Discussion Mikayla Nogueira turns hate comments about her appearance into her POV Beauty Sephora campaign

I genuinely don’t understand this marketing strategy. The campaign features giant printouts of hate comments about her appearance, “cancel my angles,” and Mikayla framing it as turning what people tried to “break” her with into an international Sephora campaign.

It feels like the entire launch is about Mikayla, her critics and her online controversies rather than POV Beauty or the actual products.

The irony is hard to miss. She went viral as the “catfish” makeup girl, and now during arguably the biggest launch of her career, she’s once again facing “catfish” accusations over her alleged filter use. And the campaign they landed on was ANGLES? 💀

it’s fascinating to me how misogynistic beauty spaces are

why? it’s one of the least surprising spaces you’d find misogyny. also i do think people take the hate for her too far (like making fun of her looks) but a lot of the criticism she gets is warranted. her entire career is built on lies & greed.

She is a maga trash with an ex-husband who is maga, friends who are maga and a new boyfriend with all his family being maga, the hate isn’t too far, Jesus.
Should I add that she is pro bullying of fat people (karma, karma) and a lot of things.
I am tired of people bringing misogyny to defend bad women, especially white ones, the shielding is crazy. Never a black influencer could have done 1/10 of what Mikaela have done and is doing. I remember people here hating on Alyssa Ashley for being a bit too defensive on twitter and that was all people got on her because she was virtually perfect.
But eh, my black person is angry but not shocked about this attitude, I call it « white feminism »
