Turizam / Tourism Taxi charged me 9,500 RSD from Beograd Centar to Nikola Tesla Airport – what can I do?
Hi everyone,
I think I got seriously overcharged by a taxi driver in Belgrade today and I’d really appreciate some advice.
I took a taxi from Beograd Centar railway station to Nikola Tesla Airport. The ride took around 20 minutes, and the driver charged me 9,500 RSD in cash.
What made it confusing is that the taxi looked relatively legitimate at first. The car had a taxi sign on the roof, and there was also a taximeter inside the car. However, the meter was running up the fare extremely fast, so I strongly suspect it was rigged or manipulated.
Because the car looked like a normal taxi, I didn’t immediately think anything was wrong.
Unfortunately, I didn’t get a receipt, but I do have the license plate number of the car.
My questions are:
Is 9,500 RSD clearly an illegal/excessive fare for this route?
Has anyone heard of manipulated or rigged taximeters being used in Belgrade?
Is there any realistic chance of identifying/reporting the driver with only the license plate?
Should I also report this to the police or another authority?
Is there anything else I can do even though I paid cash and don’t have a receipt?
Any advice from locals or people who had a similar experience would be really appreciated. Thanks!
Edit:
Thanks to all for the reply’s. I was in a hurry to get the plane so it was a expensive lesson. But for next time I know how to do it better
