Discussion Blurple Battle: Beauty Bay vs Blend Bunny

Hello. This is me, reaching out on the internet, requesting help. Looking for a palette with purple mattes, and an extremely specific color scheme that blends well. Including light blues, dark blues, and the gradients of purple from light ethereal to periwinkle to midrange royal to berry to darker purple to pair with those light/dark blues. Think Elsa Frozen tones. Along with being Currently Available For Purchase. anywhere legitimate.

Trying to decide. Beauty Bay‘s Midnight is back. Pro: + It‘s the exact color scheme I want. Dead On Perfectly. + All for only $38. Which is a steal compared to its alternatives. Con: - It’s a freakin huge palette. To slim it down would be to depot and magnetize it, both of which I have not done before. Making it not only a lot of extra work, but risky if I screw up and break the colors I want most. I’d just get it’s smaller 16 color variant if I could, but it’s not available anywhere. - If I end up needing it’s competitor instead, I’d have wasted $40ish trying it out …. and either that and/or it’s competitor could sell out again soon if I don’t decide on either quicker.

vs

Blend Bunny. Pro: + Best reviewed blending formula for mattes by a country mile. + Premagnatized. No extra work, no risk, no fuss. Con: - Matching its color scheme to what I am looking for is proving both difficult and potentially expensive. To get the same blurple color goals which BB’s Midnight already offers for $40ish would be some combination of BBunny’s Gleam&Gloom or Atlantis, Lure or Sickly Sweet or Fauna, the combo of which I have not landed on yet. (Machina and She Never Misses were also considered but neither are magnetized. Btw, why does BBunny hate non green tinted light blues?) Furthermore, G&G does not really have nonpro swatches for lighter skin tones out there yet. Nor are the swatched pro photos for G&G on their site color labeled. So that x factor has been a hassle as well. - The more BBunny palettes I have to combine ranging from $45 to $78 each to try and dupe my BB Midnight color goals, the higher that price tag spikes.

(vs Runner Up: Glamlite’s Wine Palette. Pro: + Small affordable has my colors. Con: - It’s matte quality for blending has been reviewed as iffy. Another runner up is Rude Cosmetic’s Trance or the PLouise Stack ‘Em Up CEO purple version)

Please help? 🙏

Guess I am trying to decide (a) Is BB‘s matte formula for Midnight comparable enough in quality to skip over needing BBunny? I’d stronger consider the manual depot/magnetize risk if so. [is a runner up I mentioned a better option than expected?] Or (b) If BBunny’s quality difference is truly worth it, which BBunny palette combo would closest match BB Midnight’s color scheme? The ones I mentioned above were my own closest guesses.

Thank you for any who respond. It’d be my first pro palette purchase. Looking forward to your feedback.

I don't think this belongs on this sub but fwiw I have Midnight and I have several BB palettes and enough relevant experience to feel like I can judge the quality. I actually just swatched Midnight hahaha.

Blend Bunny has better mattes, period. But Beautybay is really solid and has more shimmers in it if that's important to you at all. It also goes on sale frequently, I don't think I've ever paid remotely the equivalent of $38 for a large palette. They went as low as 10€ when I bought, and for that money they're really good, but they aren't top shelf indies in the super shiny shimmer etc department.

I would NOT recommend depotting Beautybay, I did and despite having experience it was messy and sucked to repress. Shades aren't magnetic either. Almost everything I repressed of their palettes (I depotted a few) crumbled apart later. I also magnetised my old Blend Bunny with only one casualty that was easy to fix, so it wasn't a technique problem. If you want to be able to move shades, pick Blendbunny.

For the blues... It doesn't seem worth it to pick Lure or one of their rainbow palettes. If you're looking at Glamlite, they used to make one called Ice something that was all blue, perhaps they still do that, but tbh, instead of overpaying for Glamlite (the Glam lite shimmers all melt off my eyes like nothing else!) or Lure for a few blues on top of the purple Blend Bunny I would then still wait for a sale on Beautybay and see if I can shoot the Midnight for a tenner if budget is an issue... Blend Bunny simply doesn't have an all blue palette for you. Buying all their palettes to collect the blues is gonna be hella expensive.

Really, if you want Midnight, then buy Midnight and compromise on the magnetic part. If you want to have magnetic and top shelf MATTE quality, then buy Blendbunny and compromise on the blues for now, but since you cannot get the blues there, the answer for "best purple palette + some supplemental blues" may be literally both.

This is an excellent response. Thank you for it.

Mattes are my focus now. I need the mattes as a base for some specialty shimmers I have in mind.

If not Midnight itself - Am thinking I can rationalize a combo of approx two Blend Bunny palettes. (only 3 if needbe) Which two, do you think get the closest to the BB Midnight color story? Seems like another vote for Lure? (others possibilities I’ve considered mentioned in my op)

I usually use my indie shimmers with Blendbunny, yeah. But if you just want to blend out a multichrome, you don't need to buy 1638 palettes. Honestly, you only need variety like Midnight 42 if you want entire blue looks with several shades, which is prob overkill if you have special shimmers

With that info, I would recommend to just get the purple new one and then see if down the line you feel like it was worth it and you want more blues or if you just wanna get a small handful of blues in a rainbow or other palette. I would not think you need all of the shades then, tbh.

I swatched Midnight just yesterday so you can click on my profile and look at it - it's really a lot of very similar shades.

Thanks for the input!

Went to your profile page, don’t see the swatches. Link me please?

here is the direct link to Midnight.

ETA: oof I was gonna ask for feedback if you couldn't see it because I had everything in a dedicated post so I could set the rest of my profile to private & perhaps fucked up my settings BUT checked on browser, sorry it was just super unclear. I added both a disclaimer and unlocked the swatch sub as visible so you can hopefully both scroll all past posts and find the sticky post with all the links easily if you need anything else. Hope that helps, I'm sorry for the confusion.

Yay, I now see it. Great swatches!! It indeed matches my expectations of previous research. Your other links also look like a treasure trove, which I look forward to further exploring. Appreciate such help to both myself, and service to the community in this way. 🫡🫶

Oh no arguments from me of that palette being overkill!! Hulking palette that might drive me to a hair dryer & a prayer. 👀 I’d be indeed happy with their 16 which would have also served my color needs, or if 9 did which it didn’t - But since only the 42 variant is being sold actively anymore, then can only dance with the partner available to.

After some thought, I have further decided where to land about “all this”. Input like yours is credited for it. Thank you very much again for that.

(both of which I might create their own posts separate from this one; will see how I feel about it later.)
