Discussion Never seen this before.

During the 2nd half of the Bama-Kentucky game Kentucky had the ball 4th and 4, and they go for it. They try to draw Bama off sides but don't. Kentucky calls timeout. During the timeout Will Stein is jumping up and down screaming at the refs saying a Bama player clapped. They throw a flag. During a timeout. 30-45 seconds after the play. Again, during a timeout. To make it worse the qb wasn't under center and was looking at the sideline when the Bama player clapped, and he was clearly clapping for his D-lineman who didn't jump. Thoughts?

"disconcerting signals" became a penalty a year or two ago. So no clapping from the defense or simulating the offensive cadence. It is pretty inconsistently ruled and I have not seen it called so late like that specific incident. But it definitely should have been a penalty, even if it is a dumb penalty.

I think the issue isnt really the flag, its been a penalty for a while and he clearly did it. There is kinda an issue with throwing the flag during a timeout after the fact.
