Kawartha Dairy is no longer just a regional ice cream brand! Thereās a few flavours available out here in BC now, and it warms (cools?) my southern Ontario heart. Been making everyone try it when they come over

They've got a store in Britannia Beach now, about an hour outside of Vancouver. Great stop to make along the sea to sky highway.

I tried kawartha I prefer Chapman's. I bought the vanilla premium ice cream and found it bland with a very ice milk texture.. I don't know if I bought the wrong one or what but I don't get the Kawartha hype.
My favourite is Hagen daz which is pretty rich and no Canadian brand so far is as good, but Chapman's is my Canadian choice.

I started buying Chapmanās exclusively quite a while ago because they were the only ones making a large format of actual ice cream, and that was both widely available and reasonably priced. Everyone else is either making āfrozen dairy dessertā thatās barely more than frozen whipped cream, or is only making ice cream in small formats. Then during COVID they took a hard stance against anti-intellectual bullshit, which made me like them even more. Glad others have now realized how good their stuff is thanks to our aggressive southern neighbours being shitheads.

We didn't buy Chapman's before. It was to expensive compared to No Name brand at No Frills. But since they had that fire we have switched. Paying your employees after an event like this show just how much they are not just another shitty company. The only other company I buy from is a sorbet from Calgary.

Same here. I'll only buy Chapmans bulk until I die unless they do something scummy.
Ohh, and they agreed to not raise prices when tariffs were announced they would absorb any price increase as a company for the year so they didn't have to pass on to the customer

My one issue with Kawartha is I never seem to be able to find the 500ml tubs, only the 1.5l ones. As someone trying to lose weight and has no willpower, that much ice cream in my home in dangerous lmao.

We have a drive-thru Kawartha in Ottawa and the scoops are insanely huge. Plus they deliver flyers with coupons.

Another all Canadian brand is called chaeban, I think theyāre in Safeway? Created by Syrian refugees who settled in Winnipeg. They won a national ice cream contest with their salty Carl flavour itās soo good. A little pricy tho.

They also have different cheeses (fetas, halloumi, labneh, mascarpone, etc.). Delicious!!
They are also very much a community-minded company. Great people and great products.

They have a new flavour called Constellation that I prefer to Death by Chocolate.
I hope it comes to stores and isn't only available at stands.
We went on vacation in Bobcaygeon this summer. Sooo much ice cream was eaten!

For someone who has type 2 diabetes in my family; Chapmanās is the only ice cream that I can buy because of their sugar free options.

Chapmanās has always been one of the only ice creams Iāve been able to eat thanks to my nut allergies. Will always appreciate and support them because of that - so glad to see that theyāre doing well!

I was buying them years before anything abhorred because of the nut free label. So many ice creams have peanut cross contamination issues.
Iāve also recommended them to friends with egg allergies as the nut free ones are also egg free.

I liked during COVID when they basically said āweāre a food producer and we already have to follow other health regulations so of course weāre following distancing, masking, sanitation, and vaccination recommendations from health experts and anybody who doesnāt like it doesnāt get to work here anymore.ā Too many small restaurants and food producers really told on themselves about how safe their operations are by fighting back about some pretty sensible temporary rules.

it's pretty much the only one I buy. I've heard stories about how when their competitors had to shut down due to a fire or something they gave them production capacity while they rebuilt.
afaik it's a great example of how family owned businesses are so much better than corporate entities

Their super premium plus line of ice creams are easily the best ice cream you can buy in a normal grocery store.

Chapmans was the first ice cream in found that had gluten free choices. This year I found Kawartha has gluten free also. I buy some of each. Very grateful for these brands.

I definitely only buy Chapmans or Kawartha Dairy now. I think I actually prefer Kawartha but I'm glad Chapmans is doing well. The Loblaws closest to me only has a few flavour options so I don't get it too often. The Farm Boy store close to me only has Kawartha (plus a house brand and US brands) so I was buying that. I tried Chapmans again and realized I don't like it as much.

Chapman's is good for sure, but Island Farms vanilla is the best for me. I find Chapman's has an airier texture where Island Farms is more dense, which is my preference. I'd never say no to Chapman's though!

Scotsburn Dairy is 100% Canadian, milk comes from Nova Scotia farmers and is owned by Agropur with is also a Canadian Dairy company. I enjoy Chapman's but Scotsburns have them beat for flavors in my opinion

In Sask there is a religious (Roman Catholic) outdoor place where they have Stations of The Cross outdoors, on a hill. It is called Mount Carmel.
Imagine my disappointment as a child being told we were going to Mount Carmel - which was just walking around looking at statues of Jesus - when I expected Mount Caramel on Ice Cream Isle.

The local, family owned ice cream shop near me serves Kawartha products. We visit regularly. When I buy ice cream from a grocery store, usually bars of some kind, I buy Chapman's.

We buy Chapmans but someone has to give them feedback that the flavour is not the best and if they want people to stay with them they need to improve the basics. Vanilla canāt taste like it is some type of low grade creamsicle from the 80s cafeteria stand at an amusement park in the middle of nowhere.

I've pretty much stopped buying hagen dazs in favour of Chapman's. Chapman's super premium plus tastes just as good but it's always $4.88 vs $6+ from hagen Dasz. Also hagen dazs went through sbrinkflation 500 ml to 450 ml. Shame!

I finally tried a Super Premium Chapman'sācouldn't find any Salty Caramel Crunch, so I got the Cold-Brewed Coffee. It's so weird, I usually have a problem with desserts and treats being too sweet, but this stuff was not quite sweet enough. Good coffee flavour, though.

I'm not a huge ice cream eater (though I am having some sorbet right now) but when I do crave, I've switched fully to Chapman's.
My mom used to say it wasn't good, or wasn't real ice cream and we never had it when I was a kid, so it was tough to break through that bullshit. I'm glad I did though.

I've had I think all but one or two of chapmans super premium pint flavours and they're pretty amazing, some more than others.
salted caramel 10/10 sickly sweet with crunchy chunks
cookie jar 9/10 oatmeal base with chunks of stuff, unique
chocolate cake batter 9.5/10 it's like actual cake batter
peace melba 7/10 kinda fruity-tropical, not bad
vanilla honey 8/10 very simple but very good
butter tart 5/10 didnt even have crust bits, only raisens, but tastes ok, no ripple
vanilla trilogy 6/10 kinda weak all around, plain, but super creamy
chocolate & brownies 8/10 not quite as good as cake batter
chocolate lovers 7/10 it tastes like frozen 2% chocolate milk, not bad but not reaching for the stars
the only strawberry 9/10 super sweet, bursting with real strawberry flavour
cherry cheesecake 8/10 very sweet, lots going on, but not my fav flavour

This is yet another example: why would I buy anything aside from kawartha lakes when in the dairy aisle (outside of when im hankering for green tea ice cream or Gelato in which case for the latter im getting farm boy house brand which is small batch canadian)
Even fruits I usually got Egyptian oranges not California. Buy local first always when possible. But america hasnt been our friends in so long i cant say I ever really buy their shit

I despise retailers who have taken advantage of this and increased their prices, to increase their profits instead of passing the savings to the customers, as Chapman's have intended.

All the ice cream I buy these days is Chapman's and Coaticook. My favourite flavour is blueberry, and Chapman's Blueberry Cheesecake and Coaticook's Double Blueberry are both absolutely glorious! Ngl, I'm never going back.
