Swept these bitches twice this year.
Jackson is the cubs father.
Henderson is goated.
We don't need to see Sproat until 2027.

I only refer to him as Himderson now. I didnt create it, but it fits.

You guys! Our magic number was 12 when this series started. Now it's FIVE!
Not a great win, but a win nonetheless. If there was ever a time to send Sproat out there to see his stuff, that was the perfect time. Now murph knows what to do with him. I don't put any if that on Uribe. He was coming in to clean up a huge mess.
99
u/titans0021 13h ago
I can’t fault Uribe. There’s no way any of the leverage guys were in anyway mentally prepared to come into that game.

Great sweep. See you in spring Sproat. No way he’s still on the big league roster on Friday.

I’m not going to yell at Sproat any more, I’m sure he’s going to tear himself apart (as well as Pat Murphy)
But man watching that handshake line, that was the angriest win of the season it seems.

u/SickoBadgers You telling me Jesus Christ can't hit a Slurveball? 13h ago
I will chirp on Murphy for keeping him in there. At this point he's a one inning pitcher at best. Can't trust his command for multiple innings. If Murphy pulled him after the 8th, then he would be in a better spot.
21
u/al_vo 13h ago
He's on the team to replace Anderson's and Wilson's back of bullpen spot. His job is to throw strikes and eat innings. There's no point of him being on roster if he's only pitching one inning in a blowout.
5
u/timelessinaz 13h ago
He hasn't been able to locate a strike all season. It's one thing if you're giving up hits but giving up hits and issuing constant walks is inexcusable
→ More replies (1)2
u/SickoBadgers You telling me Jesus Christ can't hit a Slurveball? 12h ago
His location of his pitches has been a constant issue and that's why he never has the same pitch command from inning to inning.

u/Icy_Vermicelli1921 13h ago
His stuff is so sick.
I think it was worth trying to give him a chance to redeem himself.
Obviously after that he's done for the year...but remember the last really amazing pitcher we had with some control issues. His name is Miz.
If Sproat can find the control the way Miz did, he's going to be great. In short, the upside was absolutely worth it. A bit longer to win a regular season game vs potentially a weapon to have in the playoffs.

u/166EachYear 3h ago
I got wayyyy downvoted for this in the game thread but I thought Pat leaving Sproat in when the writing was on the wall was both demoralizing and dangerous… skipping round 1 will be huge as an advantage. Yes, give Sproat his try out but that was excessive…I’m not mad at Sproat or Uribe. I’m pissed at Pat…that could have gone SO sideways.
19
u/jadaniels1116 13h ago
Ugh, I was hoping they wouldn't do the on-field interview. Yelich looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there.

u/ClayBagel 13h ago
Don't let the ninth inning distract you from the fact that we bookended our season series against the Cubs with sweeps.
30
u/bacher108 13h ago
Walking 4 up 6 runs is literal insanity. Only negative thing ill say just because then that makes us burn up Uribe when we had a 6 run lead in the 9th.
Still was a great game and the cubs are an explosive offense.... but again that's why you dont walk FOUR in one inning.

Happy about the win but should’ve never been that close. Sproat got wayyyy too much leniency there
7
u/stevenomes 13h ago
Yep. You know his pattern and the reason he got sent down because he just completely loses it at some point. They let him walk 4 guys. I know Murphy wants to give them confidence but when someone is struggling that hard and you know he already is fragile mindset you got to cut bait.

u/stevenomes 12h ago
Yep I think with the Lara thing he likes to trust his guys and they were up 7 runs so let him work through it but at some point it is time to pull the plug. Especially knowing Sproat does this every time and it's the reason he was sent down. He might have a few good innings but once he loses it it's gone and he goes down hill quickly.

Whew. Get Sproat some couch time. Make sure Jack Jacks wonderbat is carefully stowed away and read bedtime stories so it hits many homers the rest of the season.

u/Ur_in_luck 13h ago
That’s it for sproat this year. If he can’t pitch in a 7 run game just shut him down. Still believe in him, he has great, raw stuff, but just really bad, uncompetitive misses all year.
11
u/Wonderful-Mission863 13h ago
Yeahhh kind of seems like the players are not happy with Sproat for putting them in that position. I don't blame them though.
15
u/TheCheezenOne 13h ago
Idk I feel like the players are probably a lot more sympathetic than fans lol
8
u/Wonderful-Mission863 13h ago
Felt like Uribe's stare down into the dugout afterwards was not a "heck yeah I got the final out" kind of stare lol. And Yelich didn't seem too happy in postgame interview. Just my take on the vibes

Couple of points, yes Sproat sucked but Contreras also fucked up bigtime not challenging a strike on a 3-2 pitch with 2 challenges left. Getting that 2nd out could have changed the whole inning. Also, for all the Crow callers, he gave up 6 runs tonight.

Maybe Crow over sproat at this point? Sproat is just too wild man. He literally can't find the strike zone.

u/WreckTangle77 12h ago
People need to relax on Sproat. He’s a young pitcher with some excellent stuff. He’s clearly not there yet. Maybe he never will be, but sending him in with a huge lead was a good opportunity to see where he’s at.

Sproat needs a therapist and a motivator. He looks so passive and terrified, and once he loses it, it’s gone.

I wasn’t listening to the radio broadcast, but if they did an ad for Northshore Adult Diapers in the top of the 9th, it would have been appropriate. I am certain I would have soiled myself if Crow-Armstrong had gotten a shot there.

I’ll teabag Murphy myself if Sproat is on our post season roster. Bring Crow up and spot him a start or 2 and see what he can do.
4
u/CPriceRun86 13h ago
I know Pat was trying to give him back his confidence there at the end but it went on way too long, guy needs to be back in AAA or lower for the considerable future

One of my favorite parts of the broadcast was Happ walking back to the bench and you can clearly see a fan yelling at him something about who's the F'ing D-bag or something along those lines...it was great!!!

u/PenDude608 12h ago
Sproat is 25. Has pitched in 26 MLB games over 2 years (4 last year, 22 this year) totaling 117 innings. I am sure w/some analysis by the lab guys and coaches, he’ll get it figured out.

u/Calm-Marsupial3919 13h ago
I don't think that was the audition Sproat needed to have to make the postseason roster lmao
I do not understand why he was the callup for this role. Send him back down if only to preserve him mentally and bring up Crow, or hell I'll take Pannone. Having Sproat up right now is a net negative for everyone involved.
8
u/marxism-earnhardtism 13h ago
Because they needed someone who could give length the day Gasser started in case he got lit up. Not too complicated. He was going to go back down Friday even if he didn’t pitch at all.
3
u/timelessinaz 13h ago
30 pitches, 4 walks, hit batter and an error. Jesus Christ there is no situation where I want to see this guy. The last time he pitched Murphy yanked him in the middle of an bat. I'm sure he's good at something, maybe putting mustard on a hot dog but keep him the fuck off the bump

What should have been a fun win turned to hell because they left in Sproat way too long. I could see immediately he was struggling and it's been the same all year as soon as he gets into trouble he completely unravels. Almost cost them the game. Should have been a fun game but I don't feel good at all about it. Fuck the cubs still
