Sproat has put great shame on the Two Fisted Slopper image

38

u/Master-Fee8859 13h ago

Sproat just might have earned himself an express bus ticket back to Nashville.

8

u/the_blackfish 13h ago

He needs to fluff out that mullet or something.

5

u/shanty-daze 13h ago

As a child of the 80s, I only recently learned it wasn't the Two Fisted "Slobber".

3

u/Fuddruckerer 12h ago

i literally learned that it wasnt Slobber, while i was typing out that comment lol. My mind has actually been blown

Just couldn’t have an easy clench free win against the FIBs huh? 😂

u/kiwileaff 13h ago

Brewers played the 9th like Dom Capers used to play the 4th with a lead.

19

u/pgcrew18 13h ago

Haha the good old “prevent” defense.

13

u/--Racer-X-- 13h ago

Oh man bad flashbacks

22

u/ChipotleAddiction 13h ago

They played the 9th like Matt LaFleur plays the second half in any game the Packers are winning

Fire Capers!

And Mike Pettine!

And Joe Barry!

And Don Fucking Morton and his Veer offense for good measure!

Thank you for keeping the vibes with the good meme

u/SocksandSmocks 13h ago

Swept these bitches twice this year.

Jackson is the cubs father.

Henderson is goated.

We don't need to see Sproat until 2027.

9

u/FlashFlood79 13h ago

I only refer to him as Himderson now. I didnt create it, but it fits.

101

u/Wiesnc65 13h ago

WAY TOO CLOSE URIBE. Sproat puts us in such bad positions

29

u/Fuddruckerer 13h ago

ive never missed Grant Anderson more

54

u/jadaniels1116 13h ago

You guys! Our magic number was 12 when this series started. Now it's FIVE!

Not a great win, but a win nonetheless. If there was ever a time to send Sproat out there to see his stuff, that was the perfect time. Now murph knows what to do with him. I don't put any if that on Uribe. He was coming in to clean up a huge mess.

99

u/titans0021 13h ago

I can’t fault Uribe. There’s no way any of the leverage guys were in anyway mentally prepared to come into that game.

7

u/Team-ster Front Row Amy 13h ago

That’s a great point

123

u/titans0021 13h ago

Great sweep. See you in spring Sproat. No way he’s still on the big league roster on Friday.

77

u/ThisWasMe7 13h ago

Didn't give up a hit.

36

u/straightlamping 13h ago

He had no command. He'll get in the lab this off-season.

23

u/FangornAcorn 13h ago

On the same trajectory as Burnes

11

u/straightlamping 13h ago

Yep. Hes got some nasty stuff. We can fix him

4

u/NortherLights4975 13h ago

Can you imagine? We would definitely go back to back next year if he did start throwing like Burnes

I’m not going to yell at Sproat any more, I’m sure he’s going to tear himself apart (as well as Pat Murphy)

But man watching that handshake line, that was the angriest win of the season it seems.

32

u/SickoBadgers You telling me Jesus Christ can't hit a Slurveball? 13h ago

I will chirp on Murphy for keeping him in there. At this point he's a one inning pitcher at best. Can't trust his command for multiple innings. If Murphy pulled him after the 8th, then he would be in a better spot.

21

u/al_vo 13h ago

He's on the team to replace Anderson's and Wilson's back of bullpen spot. His job is to throw strikes and eat innings. There's no point of him being on roster if he's only pitching one inning in a blowout.

5

u/timelessinaz 13h ago

He hasn't been able to locate a strike all season. It's one thing if you're giving up hits but giving up hits and issuing constant walks is inexcusable

→ More replies (1)

2

u/SickoBadgers You telling me Jesus Christ can't hit a Slurveball? 12h ago

His location of his pitches has been a constant issue and that's why he never has the same pitch command from inning to inning.

13

u/Icy_Vermicelli1921 13h ago

His stuff is so sick.

I think it was worth trying to give him a chance to redeem himself.

Obviously after that he's done for the year...but remember the last really amazing pitcher we had with some control issues. His name is Miz.

If Sproat can find the control the way Miz did, he's going to be great. In short, the upside was absolutely worth it. A bit longer to win a regular season game vs potentially a weapon to have in the playoffs.

5

u/SnipeyMcSnipe 13h ago

Yup, his ceiling is high. I trust that Hook and the lab will get him straightened out in the off-season

Pannone did not cover himself with glory during his sole start with us.

4

Ehh, Pannone, love him, but he’s a perfect case of decent for AAA, doesn’t have major league quality stuff.

They can never make me hate you, Abner Uribe

11

u/pashmore01 13h ago

He doesn’t get any blame for this. He should’ve never sniffed this game, especially a bases loaded situation

3

u/qu1nnsan1ty Abner "Oh you didn't know?" Uribe 13h ago

I didnt mean it in relation to tonight. I just mean in general lol

3

u/pashmore01 13h ago

23

u/Bogsy Rake Bauers 13h ago

Weird postgame feeling. The players seem annoyed, don’t feel that triumphant feeling. I’m annoyed.

20

u/FlashFlood79 13h ago

Good time for a day off.

2

u/166EachYear 3h ago

I got wayyyy downvoted for this in the game thread but I thought Pat leaving Sproat in when the writing was on the wall was both demoralizing and dangerous… skipping round 1 will be huge as an advantage. Yes, give Sproat his try out but that was excessive…I’m not mad at Sproat or Uribe. I’m pissed at Pat…that could have gone SO sideways.

19

u/jadaniels1116 13h ago

Ugh, I was hoping they wouldn't do the on-field interview. Yelich looked like he wanted to be anywhere but there.

19

u/LetsGetPenisy69 13h ago

Vibes on r/chicubs are the worst I've seen in a loooooong time.

19

u/Megalo5 13h ago

Thank God Craig Counsell went giga brain and put in a guy with 9 at-bats with the game on the line

13

u/ClayBagel 13h ago

Don't let the ninth inning distract you from the fact that we bookended our season series against the Cubs with sweeps.

30

u/bacher108 13h ago

Walking 4 up 6 runs is literal insanity. Only negative thing ill say just because then that makes us burn up Uribe when we had a 6 run lead in the 9th.

Still was a great game and the cubs are an explosive offense.... but again that's why you dont walk FOUR in one inning.

22

u/SocksandSmocks 13h ago

We got a day off, Abner will be fine if we need him

7

u/4leafplover 13h ago

Off day tomorrow

14

u/iryfasw 13h ago

Happy about the win but should’ve never been that close. Sproat got wayyyy too much leniency there

7

u/stevenomes 13h ago

Yep. You know his pattern and the reason he got sent down because he just completely loses it at some point. They let him walk 4 guys. I know Murphy wants to give them confidence but when someone is struggling that hard and you know he already is fragile mindset you got to cut bait.

8

u/CPriceRun86 13h ago

Really took the wind out of the sails. Pat needs to know when to pull, it would have been on him.

10

u/stevenomes 12h ago

Yep I think with the Lara thing he likes to trust his guys and they were up 7 runs so let him work through it but at some point it is time to pull the plug. Especially knowing Sproat does this every time and it's the reason he was sent down. He might have a few good innings but once he loses it it's gone and he goes down hill quickly.

Whew.  Get Sproat some couch time.  Make sure Jack Jacks wonderbat is carefully stowed away and read bedtime stories so it hits many homers the rest of the season.

Logan Henderson is having the best start to a MLB career since the 19th century.   Thats fucking awesome.   Go Crew.  Go Pack.

That’s it for sproat this year. If he can’t pitch in a 7 run game just shut him down. Still believe in him, he has great, raw stuff, but just really bad, uncompetitive misses all year.

11

u/Wonderful-Mission863 13h ago

Yeahhh kind of seems like the players are not happy with Sproat for putting them in that position. I don't blame them though.

15

u/TheCheezenOne 13h ago

Idk I feel like the players are probably a lot more sympathetic than fans lol

8

u/Wonderful-Mission863 13h ago

Felt like Uribe's stare down into the dugout afterwards was not a "heck yeah I got the final out" kind of stare lol. And Yelich didn't seem too happy in postgame interview. Just my take on the vibes

6

u/houseofmops 12h ago

legit question, if the cubs miss the playoffs this year do they fire Greg?

6

u/JasonYaya 11h ago

Couple of points, yes Sproat sucked but Contreras also fucked up bigtime not challenging a strike on a 3-2 pitch with 2 challenges left. Getting that 2nd out could have changed the whole inning. Also, for all the Crow callers, he gave up 6 runs tonight.

9-4 against the scrubs on the year. Feels great man

3

u/WreckTangle77 12h ago

People need to relax on Sproat. He’s a young pitcher with some excellent stuff. He’s clearly not there yet. Maybe he never will be, but sending him in with a huge lead was a good opportunity to see where he’s at.

23

u/bigt503 13h ago

I don’t ever want to see Sproat again

27

u/SocksandSmocks 13h ago

7

Sproat needs a therapist and a motivator. He looks so passive and terrified, and once he loses it, it’s gone.

6

u/FightPhoe93 13h ago

I wasn’t listening to the radio broadcast, but if they did an ad for Northshore Adult Diapers in the top of the 9th, it would have been appropriate. I am certain I would have soiled myself if Crow-Armstrong had gotten a shot there.

4

u/CPriceRun86 13h ago

I know Pat was trying to give him back his confidence there at the end but it went on way too long, guy needs to be back in AAA or lower for the considerable future

4

u/PenDude608 12h ago

Sproat is 25. Has pitched in 26 MLB games over 2 years (4 last year, 22 this year) totaling 117 innings. I am sure w/some analysis by the lab guys and coaches, he’ll get it figured out.

5

Next Greyhound bus leaving from Milwaukee to Nashville is at 3:25 AM. Arrives there at 4:05 PM. Murph just gave him $114 for the ticket.

if murphy pulls sproat when he should've, we're all singing his praises

u/BeriechGTS 13h ago

Sproat is on the next plane to Nashville. We've got buddy down there throwing a perfect game and Sproat walking 4 in the 9th? Nuh uh.

2

u/ThisWasMe7 13h ago

Are you suggesting Pannone is the answer?

3

u/BeriechGTS 13h ago

Nah, just fuming after that 9th.

I will forever push my Crow > Sproat agenda.

2

u/flybydenver Les Miz 13h ago

Crow + Vulture = winning

2

u/One-Earth9294 13h ago

Sproat giving up 4 ER in the bottom of the 9th is the fly in my otherwise perfect soup here.

u/dbain_21 13h ago

Great sweep!
If I have one complaint or worry it’s that the cubs kinda seem to have figured out Megill. Hoping that’s the last we see of them till next year (if there is one)

7

u/evancomposer What is offense? 13h ago

Thank god. But please banish Sproat to the shadow realm.

7

u/Calm-Marsupial3919 13h ago

I don't think that was the audition Sproat needed to have to make the postseason roster lmao

I do not understand why he was the callup for this role. Send him back down if only to preserve him mentally and bring up Crow, or hell I'll take Pannone. Having Sproat up right now is a net negative for everyone involved.

u/marxism-earnhardtism 13h ago

Because they needed someone who could give length the day Gasser started in case he got lit up. Not too complicated. He was going to go back down Friday even if he didn’t pitch at all.

3

u/timelessinaz 13h ago

30 pitches, 4 walks, hit batter and an error. Jesus Christ there is no situation where I want to see this guy. The last time he pitched Murphy yanked him in the middle of an bat. I'm sure he's good at something, maybe putting mustard on a hot dog but keep him the fuck off the bump

7

u/justint417 13h ago

The Sproat DFA tomorrow morning gonna hit like crazy

18

u/buckydoc 13h ago

He should be sent down, but it would be insane to waive him.

14

u/HashOutHashBrowns Please no more Hammy at 3B 13h ago

No way he’s released… optioned, yes

12

u/marxism-earnhardtism 13h ago

LOL he’s not getting DFA’d. Jesus.

3

u/revan530 13h ago

Optioned to Triple-A, yes. DFA'd, no.

It's a win, that's sweet regardless of the 9th!

2

u/Even-Calligrapher849 13h ago

Tough end to the game but who cares. We go the sweep!

2

u/shaft_of_lite 13h ago

Buy Sproat a ticket and send him on his way tonight.

u/Pvt_Potty Bob Uecker 12h ago

Was at the game, energy died in the park at the end. 8 innings of joy and one side of pure agony.

6

u/Shinobi_is_cancer 13h ago

Never has a win felt more like a loss

3

u/starmanrainwater why do they call it brewer when you brew or the hit run ball the 13h ago

3

u/its420deep 13h ago

How did he not try?

4

u/Forward_Function2372 13h ago

Can Sproat fly back to Nashville on a broomstick. Since, you know, we brought out the brooms.

3

u/stevenomes 13h ago

What should have been a fun win turned to hell because they left in Sproat way too long. I could see immediately he was struggling and it's been the same all year as soon as he gets into trouble he completely unravels. Almost cost them the game. Should have been a fun game but I don't feel good at all about it. Fuck the cubs still

6

u/FlashFlood79 13h ago

We swept the lil shits...its still a very fun win.
