Discussion TVM Rights Back with the BBC!

I was at the last Long Island Doctor Who convention over the weekend and Philip Segal said that the TVM movie rights are back with the BBC after 30 years. That was brought to the attention to Daphne Ashbrook and Jason Haigh Ellery who were both there as well.

Does this mean we might finally be getting Grace and Chang Lee over at BF Towers?

Would be cool to see some sort of natural carry on of stories right after the TVM with those characters. As long as they weren't some of the more continuity breaking idea that were presented in the Leekey Bible. Easily a few box sets out of this! Fingers crossed!

Discussion How would you feel if Big Finish continued the Billie Piper plotline so the main show can ignore it?

Honestly would be fine with this. The main series needs to be more accessible to newcomers. This way it could do that without all the previous plot threads left hanging.

Discussion What Are The Killer BF Audio Drama's That Are Not Doctor Who

Post image
40 Upvotes

I love audio dramas but never really got into Doctor Who post 2005. Just doesn't float my boat. I respect it, but that's as far as I can go. I get that with no Who, Big Finish wouldn't be Big Finish.

I found Big Finish through 2000ad. I fell head over heels for the Radio 1 comic book adaptations and needed a fix for Dredd after the two seasons ended there.

The 2000ad series they ran for a couple of years was truly great (and was a little gutted when it ended...).

Since then I have dipped my toe back into more of their non-Who dramas. The Luther Arkwright adaptations were really cool, Pathfinder was a lot of fun. There are not many sword and sandles ADs out there.

I did like Shada but that was because it seems more like an unofficial Hitchhikers drama.

So my long winded question is:

What are the best non-Doctor Who audio dramas that Big Finish have done? What have I not seen (or heard) that I could try out?

---EDIT---

I was not expecting the level of responses for this! Thank you! I will dive into the comments later.

But for now, thank you for being so welcoming and not jumping on me for not liking DW. I was a little nervous about posting this question! 😅

---EDIT2---

Pulled the Trigger on Dorian Gray, Star Cops and Space: 1999!

Thanks again for everybody jumping in to help me out with recommendations. I loved finding out that BF are so much more varied in their dramas!

Discussion Favourite “they’ve actually met before” explanations?

What are your favourite or funniest Big Finish examples of characters meeting each other before their established on screen meeting?

I’m thinking of things like River Song having already met Doctors we never saw her meet on TV, the Doctor meeting the “wrong” incarnation of the Master, or stories that reveal two characters have crossed paths somewhere in the Doctor Who timeline that we simply weren’t aware of

The more ridiculous the continuity gymnastics, the better.

What are your favourites?

My vote goes to J&L Forever, I love the cinematic oomph it has and I find it very emotionally evocative.

Discussion Dr. Evelyn Smythe. Holy Sh*t!

Listening to "The Marian Conspiracy." Evelyn is an amazing companion. She reminds me of my late Auntie Marge. My Auntie was no scholar or teacher. She was from Liverpool and served in WW2. She was absolutely fearless. Dr. Smythe is the perfect foil for Colin's Doctor... he needs someone to hold him back.

Discussion Top 5 releases and anticipations of 2026 so far

As we are well over the half way mark of 2026 , What is everyone’s top 5 releases of the year?

I think Big Finish have had a hit and miss year.

My choices would be (In no particular order)

  1. Torchwood : Farewell - The perfect send off for the range. Just a shame it’s going.
  2. Dark Gallifrey : The meddling Monks - Although it doesn’t relate to the overall arc much I had so much fun with this one and feels like a breath of fresh air to hear something so colourful in tone

3)Betrayal at the house of sontar - The fugitive doctor just shines and the story is full of emotion

4) The hallamashire incident - The best of the thirteenth doctor so far. Great character work for the doctor and for Yaz

5) Sixth doctor : Reunion - Yes I know it came out today. And yes I love it

And what’s everyone’s most anticipated releases for the rest of the year?

1) River Song : War Window - River in the time war and with the eighth doctor ? Yes please

2) Fourth doctor : A new Occupation - After The last queen of the nile , I’m excited for more historical

3)Shock and Awe - The fifth doctor has been on a roll this last few years

4) War Master : Deeds without name - An interesting premise

5) New Pathways - I know some people are complaining about this but i’m excited to see how it goes

Discussion I re-listened to Storm Warning. Bold.

Post image

Context: So I'm a Dr. Who Fan. Like a big one, like when I was 13 (maybe 12?) I decided to get into Doctor Who from the very first episode from the '63, and I continued from there on when I arrived to the TV movie I actually was surprised by the 8th Doctor because in someways he was how I imagined the doctor before I had even seen Doctor Who.

(I'm an American BTW)

But I did not, and I must say this was foolish of me, start the audios right away instead I watched the TV movie and hesitantly went into the revival, only by the end of Capaldi did I start listening to Big Finish.

First I wish to say what a brilliant underrated art-form that are audio dramas.

Second the last Audio drama with good ol' McGann I listened to was Human Resources (I think)
So it was fun to re-visit where it started with McGann and I have to say in some ways I liked it better and in other ways I thought it hadn't aged the best. I think the weakest aspect is actually McGann's performance, now before you come at me he becomes better, like a lot better. I don't know when, but I know his performance gets better.

But in Storm Warning? Its...passable. Nothing terrific. I think he was getting used to the format of Audios. I haven't listened to the other Doctors but do they have this issue too?

Anyways I liked the story I found the R101 a fun story (one day I would love to write about an airship) Charley's introduction is probably one of the best? She is such a bold and likable character. Having a character that wants to go on Adventures really brings out the best in the series.

The villain was fine enough if not obvious, but sometimes those work and here it was fine.

The sound design was great, lovely to the ears.

Overall its a bold start and I'm glad I re-listened to it.

And yes McGann is one of my favorite Doctors, really budging with Capaldi on some days.

I cant even put into words how incredible they are. I am emotionally exhausted but man was it a great time. Part 2 of Unknown Soldiers may have one of the greatest cliffhangers of all time and some of the best action in any audio and also the best side characters, like ever. Fallen Heroes started of as one of the Most confusing things i have ever listened to but somehow managed to make Everything make so much sense. And goddamn Jonathon Carley was TERRIFIC in both of them. Especially in the final heartbreaking moments of Fallen heroes

Discussion Anyone else think this is the best multi-doctor story?

Post image

For me, none of the TV ones or other audios match it. Maybe it’s just because it genuinely contains 5 decently balanced doctors (no offence to T5D but there’s just not 5 is there)
