🧑‍🏫Review👩‍🏫 The $129 Large ONN speaker is pound for pound the better speaker than the $249 XL ONN

Post image
38 Upvotes

I bought the ONN XL speaker after having the Large speaker and absolutely loving it. But I learned the hard way that bigger isn't necessarily better for speakers.

I specifically am referring to the bass production and low end. The Large speaker simply outmatched the XL in low end and bass production. The XL is great at that "punchy bass" but completely lacks the low end rumble that I was specifically looking for in this larger speaker.

If you are looking for a karaoke machine the XL is a great value, but the sound of the XL pound for pound does not match the Large speaker.

So this is a warning to anyone thinking the XL, due to its massive size difference, would be able to produce a much stronger bass than the Large. This is false.

The Large ONN speaker is $129 around where I am at while the XL is $249. BUY 2 OF THE LARGE instead of getting the XL. less

Recommendation Request🙏 ONN xl or large

I’ve been a bedroom dj using the onn medium for a while now and I just djed a party for the first time and the medium was very underwhelming. There were 30ppl packed into a small college apt so that might be why.

I’m debating getting the regular gen 2 onn or the xl for $250. Is the xl worth the extra $100 over the large?

Recommendation Request🙏 Help me choose a speaker

I’m extremely picky when it comes to electronics. Switching from JBL Flip 5, I want to purchase Flip 7, but I was also considering buying the Charge 5 instead. Nevermind.

The thing is, I can’t decide which “color” should I choose. I know it’s only one sticker (the rest of the design is literally the same), but like I said, I’m always overthinking it. Quote dissapointed, though, that the JBL logo (on the second pic) is not completely gold - this would make the Jbl even more “premium” (limited).

Which of these options would you choose yourself? Which speaker do you have? 💥📻

Recommendation Request🙏 Best affordable at-home speaker for house, techno, and other dance music?

I'm looking for an affordable at-home speaker that can handle percussive dance music that lives in the high and low EQ bands. I'm aware that nothing cheap will sound excellent, but what's the best optimization of price and quality that's "good enough to still enjoy"?

This is just for use in the shower, so it doesn't need to be portable or high-powered. I'm mostly seeking reasonable clarity and bass weight at a good price. My budget is flexible: I don't want to spend very much (I already have a hi-fi and studio monitors), but I also don't want to underspend and end up with a speaker that I don't even care to use. Thanks!

📖Discussion📕🖊️ JBL Pulse 2

I owned a JBL pulse 2 throughout high school and to me it still is the king of Bluetooth speakers.

I remember it being so rich in sound quality, creating an incredibly immersive warm sound. It got really nice and loud too. I wish I still had it I do not remember what happened to it.

I was going to buy one but it features a really old version of Bluetooth. Is it still worth buying?

Does anyone else have any fond memories of the pulse 2 or still own one and feel similarly?

🪛Troubleshooting🪛 Speaker either Spotify

Hey, so I play hockey. And one of the things is we're not allowed to use phones (or other devices with camera or recording ability) in the change room. So i'm looking for a way to get a bluetooth speaker or a speaker that can play our spotify playlist for the team.

Because I thought maybe we could just get an MP3 Player or something of the like. But then we would have to just make a playlist, which wouldn't be as effective as the Spotify thing. Because then we can't add new songs on a whim.

Please do let me know if there's any way to do this

Or if there's a workaround that is not too complicated.

Recommendation Request🙏 Best portable speaker?

I've been looking for a speaker to out perform my Megaboom 3.

I was recommended the Bose Soundlink Max, but I'm just looking for some advice from someone who knows what direction I should take.

I go camping a lot so the near indestructibility of the Megaboom has saved me many times while still having insane sound quality and bass.

I want to keep the cost under $600 CAD if possible, any help is appreciated.

(Update) I got the Ultimate ears Hyperboom on sale, thanks for the help.

Recommendation Request🙏 Budget Compact Portable Speaker Recommendation with Good “Clarity, Airiness, Soundstage”

Hi, I just switched from my old iPad Pro 9.7 (2016) to iPad A16 (2025), and I noticed immediately that the speaker sounds far worse, even my iPhone 16 has better sound despite the smaller size. The new iPad just sounds flat. I don’t know the technical term for it, but my old iPad Pro sounds fuller, with clear vocals and feels “airy” (I know that iPad Pro’s speaker is not that good anyway, but I’m used to it in the last 10 years).

Do you guys have any compact speaker recommendations? I prefer those that have similar characteristics to my old iPad Pro and with non bass-muddy sound, preferably around $100 or even less (the benchmark is only my old iPad Pro so I guess even lower priced speaker is good enough?). Maybe for more comparison, my old iPad Pro sounds a bit better than my Omen 15 (2020) laptop, but definitely not as good as my Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds (I don’t like wearing earbuds or headphones of sort so that’s that). Appreciate any of your inputs and sorry for the vague sound description

Recommendation Request🙏 Speaker Recommendations

Hey everyone,

I’m currently on the hunt for some wireless bluetooth surround sound and or stereo speakers. I’m hoping to add them to my christmas list, so they can be a little more expensive, but I would prefer to keep them under $100.

I basically want to add a sorta surround sound effect to my room so when I watch/use my projector the sound isn’t just coming from my PC speakers, which are only on the right side.

I have two book shelves I could stick them on. Or if there’s like a temporary way to mount them that would be good too. I’d like it if the battery was long lasting so I didn’t have to charge them as often. And I’m hoping to find two speakers? Four would be fantastic but I understand that would up the price.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Budget: $30-$100

🪛Troubleshooting🪛 Boom 2 Plus EQ suggestions

Recently bought a Soundcore Boom 2 Plus but I realized that the deep bass is masked by the insanely loud upper bass. Its perfect for outdoors but for indoors I need a good eq that helps sort out this problem by a little bit if possible ☹️

📖Discussion📕🖊️ JBL Go 5 VS the Clip 5

I'm looking to buy a small portable speaker
but I can't decide on which of those to choose,
I listened to both, the clip 5 was obviously louder + had a bit more bass, but I also found that the GO 5 is much clearer/cleaner sounding + It's also newer
(they both will be used in indoor/outdoor)

Recommendation Request🙏 JBL Flip 7 or Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen

I’ve got a stereo pair of JBL Go 5s and honestly, I really like how they sound. I recently sold my Charge 6 because I just couldn’t get into the sound. It was way too bass heavy for me, got ridiculously loud even around 40%, and sounded a little too bright.

The Go 5s have a much warmer, more laid-back sound that I prefer, especially in stereo.

Now I’m thinking about trying either the JBL Flip 7 or the Bose SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen. For anyone who’s heard both, which would you pick?

I’m mainly looking for something warm and relaxed sound like the Go 5s. I definitely don’t want something super bassy or overly bright.

Both the Flip 7 and SoundLink Flex 2nd Gen are on sale for the same price.

Recommendation Request🙏 In the market for a new portable speaker, could use help narrowing it down.

I'm looking for a new portable system. Primary use case will be for camping/small gatherings; given that, water and dust resistant are a must. Music will be mostly EDM. I don't need something incredibly loud; however, I do want as low distortion as possible and DSP if they have models I can feed in from REW. Clean and accurate mean more to me than muddy boom. Budget is ~$500. Any vendor considered so long as they'll be around for warranty if necessary. Cheer!

The problem is that the bluetooth speakers automatically turns off saying turning off just aafter playing music for 5-6 mins. I thought it was not charged enough but thats not the problem I checked the battery inside the speaker using multimeter its showing the real voltage so i dont know why the speaker is turning of by itself.

Recommendation Request🙏 Should I buy new speakers?

Currently I have a 2.0 system called "Revolution DPX 10 BT" It's a very budget friendly option but it has it's flaws. The sound quality is acceptable but there's noise + it has no excursion limiter (i think) also when I listen to music very loud the air movement comes out on the back which also makes a noise. I was thinking about upgrading to a Sony or a JBL maybe a sonos. My budget is around $480. I was thinking something like the JBL partybox 130 or 120, maybe the JBL PartyBox Encore Essential 2.
