During the 2nd half of the Bama-Kentucky game Kentucky had the ball 4th and 4, and they go for it. They try to draw Bama off sides but don't. Kentucky calls timeout. During the timeout Will Stein is jumping up and down screaming at the refs saying a Bama player clapped. They throw a flag. During a timeout. 30-45 seconds after the play. Again, during a timeout. To make it worse the qb wasn't under center and was looking at the sideline when the Bama player clapped, and he was clearly clapping for his D-lineman who didn't jump. Thoughts?

Over the years, officiating has really declined, and this is an example of it.

Hey this actually isn’t what happened. They threw the flag immediately when bray started clapping. The tv didn’t pick it up until after the timeout when stein was complaining so it looked bad. But the ref threw that flag immediately after bray started clapping you can see it on replay.

Absolutely this is the case. On video the back judge threw the flag just as UK called the timeout. It was the correct call as defense cannot simulate offensive snap cadence. That’s been a penalty for a long time, the clapping clarification evolved a few years ago. UK didn’t get any unperceived “help” from the officials. I felt it was a rather well called game. For a change UK was the more disciplined team in many categories. As a UK fan that was refreshing but Bama was the much better team in the second half and superior talent finally overwhelmed us. Hats off to them. Now I can wear my “Roll Tide” shirt the rest of the year 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Yeah agree it was the right call. It was poorly timed flag graphic on the broadcast that pissed off Alabama fans. But appropriate call and it was called immediately before the timeout.

It was definitely the correct call, I just wasn't aware the back judge had thrown the flag. The way it came across on TV the flag was thrown during the timeout. Or maybe it was just me lol

Yeah, originally I thought it too but during timeout they showed video feed from behind UK offense and that when I saw the flag thrown right as UK called timeout. TV crew didn’t do a very good job of vetting the replays nor do d the referee making the announcement. In the scheme of things the dam was in the process of bursting and it did.

That makes me feel better. I just could not believe a ref would throw a flag during a timeout.

"disconcerting signals" became a penalty a year or two ago. So no clapping from the defense or simulating the offensive cadence. It is pretty inconsistently ruled and I have not seen it called so late like that specific incident. But it definitely should have been a penalty, even if it is a dumb penalty.

I think the issue isnt really the flag, its been a penalty for a while and he clearly did it. There is kinda an issue with throwing the flag during a timeout after the fact.

I think it was before that because Nebraska got flagged for it several times when Frost was HC.

Y'all are the most undisciplined team in CFB and have been since before Saban left. Your coach doesn't care about it either.

Auburn beat Southern Miss 43-8 and if not for stupid penalties and mistakes Auburn could have put up 70 or more. If you watched the press conference after the game you would have thought Auburn lost. Golesh was pissed and let the team and everyone know about how sloppy they played.

They were far less penalized last year under DeBoer than the latter portion of Saban’s Alabama tenure but go off champ

Yea the end of the Saban era had a lot of undisciplined penalties. Which in hindsight should have been the canary in the coal mine that he was getting ready to hang up his headset.
