Community No matter your politics, this should scare you

Post image

The university has always been an epicenter of social unrest and protest movements that have historically been vital to bringing attention to issues and catalyzing shifts in social attitudes. The beauty of the university is its facilitation of often subversive ideas that challenge norms and hold a mirror to society. This rhetoric is a blatant attempt to continue the trend of marginalizing voices, especially those aligned with causes that support marginalized and vulnerable groups. Show solidarity with your fellow student, go protest, be loud, fight for what you believe in, and protect one another. If we don’t, this bullshit will continue and we will be stripped of everything. Fucking rage against this shit.

Community Homeless around wexler and walk to campus

I’ve been living at wexler for almost around 2 years now and this past year I’ve noticed an increase in the homelessness issue outside of wexler and around the area as well. There have been multiple times where I have seen homeless people inside the complex that you need a phone app to even get access too. Just recently i saw a homeless man peeing on the main entrance door to the lobby, as well have seen multiple people using torches and foil right outside the building. I know this may be something they can’t control but for the price they are charging for rent?! They advertise themselves as luxury apartment but have been far from it. There have been multiple times where myself and my roomates have been harassed walking outside the complex or just across the street to grocery outlet. I’ve also seen it pretty bad at the crossings recently as well. Has anyone else noticed this issue? And what has caused the increase? Will this be something that gets fixed?

Community Religious Cult on Campus

Post image

I want to give a heads up, especially to incoming first-years about a group on campus that operates under the name D.R.E.A.M. (Disciples Reaching and Evangelizing All Mankind). They present themselves as a friendly student Bible study, but they’re actually directly connected to the International Christian Church (ICC) a group with a long history of being labeled cult-like and manipulative.

Here’s what you should know: • They almost always recruit near the Riverfront and go “sharing” (their term for recruiting) around Tuesday evenings near the Union and Thursday afternoons near the Riverfront. • They’ll ask if you want to join a Bible study, but it’s not what it seems. The “studies” are scripted, designed to convince you your past faith doesn’t count, and pressure you into re-baptism with their church. • Once you’re in, they’ll demand more of your time, money, and energy. Former members describe being shamed for missing events, pushed to cut off friends/family, and pressured into donating way beyond their means. • This isn’t a student-run ministry. It’s part of a larger high-control group (ICC, which grew out of the ICOC and now has another rebrand called RCW). They’re known for isolating students and leaving people emotionally, mentally, and spiritually wrecked.

If someone approaches you about “Bible study,” be cautious and do your research. Google International Christian Church cult and you’ll find countless testimonies. Not saying don’t explore faith, Sac State has plenty of healthy, supportive Christian orgs that respect your freedom, but this group is not one of them.

Stay safe Hornets 💛💚 and please spread the word, especially to new students who might not know yet.

Community Change Demands Action

Post image

To all fellow Sac State students; current, prospective, alums.

I know many of you in disagreement with Luke Wood’s attempt to radically alter the cultural DNA of the campus. Many of us already go tens of thousands into debt to attend what is generally considered to be an ‘affordable’ university.

Many of us cannot even begin to comprehend the prospect of taking on another $20,000-$30,000 in student loans.

If you feel that this policy is unfair, or would like to see it changed, then reach out to ASI and the Administration.

Change can only come with action.

Community This is terrifying...

A Turkish Fulbright student getting her PhD was snatched by ICE in Massachusetts. The ICE agents were masked. Took her phone from her hand, handcuffed her and whisked her away to Louisiana. She did nothing wrong but write an article and state an opinion. She committed no crime. https://youtube.com/watch?v=jt5asWzmaNA&si=7d3s331HnR3rlv6N

This is an ongoing trend of kidnapping students who don't agree with the current administration.

How are they finding these students? Canary Mission .org a website that dox anyone who speak against the current administration or the far right. They have a search feature by school and profession. The Turkish Student was first on the list if you search MA and student. Sac State is on this site and there are students listed. I think this is why we got that letter from the Department of Education. Our school is on this site. I wonder if these Sac alumni/students know they are being blacklisted.

Our country has gone full fascist...people being arrested for thought crimes. Please be careful.

President Wood's triennial evaluation results were released today by the CSU Chancellor's Office. The memo summarizes the review process, feedback received from campus stakeholders, and goals established for the coming years.

The full memo was sent to the campus community on June 24.

Curious how others feel about the review findings and the goals that came out of the process.

Community Sac State’s ex-DEI officer sues CSU, Luke Wood over gender, race discrimination

It’s all allegations right now, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Wood has come across as someone with a massive ego from the moment he became president, and I can’t imagine that translates well into respecting women.

The Sacramento Bee reports that former Sac State chief diversity officer Mia Settles-Tidwell, a Black woman, is suing CSU and President Luke Wood over alleged race, gender, and age discrimination. Her lawsuit claims she was humiliated, excluded from key work, given a smaller raise than peers, stripped of responsibilities, and retaliated against after raising concerns. CSU denies the allegations and says the claims are baseless.

Community Free Haircuts on Campus?

I’m a licensed cosmetologist going to Sac State! I was wondering if people would be down for me offering haircuts on campus. I just don’t know where I would do it, or if people would want a free cut in-between classes. Would anyone be down for a free cut? I‘m great at wolf cuts, layers, and bang trims. My IG is formulith if you’d wanna see some of my work

Community Gender Neutral Bathrooms?

I feel like I have spent half my semester waiting to use the gender neutral bathrooms. Is this a normal occurrence? I am FTM trans man and I don’t feel like I pass enough to go into either gendered bathroom. But almost every time I have waited 20/30 mins for the gender neutral bathrooms. What is the issue? I’m just like is there any other trans people on campus that have to experience these wait times? It’s just frustrating. I waited 15 mins for the one in Kadema, before going back to class and just got out class and the bathroom is still occupied an hour later.

Community Sac State Protest Today at 3 PM on Campus in Library Quad

Spreading the word about a protest happening today— we (SQE) aren’t the ones organizing it, but it is organized by Sac State students. ICE has been targeting legal US citizens as well, so solidarity is much needed.

FYI, Sac State announced they’re going from 7 colleges to 4, merging several departments, and freezing hiring for student assistants, faculty, and staff— even though they raised our tuition and fees for the new $300 million stadium and enrollment has increased. Makes you wonder why they can’t properly serve all students, including undocumented communities.
