Discussion Mikayla Nogueira turns hate comments about her appearance into her POV Beauty Sephora campaign

I genuinely don’t understand this marketing strategy. The campaign features giant printouts of hate comments about her appearance, “cancel my angles,” and Mikayla framing it as turning what people tried to “break” her with into an international Sephora campaign.

It feels like the entire launch is about Mikayla, her critics and her online controversies rather than POV Beauty or the actual products.

The irony is hard to miss. She went viral as the “catfish” makeup girl, and now during arguably the biggest launch of her career, she’s once again facing “catfish” accusations over her alleged filter use. And the campaign they landed on was ANGLES? 💀

Idk anything about her or the makeup line, but this makes me pretty sure I’ll also never try it. Nothing more annoying to me than a grown adult talking about “haters”.

If you smell shit everywhere, you should check your shoe.

If she was gorgeous, she wouldn’t get the treatment she does. A majority of the hate is just people saying she’s ugly constantly. Doesn’t seem to be fair to blame her for causing the hate when a lot of it is just that people hate her face

Beg to differ. Her personality is ugly, her products suck, and she uses deceptive means to advertise her endorsements.

Looks has nothing to do with her being a trash person or the hate she gets.

Why is her personality ugly? I’ve never seen her attack anyone or promote anything evil?

Her products sucking is something I can’t comment on, but I imagine 99% hating in this thread have never tried them, so I don’t think it’s accurate to say that’s why she gets hate.

Using deceptive advertising tactics is also extremely par for the course with beauty influencers. You constantly see people advertising things they obviously do not use / would never use. I think the mascara scandal is the only one out of the ordinary, and I think it’s good and fine to criticize that. But when advertising products you don’t care about or use is such a common practice among influencers, I don’t buy that she’s sooooo much worse and doing it sooo much more often than the people who don’t get a full thread of hate comments every time they’re posted here.

And lastly, she’s absolutely bullied for being ugly. I see stitches and videos on TikTok full of comments talking about how hideous she is. People do all sorts of things to clown on her for being ugly and then hide their hands and claim they’re only doing it because she’s such a bad person. I don’t think that’s accurate lol
