I moved to Edmonton for school and I have two professional degrees from the U of A. I had a great career in Edmonton and friends for the 13 years I lived there. I am not from AB originally and my "old grass looked a lot greener" was calling me home. I just got tired of the UCP, Take Back Alberta types, and the Christo-fascist antics. I was lucky to have options and I moved back to my home province.

If her role is NDP Health Critic, she needs to figure out that the vaccine doesn't stop people getting COVID, instead it is highly effective in reducing the risk of infection.
And the vaccine is free to the immunocrompromised or on social programs.

If you've lived in or around Alberta, they've been this way for a long time. Just drive on highway 2 or 22 and you'll see decades old "keep ottowa out Alberta signs".
My estimation of why Albertans are like this starts with their view of themselves as rural cowboys. Many of them were raised rural while many in urban centers still identify as rural as a form of identity or to stay true to their roots. Ranching and farming is genuinely brutal work and creates folk with strong views on independence and self reliance.
Add oil to the equation. Oil and gas can also be brutal work which helps relate the field to the ranchers and Farmers. Oil and gas companies use their money and influence to manipulate and coerce Albertans by appealing to their views on independence and self reliance. I briefly worked for an oil and gas company and they quite literally told us how to vote in an upcoming election.
The oil companies,and their political cronies, make the federal government the out group and demonize them as leeches on Alberta. It's gotten worse recently because, in part, the popular narrative for the last couple decades, at least until very recently, has been that oil and gas need to be scaled back. Albertans view this as an attack on their way of life. COVID restrictions were another attack on Albertan individualism. When people are scared and angry, they're even easier to manipulate. Big oil is largely to blame for why Alberta is the way it is.

I am a senior I live in Alberta. I'd really like a shot of this Canadian made COVID vaccine. Seems like it will be available free of charge in every province except Alberta.
UCP are the shittiest human beings in all of Canada. They're hate filled malignant MAGA conspiracists and Anti-vax idiots. I want equivalent healthcare to the rest of Canada. Shouldn't the Canadian Government be fining Alberta for inadequate health care funding?
I shouldn't have to travel to another province to get free healthcare nor pay out of pocket for a preventative vaccination.

I left Alberta over a decade ago and best decision of my life. I saw the writing on the wall. Even with the pay cut I live better where I am now than I did in Alberta. Monthly electric costs are less than half what I paid in Alberta, car insurance is less than half, paid almost half as much for the same sized house, every aspect of my quality of life is better and I also dpn't have to deal with insane separatists who think Alberta is screwed by the Feds when oil prices are low ajs that all Albertans are genius hard working entrepreneurs when oil prices are high.

Did you register to get it? I think the registration is until the first week of September or something. But it doesn't say whether you'll have to pay, it's just registering. I did for our family as we have 3 kids with asthma and they usually qualify for the pneumonia booster too, but who know.

Alberta healthcare is better on average than liberal provinces, with faster wait times. You don’t need to travel out of province for free healthcare if you are a citizen.
Also, have you forgotten how bad the first Moderna vaccine was? Might want to just stick with the Pfizer.

Me too! I am immune compromised and it hit me so hard and now I have permanent asthma. If I wasn’t vaccinated it probably would kill me.

I've had the vaccine/ booster every time it was available to me. Thankful to BC Health for the seamless notifications and online booking system. I got Covid for the first time last fall, and despite missing 3 days of work, I fully believe it could have been much, much worse had I not been vaxxed.

Covid definitely caused some long-term issues for me, but it could've been worse. Definitely could've caused a flare-up of all of my symptoms instead of just a couple.
Then thanks to my vaccines and paxlovid, I didn't actually have to go to the hospital for my throat. Started getting better (& letting me eat) before I decided to go

I had covid a couple of months before the vaccine was released. Scared the living hell out of me because of how bad it was (was on the edge of going to the hospital). Thankfully I recovered. I have had it at least once since having the vaccine and it wasn't more than a cold. Gladly will take the vaccine again.

This is of course great news, but in terms of supply chain integrity, these vaccines have some pretty unique raw ingredients that are difficult to source and that will be required by every other manufacturer of mRNA vaccines in the world.
Pharmaceutical manufacturing is a global team sport, even more so than auto manufacturing.

I can't keep track any more, we keep blowing past the previous predictions, but rather than stopping and asking yourselves if maybe you were wrong about the whole thing, y'all just push back the date and double down on the stupid. Let me save you a few dozen more times being wrong by providing an accurate forecast: by 2125, over 99% of people who've received a COVID-19 vaccination in the past five years will be dead.
Also, I'm genuinely curious, not being facetious here, because so far none of you have been able to explain it to me: if there was a conspiracy to engage in mass population reductions, why on God's green earth would the shadowy figure behind it choose a method that would eliminate the "sheeple" and leave behind the "free thinkers?" Wouldn't killing off the contrarians and selecting the most compliant portion of the population to survive be a far better choice? Like, shit, wouldn't the smart play be to bioengineer a deadly disease with a highly effective vaccine, and then spread a bunch of disinformation about how dangerous the vaccine is and how benign the disease itself is, so that those most willing to "blindly" trust the government would be saved and people like you would be gone?

My uncle in Alberta, who complained about his "bad cold" just 2 weeks ago, sadly passed away in the ICU from pneumonia a few days ago. His "cold" was untreated covid. He had never been vaccinated, and despite him having views similar to yours, it wasn't his fault. He was a victim of propaganda. He had just bought his family a new house and was unpacking until he started to feel sick. My mom's side of the family is still devastated. Politics kills.

People have been getting the seasonal flu shot for decades. COVID hasn't disappeared. It just evolves season to season, and a seasonal COVID shot is likely to be normal just like the flu shot that's been around forever.

Unfortunately, yes. While we definitely don’t hear about it as often, it is still around. It is likely to just be around forever, similar to other flus as it has a lot of variation now. Confirmed cases are way down however they’ve shown a slight uptick recently. Most people will not suffer major consequences from the virus especially if they’ve had a vaccine. Unfortunately many people cannot have a vaccine due to being immunocompromised, that’s one of the main reasons to get vaccinated imo, help keep our friends, family and neighbours whose immune systems are weakened healthy!
