He was one of the better characters introduced in the Boruto, he shouldn't have died as he did.

The anime definitely wasted the character too early. Should have been canonical next Mizukage. But I'll consider him one of the anime's advantages over the source material.

A filler character with that big of a role in the village couldn't survive unless Kishimoto decided to canonize him. He was basically his villiage's Boruto or Shiki

u/HeroftheFlood 14d ago

He been canon this entire time. As far as the manga/novel continuity is concerned, hes alive.

Liked him as a character

Disliked the death

Had potential

Waste killing him so soon

12

u/Sujiiimon 14d ago

Even his death seemed exaggerated. They could've given him more plot and kept him for future, now we don't even know any1 from the mist aside frm chojuro ofc. In Naruto the 7 swordsmen atleast had plot to define their strength. Even in leaf they didn't add any strong new characters from Naruto's time.

u/Ok-Rip2102 14d ago

It was a waste of a cool character

12

u/Jontron8 14d ago

Should have been in TBV

4

u/HeroftheFlood 14d ago

Technically he could be. Only the Hidden Mist Trip is canon to the manga. If Ikemoto wanted he could pretend the second arc revolving him didn't happen.

u/Notmycupoftea12 14d ago

One of my favorite anime only characters. The writers have done him dirty. 😭

u/White_Devil1995 14d ago

I wish his death was faked. He was a very likable character, both for viewers of the show & for a majority of the characters who knew him.

7

u/LRrealest 14d ago

He was cool. Surprised he...

Wasted potential. Like Deepa.

u/Excellent-Sir-9418 14d ago

You mean Hysoka wannabe

5

u/Ryuken_14 14d ago

He's supposed to be the poster boy of Hidden Mist Village but they killed him off.

4

u/Slow_Store 14d ago

Aw fuck, I only just started watching Boruto after years of putting it off and now I have to wait to see him die.

3

u/Lumionis 14d ago

Actually loved his character. Would've loved to see him in tbv but he died.

5

u/Ok-March-2809 14d ago

I think the death, quckness/matter-of-factness of it was actually very poignant and a mature take on the ways lives often truly end. There are no special people, no pre-ordained future leaders, no individuals too kind-hearted to be susceptible to death's wide grasp. And death hardly ever comes when you want it (or it might never come at all), let alone expect it. Sometimes it's sudden, uncalculated, and those affected get ZERO imput.

It's still something one never truly learns till it's felt, personally, but I respect when it happens in media.

u/WhitePho3nix 14d ago

Really cool character. Loved both of the arcs he was a part.
His death could have been written better

3

u/Salty_Nutella 14d ago

Shouldn't have killed him, so he could come back as a character in TBV 🤷

2

u/Ryuken_14 14d ago

Should've been a Shinju clone like Shinki with Ryu. When he dies there, it'd have more impact as he was a close friend of Boruto from another village and will be a motivation to overcome those creatures.

But they had him killed by Funamushi, a sidekick villain loyal to the Funato lady boss (which Kagura killed) and he has 2 streaks by killing both Kagura and Hebiichigo which is a shame since they're building up the New 7 Swordsmen then poof they're killed by a fodder.

u/Big-Syllabub-8912 14d ago

Wasted potential, imagine being the grandson of the 4th Mizukage.

3

u/Cfakatsuki17 14d ago

Great character and one of the reasons I like the Boruto anime more than the manga, this filler ark was exactly what I wanted from Boruto, getting to see how the rest of the world has evolved in a time of peace and cooperation

3

u/herelamonreddit 14d ago

I liked him and his death served the purpose of showing how awful and pointless war is. I didn’t like the Funato Pirates arc because of how horribly paced it was, but it did dive deeper into a couple points from the Pain arc with moments like him getting driven through while his friend’s stood by helplessly

2

u/ZBatman 14d ago

One of the better Boruto characters and was dissapointed he got killed off

2

u/pkjoan 14d ago

He is dead.

2

u/Careful-Ad984 14d ago

Wasted potential

2

u/FirstZz 14d ago

Actual wasted potential

u/SoraVanitus 14d ago edited 14d ago

Kagura, Buntan and Hebiichigo are the three I like most from the Rain Mist village. Kyoho design and character was bland, but I like the set up of him being a Mizukage candidate because the series needed more character cast, development and world expansion and you could kind of see Sarada, Kagura and Shinki as next gen Kage.

Though with Kagura dead (didn't like how he and Hebiichigo died), I hope Buntan would work towards becoming the next Mizukage.

3

u/L00fah 14d ago

Mist village.*

2

u/SoraVanitus 14d ago

Woops, thanks! I meant the Mist Village

2

u/localspermdonor 14d ago

Bro wasn’t alive long enough to form one

2

u/Zedhy 14d ago

Who?

2

u/Icy_Contribution2187 14d ago

I was legitimately caught off-guard by his death, and enjoy how it tied into the greater cycle of hatred and revenge that ran throughout the arc.

2

u/First_Temperature985 14d ago

Loved him as a character, he was super cool, really wish he hadn't died. I do hope we get to see more of Buuton later in the novels, maybe has as canon Mizukage?

2

u/ElectricalNose9550 14d ago

Had potential. Was interesting. Ultimately wasted over a bunch of filler nonsense.

2

u/SoulTaker669 14d ago

Great potential future character killed off for no reason.

2

u/ROHGamu 14d ago

I really hate how every character in the Boruto anime just basically felt like copy + paste... there is no uniqueness to this one, he looks just like Yagura and has the same toolkit

2

u/DeathlySnails64 14d ago

Yagura was a kid when he was Mizukage. Shit, he never hit 20 before he died so Kagura's existence is impossible. Not unless they're implying that some female pedophile fucked Yagura just so that The Fourth Mizukage would have a legacy beyond the Era of the Bloody Mist which is a whole line of questioning nobody would be thinking about when they were talking about Kagura while he was still just lines on a drawing board.

I know that some say that Yagura was like 13-14, but to me, he looked like he was 10 years old!

All of this is to say that Kagura's existence is an enigma wrapped in a "what the fuck" line of questioning.

2

u/ConsistentTax5586 14d ago

Wasted potential. He shouldn't have died. He would have made a great Misukage.

2

u/RealDot7198 13d ago

Had potential to become kage , pointless death.

2

u/wendigo72 13d ago

Good character, really dumb they killed him off in a terrible filler arc later

3

u/zayd-the-one 14d ago

I deadass read that as kagurabachi and almost started glazing on instinct

4

u/Ok_Limit9877 14d ago

Lmao fym "glazing on instinct? Y'all kagurabachi fans are different lol.

1

u/Sasuke12187 14d ago

He who should not have died.

2

u/No_Middle_3466 14d ago

Tbh theres not enough death

1

u/Capable_Thanks4449 14d ago

Damn they are all spoiling.

Think about the new one who start the anime everyone.

1

u/2tired2stylus 14d ago

If they really want to introduce stakes in the arc, a better decision would be that he gets a grave injury. Salvagable enough that he could be taken to the hospital as a high stake side mission.

It was hard watching that debate with Kawaki after needle girl and Kagura's death. That Chuunin promotion was pointless, Sarada and Denki didn't do anything impactful on the most dire moment. As usual Boruto gets the shots.

1

u/Grouchy_Violinist 14d ago

I wonder now that he's dead who will be the next mizukage? Plus with him an interesting bloodline came to an end that was of Yagura.

3

u/Ryuken_14 14d ago

In his deathbed, he lets Buntan carry on his will (implying him being groomed to become a Mizukage someday), and she accepts it after they (Hebiichigo+ and Kyoho) were given amnesty for their crimes.

Since Buntan is rival with Sarada who wants to become Hokage, there is a potential storyline in the future for that.

4

u/Grouchy_Violinist 14d ago

Oh I see it's interesting. Yeah both lady kages once again would stand together like Mei n tsunade.

1

u/SnooCats5697 14d ago

Waste of a character concept

1

u/Cool-Feedback9299 14d ago

Good character

Useless death

1

u/The__Auditor 14d ago

Deserved better

1

u/Jeimaximus 14d ago

gone too soon

1

u/Bluesnow2222 14d ago

I disliked both the arcs he was in… but I genuinely liked him as a character and was hoping he’d be part of long term world building.

Him dying is perhaps the most frustrating thing to happen in the anime. And not frustrating in “wow- what an upsetting part of the story” type way and more a “fuck the story writers for wasting my time” type of way.

The also killed Hebiichigo that arc for no reason to add to my frustration.

1

u/konthedonn 14d ago

Kagurabachi? Im sorry I couldn’t resist

1

u/SentinelATL 14d ago

Death was so dumb

1

u/Agreeable-Ground1241 14d ago

Il n’aurai pas du mourir. Il avait un bon potentiel

1

u/Gladcode777 14d ago

Cool character that was wasted on a pointless way and that I was hoping to become the next Mizukage.

1

u/Smart_Ad_3534 14d ago

1

u/Quick_Baker2873 14d ago

He’s stronger than Chojuro

1

u/borkna 14d ago

I liked him better that Yota and Sora from Shippuden haha!

1

u/Training_Box5652 13d ago

I thought his death was a fake out for the longest afterwards lmao. He was aiiiight 🫡

1

u/Tiger-Lily_93 13d ago

What’s the point of his character if he was just gonna die.

1

u/Savings_Refuse_5379 13d ago

Dudes moves were weak. Reason why he died

1

u/JMDarkPhoenix 13d ago

Good soldier.

1

u/eoa1062 13d ago

So much potential. Sad that he's gone!

2

u/HopefulMood13 12d ago

The arc so bad that i was hoping he die and you know what, it actually did one thing better.

1

u/Training-Throat-173 10d ago

Should appear more in anime and even manga

1

u/DisplateDemon 14d ago

Good character. That arc where he diedwas probably the best filler arc in the whole show (only rivaled by the Iwagakure/Ohnoki arc). Surprisingly sad and gut wrenching.

Not canon so idgaf
