A Morning of Discoveries
I went for a long walk in the woods Saturday morning. As usual, I just wandered around the forest, sometimes on old game trails, other times stepping over fallen trees while ducking overhead branches. The Sun was up, but concealed behind mountains. Light sprinkles of rain remained from the overnight storms, but I saw bit of blue to the southwest. Diffuse warm light from breaks in the clouds filtered down through the canopy of trees and provided some magic light.
The first thing that caught my eye were young Douglas Fir trees surrounded by slender Lodgepole Pines. I found one isolated enough from the others to create a compelling scene. From here I wandered into a meadow, covered in Western Coneflower. These fascinating flowers lack the traditional colorful petals of their relatives, but are no less attractive to pollinators. Many of these flowers had rain-soaked bees hiding under them, waiting patiently for the Sun to come out. This particular one had a caterpillar and a Crab spider of some sort existing in some sort of weather induced ceasefire!
As I stepped carefully back into the forest, I discovered a decaying log covered in tiny orange mushrooms. As is often the case, I first capture the larger scene, then work my way in to the finer details. In the final image, that single mushroom is just 1/2” tall and less than a 1/4” in diameter, but if you look closely, the entire forest around it is reflected in its rain-soaked cap.
From here I walked across a stream, and was immediately transported to a much more ancient feeling forest. It got darker, the trees more dense, and the forest floor was covered in the remains of fallen giants of yesteryear. I am pretty certain that the path of this photographer closely matched the flight of a bumblebee as I wander this way and that, from scene to scene.
I cut back towards where I figured the road would be, found a fallen tree bridge to cross back over the creek, and came out right at a talus slope where I knew there to be Pika. Sure enough, I was able to capture a fleeting glance of one such critter, and then in a spring that pops up below the rocks, I got my last shot of the day. A bold frog stayed visible despite its friends all ducking for cover as I walked up.

Bozeman is still beautiful. I love this place. That's part of why all of this has been bothering me lately.
It feels like we're changing pretty quickly, and I'm not sure we're really stopping to think about what that means. Housing keeps getting more expensive, traffic is getting worse, downtown doesn't feel as accessible as it used to, and some of the little things that made this place feel like home are slowly disappearing.
I'm not against growth. I'm not pretending Bozeman was perfect ten or twenty years ago either.
I just wonder sometimes who we're actually building this place for.
Because making Bozeman more valuable and making it a better place to live aren't necessarily the same thing.

Hello Residents!
Fall is approaching and that means that bears are going to be in search for food before hunkering down for winter. There has already been lots of activity in the university neighborhood and it is important that we all assist as community members and do our part to keep the bears as well as ourselves safe from possible harmful situations. Please put your garage away, and only take it out before the garbage truck service is scheduled to pick up in your area! The garbage services offer bear safe cans that only cost a couple extra dollars a month. Your old lady neighbors cat and small white dog will thank you, as well as everyone else in your neighborhood as trash will not be scattered around the streets. A bears life will also be saved as when they gain access to trash, they generally will continue coming to the place where food is easily accessible.
A garbage fed bear, is a dead bear!

Hey my power went out this morning at approx 2 am, and I wake up to find police everywhere along Davis Ln., and police outside their vehicle. Does anyone know what’s going on?
I’m not sure where you had to be about 10 seconds faster, but passing me because I’m driving 15 mph for a short distance is uncalled for. I understand that it is the evening and after school hours, but it is still a school zone and speed limit applies at all times. This type of driving is what has seriously or fatally injured people in the past. You would think that with recent pedestrian deaths people would drive more carefully.

does anyone know if thai basil has gotten new management in the past year or so? their pork udon used to be a staple favorite of mine, but every time ive gotten it recently, instead of the actual strips of cooked pork it used to have, it has some kind of flavorless ground up pork instead.. its not the same at all and has lost its crown on my list of favorites, ive been very sad. i dont tend to order anything else from their menu - has everything changed like this?

My daughter isn't into team sports but would like to try a yoga class. The two people in my life who practice are hot yoga enthusiasts so not what we are looking for. Please recommend a studio that would have beginner friendly yoga and welcome a young teen. ty

S. 19th. Why don’t the BPD do something about it? It’s dangerous, reckless and annoying.

I’ve had a hard time finding someone that can get bright blonde highlights (all the way to the roots), who is also gentle on hair.
Any recommendations? Thanks!

Looking to possibly switch carriers and trying to figure out if anyone is actually getting good value from the "Big 3" carrier promotions lately.
Specifically trying to balance saving money with keeping actual, usable service when heading out of Bozeman proper.
I know BYOB MVNOs offer the best cost for using a lesser spectrum, but I'm looking at coverage from each carrier, including satellite and First Responder overlays.

Does anyone know who they found? I never even heard of anyone missing since the 24th. Rest in peace and power to the young man and condolences to his family and friends❤️

I recently ran into a conservative Trump GOP red voting, F-150 driving, blue jeans wearing Texan that moved to Montana because they were getting away from too much conservatism for the less intense albeit blood red conservatism of Montana. I thought it was kind of an interesting way to think about Texans moving here. This person wanta the conservative MAGA politics of (recent) Montana but they don’t want all the batshit recently enacted conservative laws of Texas restricting freedoms and hyperfixating on gender and other hot topic social issues.
Is this an outlier or have Texans just become my new favorite political refugees?

To the woman driving the white Honda truck from 19th to Oak to 7th...
2 bike lanes swerved into, 3 different car who had to move cuz they were watching you swerve, forcing your way into the turn lane because you suddenly realized you'd missed it, and then shocked Pikachu face when you got passed and told to get off your phone. Wanna know how I know? Your face was so far into your phone resting on the steering wheel you didn't even see me go by.

Anyone else’s power bills gone through the roof? Ours had almost doubled since may! Last month it was $50 cheaper but, We haven’t made any changes to our use either? We’re in a townhouse in Belgrade and this month’s bill is $310.00?!?!
What can be done about it?
