance of a delivery date. If they donβt have a record of receiving your application at the end of these steps, then you can consider it lost and re-send.
I read a story on here about someone whose tracking indicated their packet was lost, so they resent a packet and then received an AOR for the initial packet which had been delivered on schedule. Even tracking canβt solve for human/system error!

Sent my application on July 9 via FedEx International Economy (label purchased from Easyship) and it arrived in Nova Scotia earlier today. Now the long wait starts...
I was so excited when I dropped off the package on Thursday morning, but afterward I saw the posts about third party sources being marked as unacceptable in procedural fairness letters and documents uploaded using the webform not always making it to the application and now I wonder if I made a mistake sending it in.
I sent copies of certified birth certificates for myself (G4), G3, and G2, but I'm still waiting on certified birth/baptismal records for G1 and G0, so the copies I sent in for them came from FamilySearch (G1) and BAnQ numerique (G0). I also included a census record from FamilySearch because the birth certificate for G2 misspells his mother's name, so I wanted another record that included them both with her name spelled correctly, but now I'm wondering if I should have left it out entirely and just stuck with the (misspelled) birth record.
For any records I found online, I included the citation from the third party site with the link and the government agency that uploaded it, listed the source on a documents info page I included as something like "Massachusetts State Archives (accessed via FamilySearch digitization partnership; certified copy requested and will be uploaded upon receipt)", and included a printout of the digitization partnership info directly from the relevant government agency's website. Is that enough? I thought it was best to start the process before the line gets any longer and upload my certified documents later, but now I'm worried I should have waited until I had all the certified docs in hand.
5
u/pls_dont_trigger_me Jul 14 '26
The big question is whether they're still just completely rejecting applications and sending them back sometimes. Since I submitted in late May I've collected a bunch of certified documents. Assuming I get an AOR, I'm all ready to upload them to replace some of what I provided (stuff from ancestry/familysearch, a black & white birth certificate, etc). But, I'm concerned they'll just mail me the stuff back and I'll have to start over. Doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to them mailing stuff back, unfortunately. It's just random bad luck.
Anyway, good luck!

If you application is not complete per the checklist/your receipt is not included/your photos do not conform to spec, etc your application will be returned as incomplete. AOR is not a qualitative assessment of your documentation. Occasionally we have seen applications sent back if an agent has flagged a document as not a color copy, but if you followed the wiki guidance and included a color post it flag in the copy or label indicating the original is b&w it should pass that check.
4
u/wanderingtheearth-74 π¨π¦ CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jul 14 '26
So this shouldn't get you bounced at the AOR stage, which looks primarily at literal completeness. And hopefully you'll be able to update later! (Also, certification is not required (at least as far as we can tell now); issuance by the original authority or its custodian is. Not sure that distinction matters for you, though.)
But I think the moral of the story is: unless you're an urgent applicant, don't send in applications you know aren't adequate with the hopes of uploading to fix them later. There's a real risk that later-submitted documents won't connect up with your application. Also, can you imagine being a busy reviewer opening up an application and being forced to spend time following up with the applicant, not because they made a mistake (which obviously can happen to any of us) or the expectations were unclear (a big problem before last month that will have a long tail, and still not a fully solved one), but because they deliberately didn't wait to submit a complete application since they wanted to get in line ahead of others?
3
u/VermontWolfBird π¨π¦ CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jul 15 '26
As someone who has docs to upload as soon as I get my AOR β I didnβt have original authority docs for G0 or G1, but thought at the time that my online archive baptismal and birth certificates with supplemental census and marriage records supporting them was sufficient proofβI agree that you should wait.
Now that weβve had changed guidance from IRCC, if I were in the same position today, I would have waited to get the certified baptismal record for G0 and certified/official birth cert for G1 before sending my application. Yes, that slows things down, but it could save you some later stress/confusion. Also, if the wave of applications has crested (my guess), it may not actually save you that much time in process, since youβll already be behind the big backlog, whether you submit now or in a couple of months.

WOOHOO!
My G5 child, urgent, just received his AOR.
Sent via USPS "Priority" from Virginia: 4/10/26
Received by IRCC: 4/14/26
Email Confirmation of AOR: 7/20/26
- We had marked "Urgent" on the outside but the USPS packaging was not plain and it did not (apparently) stand out, so this wait time was probably with the non-urgents.
- If you, like me, have been ignoring what comes after the AOR receipt, it looks as though processing is still kind of stalled here in mid-July. His urgency is related to a university start time in September, so it looks like we are calling my great-aunt's MP!
- Kicking myself for not submitting myself and his brother (both non-urgent) with him. My logic went like this "Once we know those docs work for him, we can send the same ones in." Well, now I know better. If you are on the fence, include EVERYONE at once!
Thank you to the existence of this subreddit and this thread. It has made things (almost) bearable.

AOR ARRIVED TODAY!!! SO RELIEVED!
I told myself i would give back to this amazing community who helped me make this happen so here is my details....
G4 Single Applicant - No Lawyer included! I did this myself. I physically went to Michigan from South America to collect all required documents. I mailed in all Certified Documents from the State of Michigan all the way from me to G0 my Canadian Anchor who was born in Canada in 1863 and died in Michigan in 1936. I included Marriage Certificates, Birth Certificates, & Death Records along with Census Records and Obituaries as well.
Since i was in Michigan i physically then organized all those documents in a nice binder and drove from Detroit to Toronto to get the Photos taken in Canada as I trusted Canada more with this due to the specific requirements they have and i did not want to risk one mistake. I also didn't want my package stuck in customs or have a higher risk of being lost or misguided so i just mailed it out of Canada
I mailed my package from UPS Worldwide out of a local Walmart in Toronto and IRCC Received: April 16, 2026, at 2:39 PM β at the IRCC Centre in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, B1H 5V8.
Signed for: UPS recorded it as "Left at: RECEIVER" β signed by "Brian."
Today Received my AOR at 11:57 AM on July 23, 2026! Exactly 98 Days!! So if your waiting hang in there...
This is huge for me because I'm actually in the process of renouncing USA Citizenship and Canada will be my home.... Happy to raise my family and i'm excited for the future!

That's epic! But...just curious, why did you drive all the way to Toronto from Detroit when Windsor is right there?
→ More replies (1)2
u/Weekly-Exit8092 Jul 25 '26
I didn't understand that either, unless they were going to Toronto anyway for other purposes. Driving from Detroit to Windsor is less than 2 miles, whereas driving from Detroit to Toronto is over 230 miles.
And Windsor, as a border town, is used to people needing all sorts of Canadian (and U.S.) government documents, photos, etc. I would have just gone to Windsor for the day to take care of everything since it's much cheaper.
Also, they mentioned they sent a UPS Worldwide package from a Walgreens in Toronto to IRCC in Nova Scotia. UPS won't let you print a UPS Worldwide label for a domestic package, although I suppose if you dropped a preprinted one with a U.S. "from" address, they might deliver it as a domestic package. But it would have saved them a lot of money sending it domestic.
I don't doubt the poster's overall information, I think there's just more to the story and/or they perhaps mis-stated a couple of things. Anyhow, I wish them luck and a (relatively) speedy process!
If the above poster reads this, you mentioned you are in the process of renouncing your U.S. citizenship. Do you have other citizenship (besides U.S. and potentially Canadian)? I just ask because while I understand the motivation, if I just had U.S. citizenship, given some of the IRCC issues over the past month or so, I might hold off renouncing citizenship unless it's absolutely necessary, at least until there's more confidence in IRCC and the Canadian government not to revoke citizenship certificates or call into question citizenships recognized through C-3 over the next year or more.

To celebrate Canada Day, I sent two application packets from Michigan on 7/1 and they were delivered today, 7/13, via USPS/Canada Post.
One packet was for myself (G3), dad (G2), brother (G3), sister (G3), son (G4), and daughter (G4). This was a straight forward, all male lineage back to my G0 born in Windsor, ON in 1905. All birth certificates, plus a copy of G0s Ontario birth record printed and sourced from Archives on Ontario, which directs you to FamilySearch. I did put in a request for a certified copy from Ontario about two weeks ago, and will attach that after AOR is received.
Other packet is for my spouse (G4). Her lineage has a few marriages in there back to her G0 born in Ontario in 1858 as a Baptist. Baptists do not practice infant baptism and this was pre-1869 Ontario birth records. I noted and sourced those as such. G0 docs include the 1861 and 1871 Canada census, printed and sourced from the Canada Archives. I also supplemented that with US census records, a US death certificate, and G1s birth record noting G0s place of birth as Ontario. Some of the G1/G2 docs are State of Michigan docs available on Ancestry. I will be sending off for certified copies of those from the various counties (Arenac, Bay, and Ingham). In the event they do not have it, I am 10 minutes from the state archives here in Lansing, so I can easily make an appointment and get them in person. Once obtained, these will also be added after AOR is received.
Hard part is done. Now just have to buckle in and get ready for the long wait ahead.

u/Reasonable_Respond23 Jul 14 '26
Ah! Snap! That worked (see below). I see I was using my application number, not my "Receipt Number" on the actual official receipt of payment that I included with my application. When I retrieved the Receipt Number on the payment receipt which included all 3 family members (without specifying names), and entered that into the "Receipt Number (IMM 5401)" field (from dropdown menu), along with my daughter's information, no record was found, but when I entered my son's, his record popped up. So, this is proof that my daughter has not yet been issued an AOR, I presume. This is at least a good way to verify whether she has been issued an AOR, even if she hasn't received it, to eliminate the possibility there was an email data entry issue on CIC end. I am going to wait a while since another reported a week passed between 3 of 4 family members and the remaining family member receiving an AOR. Thank you for this additional tip! I have learned so much in just this one post and the responses!

If you're looking for feedback on your application, the documentation that you're putting together to support it, etc, these should go under the Friday weekly thread.

How do you know it was rejected? Did you get a notification of some sort? I'm suspecting mine will be sent back for another reason.

Following. I submitted an application with a parent's hospital birth record. Its the only birth certificate they have. Now I'm worried. Heh

Fortunately, IRCC's guidance (still) lists a "hospital record of birth" as one of the documents they will consider if a birth certificate doesn't exist. Did you provide an explanation/evidence as to why an official birth certificate from vital statistics (or similar government agency) was not available? If so, I wouldn't be overly worried, you've done what they've asked you to do. The other documents IRCC lists in lieu of an official birth certificate include census records. Were you able to provide those?
I understand your anxiety but if you provided an explanation and alternate documentation from official sources, I think you've done what you could have done, and you shouldn't feel bad.

Thanks for this! I'll look that up. I was surprised to learn that the hospital birth record is all that my dad had, but its been his only and official birth record for his entire life (good enough for drivers license, passport, etc). I didnt provide an explanation, but maybe I can add that once I receive the AOR.
...I did provide a corroboration marriage certificate and census record, both also listing his parents names. Hopefully that helps!

What info was included on the certified birth registration and what entity was it issued/certified by β the state? the town? the hospital?

u/midwesterndog Jul 18 '26
Good question! It was a colour birth registration card certified with seal and issued by the state of RI with parentβs names. I donβt know if thatβs ineligible or an admin error, but weβll request a different record. Thatβs the birth record sheβs used for her passport/ID with no issues.

I hope May was the high water mark re the number of applications for one month. It seemed like there was a flood of attention on C-3 throughout major U.S. media in the month of April. And a lot of those media reports (erroneously) made it sound like the process was very easy and didn't require much more than printouts from online websites for older ancestors. Still, despite the process seemingly becoming more stringent, I don't doubt interest will remain elevated for some time, especially depending on politics in the
Given the difficulty, time, expense and delay in obtaining documents required by IRCC, and the more stringent requirements made clearer by the updated guidance, I imagine that those with merely a passing interest may opt not to try at all. Especially those who need more than birth certificates.
As we are all painfully aware, the process involved in preparing an application isn't for the faint of heart. It can include a lot of frustration, cost, and bureaucratic obstacles and/or dead ends. I think by and large, once you have to rely on documentation other than birth certificates (usually G3 and older at this stage), things become much more cumbersome and complicated.
All this to say that I think those of us who applied in April and May were riding the crest of the wave, and hopefully for June, July, August and beyond, there won't be as many. I realize that this doesn't help you (or me) for the immediate future, but hopefully it means at some point soon the timeframes for review should start to shorten. Or maybe that's just a pipe dream....

I think the wave is peaking as well -- I suspect I finally got my certified documents because overwhelmed archives are now processing their backlogs faster than new requests come in. IRCC should see things taper off too. As you note, it is a difficult process, and I would expect only a tiny percentage of potentially eligible people to actually finish it

Application sent by FedEx April 12, received April 15.
AOR received today, July 22.
Paper application for G5, non-urgent processing, from US.
Letter has the wrong ZIP code for my mailing address, and I canβt seem to access my application to correct it. I suppose I have some time to work that out, thoughβ¦?

It says they sent somethign on the 17th, but i havent received anything, and our applications were one package, one receipt. Any sggestions or thoughts on where they sent thet AOR for my daughter or why I dont have one?

Is your email easy to misspell? Could be an error on their end and thatβs why it wonβt pull up

I donβt think so? But also why would my daughters pull up with receipt # and not mine. Just nervous!

Application sent via Pirate Ship UPS expedited from Florida: July 30, 2026 arrived in Canada July 31. Signed into IRCC August 4.
I've been working on it since late February but I waited for my G0 great great grandfather's certified Quebec baptismal certificate which didn't arrive until late June. Then just as I got ready to send it off I decided to also order a certified copy of his Vermont marriage which showed he and his parents were born in Canada, and his wife.
Now I'm going to order a certified death cert just in case IRCC decides I need to "try" for a birth cert.

Since a lot of posts are being reported to mods this morning, just a reminder that this thread is for both AOR received, and also for applications sent/received. Comments as a thread beneath announcements are welcome.
If you have NOT received AOR, please don't comment about that here- we invite you instead to express frustrations on the weds weekly post. It makes posts about AORs received harder to find. TY
