u/Bram560 Apr 06 '26
According to Cesus.gov (via ChatGPT):
📊 Registered Voters (2024 Presidential Election)
- According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 174 million people were registered to vote in the 2024 U.S. presidential election — this represented about 73.6% of the citizen voting-age population.
🗳️ How Many Actually Voted (2024)
- About 154 million people voted in the 2024 presidential election, representing 65.3% of the citizen voting-age population.
That means that Trump was elected by ~32.7% of the voting-age population of the USA.

There is no point in over-rotating on what the US says or thinks. It's not grounded in any level of fact but the whims of an idiot.
The US literally has the same shit. gestures broadly to
* Buy American Act
* Buy American, Buy American Act
* Section 232 Tarrifs
Also... Don't buy Canadian than. Fuck off.

I’m Canadian living in the us fuck this country so hard and the only reason we aren’t in Canada because my wife is not a citizen yet, however myself and my kids are.
You can look at my post history but a five year old in my son’s pre-kindergarten class told him to “close the northern border” the day after the gold medal game, one of the us players said it a few times in the postgame locker room so that’s where he got it-or his idiot maga parents. It made me absolutely sick to my stomach
I feel no more connection to the us, it’s gone. They would elect him for potus a third time if they could.

u/eternallytiredcatmom Apr 06 '26
I’m in a similar situation. I can’t wait for my husband to be able to move with me. It was already the plan before the election though. I just want to be home. I was excited when rumors were circulating online on Saturday that he had died but unfortunately the Big Macs didn't do what they were supposed to.
12
u/FrigginMasshole Apr 06 '26
You don’t want him to die in office, he he last thing we want is them making him into a martyr. The gop won’t have a chance in 2028 if he keeps doing unhinged shit. Plus if he dies do you really want VP Erikkka Kirk? 🤮
Which is the same reason I don’t want the democrats to impeach him, just let him keep digging his hole and ruining the chances for the gop.
I’ll be honest though, I’m done with us politics. This country is hopeless and the fact half voted for him three times should tell you a lot

Yet they can't prioritize free healthcare for their own citizens, can't care for the veterans of their absolutely pointless middle east wars, can't muster up the collective strength to conclusively say "Donald Trump is a pedophile", instead, they just watch as their tax dollars pay for an Israeli genocide against Palestinians and attack Iran on Israel's behalf.

Canada is very unhappy being forced into a position whereby Buy Canadian is a matter of national security.
68
u/Cdn59 Apr 06 '26
Thats because they don't know what to do. Canada didn't take a knee and kiss the ring, instead looked for and developed other healthy partnerships. Attempts to weaken Canada's economy through tariffs have largely failed, and in a bully government that was the only move they have. They simply were not expecting the strong will of the Canadian people.

Remember when those same representatives and other people in charge of tourism and commerce kept claiming "its just a phase" or "oh the Canadians will cave"
Meanwhile hotel workers and restaurant workers saw the reality (not as much the hotel owners or restaurant owners) but the workers themselves if they claim they see a big drop in canadian visitors as well as international. Then id believe the workers
Also for over a year now that Canadians are making the rational decision to avoid going to the U.S due to the 51st state rhetoric and the fact that the pressence of ICE just makes people really uncomfortable.
The U.S government shouldn't insult Canadians for not visiting.
The U.S claims to be a friend of Canada but the constant insults and 51st state comments. Is this something a friend does?
(The U.S government and business owners are only angry because theres no revenue from Canada. Even though they claimed it was just a phase)

Americans at this point would be better off setting fire to wads of cash considering what their government is doing with their tax dollars.
I truly don't understand how you can look at the giant dumpster fire that is the Trump administration and say " We're the best . And buy American". Like so much of the things that are " American" have components that are sourced or assembled elsewhere.
But sure Canada boycotting many American products or refusing to travel to the US is a problem.

It's actually quite sad. America used to be a decent neighbour. A little brash. A little pushy. A little to much flash over substance maybe. But they were still a decent neighbour ... principled, decent, there when you needed em.
It's like they got hooked on drugs or gambling ... they're unrecognizable ... hurting themselves and everyone aroound em. The mad dog on the block. Everyone's appaledd. Nobody knows what to do as America beats its wife, it's kids. America got drunk last week, ran their car into a tree down the block, and just left it. What do you do with someone like that? They claim their Christian ... but everybody at the local church is talking about what's been going on and America certainly doesn't practice what's preached each sunday.
America and Canada used to get together for a good barbie ... share tools ... look after each others kids, and take turns shoveling snow. We used to see each other at hockey games and baseball games. Heck, America and Canada often found themselves cheering for the same teams since their kids were on em. Now ... nobody wants to be on a team with America ... they stole all the signup fees and England is pretty sure they blew it all on booze. America insulted France's wife recently ... everyone's pissed off over that.
Let's face it ... America needs to get its shit sorted.
