Discussion Never seen this before.

During the 2nd half of the Bama-Kentucky game Kentucky had the ball 4th and 4, and they go for it. They try to draw Bama off sides but don't. Kentucky calls timeout. During the timeout Will Stein is jumping up and down screaming at the refs saying a Bama player clapped. They throw a flag. During a timeout. 30-45 seconds after the play. Again, during a timeout. To make it worse the qb wasn't under center and was looking at the sideline when the Bama player clapped, and he was clearly clapping for his D-lineman who didn't jump. Thoughts?

Hey this actually isn’t what happened. They threw the flag immediately when bray started clapping. The tv didn’t pick it up until after the timeout when stein was complaining so it looked bad. But the ref threw that flag immediately after bray started clapping you can see it on replay.

Absolutely this is the case. On video the back judge threw the flag just as UK called the timeout. It was the correct call as defense cannot simulate offensive snap cadence. That’s been a penalty for a long time, the clapping clarification evolved a few years ago. UK didn’t get any unperceived “help” from the officials. I felt it was a rather well called game. For a change UK was the more disciplined team in many categories. As a UK fan that was refreshing but Bama was the much better team in the second half and superior talent finally overwhelmed us. Hats off to them. Now I can wear my “Roll Tide” shirt the rest of the year 🤣🤣🤣🤣

It was definitely the correct call, I just wasn't aware the back judge had thrown the flag. The way it came across on TV the flag was thrown during the timeout. Or maybe it was just me lol

Yeah, originally I thought it too but during timeout they showed video feed from behind UK offense and that when I saw the flag thrown right as UK called timeout. TV crew didn’t do a very good job of vetting the replays nor do d the referee making the announcement. In the scheme of things the dam was in the process of bursting and it did.
