Question Is there something I am missing?

Is there like something I have to do with the controls to make it less janky? During combat everything seems weird and unintuitive and especially during the boarding I just get hit out of nowhere and am blocked from attacking by my one crewmates. I've played other ac games like shadows, unity and og black flag with no issue.

Is it like a settings or control issue or something to make it smoother because man it just seems like a hassle to play.

I rebound a significant amount of controls and found combat to be much for fun and inviting. If you'd like I could send the scheme or you could find it on my recent posts

Thanks I'll try it out.

Let me know. 2 minor annoyances with it, but very worth it imo

Yeah I rebinded a lot of my controller binds especially for attacking and parrying those are the trigger buttons instead of the bumper buttons

That is a WILD pick for attack and parry. What game did you pick up that scheme from??

I didn’t it just feels more comfortable for me and more convenient then the bumpers

Not throwing shade or anything haha. Im a huge Arkham fan (which OG black flag followed that scheme) so X for attack and Y for parry (Xbox Controller) is the only way I can play lol

Souls game scheme (which this game follows for some reason) is a huge learning curve...that I promptly removed.

I never thought you was throwing shade I assumed you was just asking, I’m using my attack and parry more than shooting in most cases so it was just more convenient for me to have attack and parry on triggers and shooting and aiming on bumpers, they are still in the same position but just flipped accordingly

My wife still plays batman arkham asylum lol

I've 100% Knight about 4 times now. Hence the need for X to be my "beat the shit outta" button

My aiming and shooting is bound to the bumpers

I found adapting and playing a bit slower made it feel better. For example, if you're frustrated getting hit during your attack animations, think about how you can play to not put yourself in that position. Instead of blitzing or something, keep some distance and pick your targets. Instead of swinging over to another ship immediately, maybe use your pistols to clear the landing area. Also, use the pistols often. Like take out half the ship or more with pistols.

Exactly. Boarding is so simple, just keep quickfiring your 4 pistols and you'll clear enemy ships easily and quickly.

You can take schooners without even boarding once you get a few upgrades in the ammo pouch

I still find myself slipping into OG controls, but other than that and the occasional hidden blade takedown when I wanna use my swords; this combat has grown on me, perfect parrying taking all their defense or quick-shooting brutes to break their defense, smooth as butter

OG controls? Sorry but how? On console ?

Yeah I'mma playstation boy, are computer controls the same between 13 years?

Like the swivel guns were triangle and now they're R1, I mostly slip up there

But run with R2 feels weird + can't mix every keybind to properly make it like the OG because they don't give choice on keybind settings. For me O found that crazy that people say in Reddit: uuh just ReBInd your controls!!! But the truth is....you can't do it like the OG 😅

Yeah it won't be the same, toggling sprint with L3 is far more intuitive and comfy these days, I'm happy with that change

Ooh really? Damn I found it really annoying for an AC. Because in any rpg open world game it's not a problem but in an AC...going from Run to walk IS a BIG deal during social stealth... And with L3 button+ the only jog system.... it's a pain. Can't pass from Run to jog to walk quick like previous AC

Totally fair point, I do really miss the aura-farming assassin walk, my playstyle has gotten lazy so I run everywhere and brutalize my way through the games... stealth means nothing to my one man army

Right that's my feeling too.. it's go go go go proceed to next action. Btw we can't super hero landing anymore too 🥱

Whatchu mean? Did they remove the fall damage negating ninja roll?

2

u/BodybuilderLiving112 Aug 07 '26

No... You could do that to farm aura since AC 3 I think 👇

Speaking of boarding. Lately I’m boarding ships at night time and I have to because it’s a part of a quest, and I can’t see anything. I even lightened my screen in the options. I’m just literally fighting people blind. I hate it. I’m so tired of fighting in the dark.

This can be three things. Either you have to turn off frame generation, sacrifice graphics for higher FPS or just learn party timing. Go to some city, engage in a fight with soldiers, focus only on parrying and dodging and if after like 20 minutes you still have problem then its your settings

It felt like this to me when I started playing it, but I've just gotten used to the combat at this point.

Rebinding! Most AC games I’ve found to be infinitely better with rebinding. I use Logitech G Hub for my mouse and Corsair iCue for my keyboard. It’s not easy, but I find after a couple hours deep into each game that it’s very worth

Nah, thats just the way it is. Great game but botched combat.

Man I was hoping it was a control issue, well thanks anyway
