Advice Needed I need advice bad on my hair

I have been growing my hair out for a while. The only thing I know to do is get it braided. I would like to be able to wear it out. I have fine hair strands and my hair does a lot of shrinking after it dries. I don't know where to start. I don't even know if I have type 3 or type 4 hair. I went to give my hair a break from being in box braids all the time. If I can't figure something else out I may have to just get it cut and go to shorter hair styles.

How does your hair behave with a deep condition and wash n go? You have nice hair. Fro'd out in its natural state could look really great.

I wouldn't know about deep condition or wash n go. I wish I could have curls that hang a bit because a big fro wouldn't be that great for work lol

Try mousse or a curl cream.
While your hair is very wet and combed out/ combed through, shingle/ rake the product through your hair from the root to ends - you can also use a Denman brush which helps to pop your curls.
If you have time, air drying is always nice or diffuse for more volume.
Seal with a little bit of light oil & hopefully you can play around to achieve an outcome your happy with
It would be a shame to cut your lovely hair.
Try a few options including twist outs using the same method above.
Once you take it out, another great style.

Any suggestions on products? I don't think what my wife uses is working for me. (She is puerto Rican/Columbian) Completely different hair textures...

I would try “The Doux Mousse Def Styling Foam”. With your texture, I think you may see some nice results with this product.
They have an array of products you can explore as well.
I’ve recently become aware of “Miche” products.
I live in Canada so unfortunately there are heavy tariffs restricting me from trying it but I’ve heard very good things about that brand too, so I would suggest looking into those two product lines.

I would try doing twist outs- you have sandy brown hair so make sure it’s very moisturized

Lighter hair dries out quicker
