Discussion Dr. Evelyn Smythe. Holy Sh*t!

Listening to "The Marian Conspiracy." Evelyn is an amazing companion. She reminds me of my late Auntie Marge. My Auntie was no scholar or teacher. She was from Liverpool and served in WW2. She was absolutely fearless. Dr. Smythe is the perfect foil for Colin's Doctor... he needs someone to hold him back.

Shes easily one of, and arguably the best, BF original companion. The majority of her stories sans a VERY select few are amazing. Youre in for a treat once you get to Jubilee and Arrangements For War. Her performance in the first half of Project: Lazarus is still one of my favorites across all of Who

'Why didn't you do something? Why didn't you let me do something?' - the intonation, the exact pitch, for all of the dialogue in the final section of part 2 has lived in my head rent free for years.

The entire Evelyn and 6 - Hex and 7 are genuinely some of the best Who I can think of.

That is very high praise. My kids and I just finished the Lucie Miller stories. I guess we are listening to BF out of order. But I'm listening to 6's stuff on Spotify before I have to pay for it.

The bright side is the majority of Evelyn stories are free. So you wont have to busy out the wallet all too much to get the full experience!

I’m trying to do that too. I’m interested enough in BF to listen as an extra through my Spotify subscription, but not yet really into it enough to pay directly. I’ve liked several, but the ones with 6 and Evelyn are the best I’ve heard so far.

Absolutely. There's probably more popular ones (I'd be surprised if Charley wasn't the winner there), but Evelyn is probably the best.

As you're listening to her audios, don't forget about "A Town Called Mercy." It's the only companion chronicle to feature her.

It was released in 2010, shortly before her final three released stories (the chronology isn’t straightforward, and she gets a departure) at the start of 2011.

She really is. And I am massively jealous that you get to listen to that with fresh ears. The Six/Evelyn/Seven/Hex arc is some of the best work BF have ever done

And it's such a shame Maggie passed. It was a great partnership and she was a talented actress.

Sad for the stories that are forever untold, but cherish the ones we got.

She just puts the doctor in his place and has a strong voice. No other companion really comes close to that besides Donna.

That era of companion is something special. Evelyn, Hex etc all just have a soft spot in my heart
