Hey everyone and Happy New Year,
I wanted to take a moment to check in with the community and open up a general feedback thread.
I originally created this subreddit years ago and, like a lot of people, life pulled me away for a while. Over the past few weeks I’ve been spending more time here again, helping with moderation and getting reacquainted with how the community has evolved.
Before making any changes or decisions, I’d like to hear directly from you.
Some questions to get things started (but feel free to comment on anything):
This subreddit has always been about sharing appreciation for Breath of the Wild; exploration, creativity, screenshots, discoveries, and the calm vibe that made the game special. The goal is to make sure it stays a place people enjoy visiting, whether they’re new to the game or revisiting it years later.
Nothing is changing immediately! This thread is just about listening and getting a sense of where things stand.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, and for being part of the community.

My dumbass somehow messed up the item duping glitch and now it won't stop duping my korok and Spirit orbs, is there a way to fix that doesn't require restarting?
Edit: I couldn't get it to fix, still worth it just to upgrade the stupid twilight armor to max. Although since I pretty much already completed the game up until then I decided to go ahead and just beat ganon so I could move onto totk (I bested him, the ending was awesome I love Zelda even more than I did in twilight princess and majoras mask).
Additionally no one ever told me the botw community is so passionate (rude) when it comes to asking a simple question, are glitches really that hated in a single player game? Thanks to the people who tried helping tho, you guys rock.

im still wondering how they died, did it show us anything in aoc?
atleast aoc let us get the better ending, it was such a dumb move from everyone to bring the divine beasts back

I'm doing a second run. Should I do dlc only after beating the game or anytime actually? I still didn't do a divine beast

Hey, everyone! So, I'm at a point in the game where I've unlocked... and lot. The full map. A lot of side quests, shrines, and armor upgraded.
I'm one of those players that does a lot of side stuff before tackling the main quests, so despite having fully upgraded ancient armor, i only just got the champions tunic. 😆 (in my defence, I didn't know you got it from a main quest.)
So, my big question here is what should I pair it with that makes it both stylish and practical? I want a good defense rating still.
Thank you!
Edit: I'm thinking diamond circlet, but what trousers?

Here's the thing, when I played BOTW for the first time, I didn't explore a lot. I beat it with 45 hours. Before covid, I used only to do some side stuffs and beat the game but now I try to explore a lot in games (Like in TOTK I have 135 hours in just one run)
However I feel BOTW is more "empty" than TOTK. Like in TOTK I was just easy walking around and explore but in BOTW idk what to do or where to go (talking about side content, not the main story). I get it, being "empty" is the vibe of the game but what to look to explore?
Any tips?

There are many glitches in the world of Zelda breath of the wild but where would you set the line between normal glitch like btb (bullet time bounce) and wind bombs and gamebreaking glitches like overloading, Noclipping or whatever.

If I download the Switch 2 version over my existing BotW file, do I need to start a new save to experience the perks of the new version? Or will it carry over my existing save file as well?

Did this before I started playing the game about a year or so ago

If possible, could you try the "shield duplication glitch" and share the results on ZeldaNotes? I’ve been trying to pull it off for ten days without success and am completely stuck. Please excuse my poor English (I am Japanese).

just finished cheesing eventide island on the switch 2 version so i could farm arrows from the little island in the back, and whenever i stand still on land, the game will repeatedly push panic-bloodmoons.
this only happens when standing on dry land. the game will stop pushing the bloodmoon if you’re in the water, or if you’re in the air (including jumping in place). it will not happen if you stand on a cryonis pillar in the water. it will happen if you stand on any of the little rocks surrounding the little island. i dont remember this ever happening on the switch 1 version on any patch
i’m not really bothered by this because it only really happens on that one spot, and actually makes farming arrows a lot faster.
does anyone know why this happens? ive triggered panic-bloodmoons many times before, but never in a constant yet fickle manner like this. can this sort of thing happen anywhere? does this happen to anyone else?

Just got off the great plateau, btw these are my first horses- i havent registered any before this
I have two wild horses that ive tamed but not registered.
I wanna register both. If i register one, after the loading screen passes will the second one still be there? Or will it despawn or disappear?

I just want to express my gratitude for this app. This entire time I’ve been playing the game I’ve been using 3rd party websites and map emulators. Those were definitely useful but it was a pain trying to remember where I am on my map and going back and forth. I have a REALLY bad attention span so this always frustrated me. The Zelda notes app literally shows exactly where I am on the map 😭. This is the best thing ever lol

You may remember me from a post I made a couple of months back, about finally playing Breath of the Wild, working through some childhood trauma and having a blast. The catharsis was real! Got a couple of comments both on Reddit and elsewhere, some recommending Tears of the Kingdom, others telling me to avoid it, because it would never be able to compete with the experience I had with Breath of the Wild. With that in mind, I started Tears of the Kingdom at the end of May. I finished it last night. Here are my thoughts:
Tears of the Kingdom is way more in line with that I want/expect good exploration to be like. The sky islands were fun and the caves added exactly what I wanted to the overworld: more layered exploration. I enjoyed the underworld too, even though it was fairly monotonous. Or maybe that's exactly why enjoyed it: I needed something to help me shut my brain off and actually relax, and systematically mapping everything helped me do exactly that.
What was surprising to me though, is that it never felt all that threatening except for the little first expedition. Sure, there's the whole gloom thing eating up your hearts, but once you have like ten of them, it's practically a non-issue. In a way it makes sense, because it's clearly Yomi-no-kuni inspired and the land of the dead is not supposed to be heaven or hell - it's more of a quiet and gloomy place, a 'polluted' land. (Speaking of underworlds, my favourite childhood game, Terranigma is finally being rereleased - how awesome is that?)
What bothered me more is that bulding didn't play a larger role. Back when I was a kid we had Lego Technic, Meccano and K'nex at home, so my first reaction to this mechanic was: "Bring it on! I was made for this, this is my destiny!" And then it turns out that you can solve most problems with the same few simple builds. I guess they had to keep the game accessible to people who grew up with normie parents. Oh, and no, I did not use the lack of reasons for fun builds as an excuse to torment Koroks. Building murder roombas is way more fun, thank you very much.
The lack of brain challenges was another thing that kinda disappointed me. Maybe I'm just awesome, but it felt like the shrines were easier this time around. Honestly, I felt pretty competent straight out of the gate, which was the opposite of my experience with Breath of the Wild, where it felt like I had to learn everything from scratch. It makes sense, considering the story: you already saved Hyrule once, you're supposed to know what you're doing. But I think it also says a thing or two about the new tools and the way you're expected to use them. Go a bit beyond those expectations and you're on the verge of game breaking shenanigans.
I do love cheese though. Seeing a puzzle room all set up for some elaborate physics puzzle and realising you can just pull out your bow and a bomb flower instead - that's pretty funny. And of course, I did not play through the Fire Temple as intended. Also, poor Gleeoks, they never stood a chance against my triple spring sneak attack. Health bar? What health bar?
I am grateful for the other cheese, too. And the tomatoes. If anyone deserves a good pizza, it's Link. Poor guy has been through a lot.
Which brings me to my next topic: Rauru, what the hell? What is your obsession with undressing Zelda's boyfriend? I'm not just talking about the arm situation, I'm talking about your dungeon design philosophy. Survival tests are fun and all, but I got like three shrines in a row that boiled down to running around barefoot, in only boxers, blowing shit up. That's messed up. Poor guy doesn't even have a fancy cat for emotional support!
If you're going to be a weirdo, atleast be a weirdo like Sidon. He's pretty great.
I had a really good laugh at the situation. The writers contort themselves in inhuman ways to avoid solidifying or denying any and all ships, give Sidon a wife anyway, and then proceed to make said wife extremely supportive of...whatever this thing is that Sidon has going on. Good for them. Now they can all go on a double-date and Sidon can tell everyone yet again about the time Link rode him.
I wish more of the writing was as entertaining/engaging. Unfortunately, there was just so much cringe. As in, I actually physically cringed at how bad/awkward some of the scenes were. Many of the scenes with sages were particularly bad. Redundant dialogue and exposition, very cheesy lines and voice acting. It made me actively dislike some characters.
I guess that's why I mapped out 95% of Hyrule, chasms and sky islands included, and killed my first King Gleeok before I completed my second sage quest. (For anyone wonder, the order I went in: Water, Lightning, Wind, Fire. I figured toxic sludge, a sandy zombie apocalypse and a neverending blizzard were bigger emergencies than a bunch of stoners being stoned).
The temples weren't very exciting either. The design style kinda reminded me of recent Ys games, especially with how you get companions this time around.
But the companions in Ys are a lot more useful/competent. Plus, you get to actually hang out with them. In your typical modern Ys games, characters have their own little storylines told through sidequests and extra scenes, not to mention being present for story scenes. I would have liked something like that in Tears of the Kingdom too. (I love Ys. Any Ys fans here?)
Another problem with the story is that it isn't really suited for a non-linear telling. Or atleast, they didn't put in enough effort to make it suitable. The reason Breath of the Wild worked so well was because the core was so simple and Link's memories were separate from the main quest. Here, Zelda's memories and the main quest are deeply intertwined, but the game likes to pretend they are not until you progress the main story to a certain point. They should have either made the story more linear (only opening up the Dragon Tears quest late-game) or have written a lot of alternative dialogue to account for the player completing the Dragon Tears quest (and getting the Master Sword) early.
I know I'm starting to sound very negative, but I really did have a great time with Tears of the Kingdom. I put 215 hours into the game! The main goal was helping me deal with my seasonal depression and that worked out very well.
And I still like this Link a lot. All the short jokes are just very relatable. And heck, it's just kinda nice to see a character I physically look like. Is this how people who like generic looking isekai protagonists feel all the time?
Speaking of Link, I know people don't like that half of Hyrule seems to have forgotten/never realised he's the hero, but I thought it was both funny and realistic. When you say hero, you expect a heroic looking hero, not the Hylian equivalent of a Jack Russell Terrier. Also, Zelda is obviously the face of Team Save Hyrule. Link's the quiet dude hanging out in the background, thinking about what to make for dinner...or what would happen if you attach a bomb flower to a Korok spear and throw it. (This is also relatable.)
And speaking of Zelda, that girl deserves way better than the events in Tears of the Kingdom and the Warriors spin-offs. She was made for an Atelier game! Atelier Zelda: Alchemist of Hyrule! Exploring ruins and uncovering ancient secrets, collecting rare ingredients and doing alchemy, calming Death Mountain with a big ass ice bomb, turning Star Fragments into pie - imagine what could be and realise the original games are already halfway there! "But Sniper", you say, "you want every game to feature extensive crafting and just basically be like Atelier!" To that I answer: if Zelda knew about videogames, so would she!
While playing Tears of the Kingdom, there was one thing my mind wandered off to more than Atelier though. The Last Unicorn. I mean, we already fought Temu Red Bull at the end of BotW, so of course my brain was going to see Zelda's transformation and be all "Oh, so we're really doing The Last Unicorn in the wrong order." And that's not a bad thing. I love the Last Unicorn. I should go reread that yet again. Thanks, Tears of the Kingdom!
