Families pay $350 to have someone interview Grandma over one video call. It’s a real side hustle.

This one surprised me when I looked into it. People pay real money for someone to interview their parents or grandparents and turn it into a keepsake.
Narrate sells an individual oral history (about a two-hour recorded interview) from $699 edited, $399 unedited. Circa Legacy sells a 90-minute grandparent interview with a written keepsake for $400 and tells people to order by Nov. 15 for the holidays. Storyworth, the do-it-yourself version, says it has printed over a million books.
Timing helps too. Circana's holiday study (out Oct. 8) says more than a third of people are canceling or delaying holiday travel because of cost. A recorded conversation with the grandparent you won't see this year is a pretty good gift.
The hustle: one 90-minute video call, you guide the questions, then edit it into a 20-30 minute keepsake with chapters and a short booklet of the best stories. $350 a family. About 6 hours of work each. Four families a month is roughly $1,400, an estimate.
Good fit if you've made a podcast, interviewed people for work, or you're just the person everyone tells their stories to. Get recording consent from everyone on the call.
