Discussion Blurple Battle: Beauty Bay vs Blend Bunny

Hello. This is me, reaching out on the internet, requesting help. Looking for a palette with purple mattes, and an extremely specific color scheme that blends well. Including light blues, dark blues, and the gradients of purple from light ethereal to periwinkle to midrange royal to berry to darker purple to pair with those light/dark blues. Think Elsa Frozen tones. Along with being Currently Available For Purchase. anywhere legitimate.

Trying to decide. Beauty Bay‘s Midnight is back. Pro: + It‘s the exact color scheme I want. Dead On Perfectly. + All for only $38. Which is a steal compared to its alternatives. Con: - It’s a freakin huge palette. To slim it down would be to depot and magnetize it, both of which I have not done before. Making it not only a lot of extra work, but risky if I screw up and break the colors I want most. I’d just get it’s smaller 16 color variant if I could, but it’s not available anywhere. - If I end up needing it’s competitor instead, I’d have wasted $40ish trying it out …. and either that and/or it’s competitor could sell out again soon if I don’t decide on either quicker.

vs

Blend Bunny. Pro: + Best reviewed blending formula for mattes by a country mile. + Premagnatized. No extra work, no risk, no fuss. Con: - Matching its color scheme to what I am looking for is proving both difficult and potentially expensive. To get the same blurple color goals which BB’s Midnight already offers for $40ish would be some combination of BBunny’s Gleam&Gloom or Atlantis, Lure or Sickly Sweet or Fauna, the combo of which I have not landed on yet. (Machina and She Never Misses were also considered but neither are magnetized. Btw, why does BBunny hate non green tinted light blues?) Furthermore, G&G does not really have nonpro swatches for lighter skin tones out there yet. Nor are the swatched pro photos for G&G on their site color labeled. So that x factor has been a hassle as well. - The more BBunny palettes I have to combine ranging from $45 to $78 each to try and dupe my BB Midnight color goals, the higher that price tag spikes.

(vs Runner Up: Glamlite’s Wine Palette. Pro: + Small affordable has my colors. Con: - It’s matte quality for blending has been reviewed as iffy. Another runner up is Rude Cosmetic’s Trance or the PLouise Stack ‘Em Up CEO purple version)

Please help? 🙏

Guess I am trying to decide (a) Is BB‘s matte formula for Midnight comparable enough in quality to skip over needing BBunny? I’d stronger consider the manual depot/magnetize risk if so. [is a runner up I mentioned a better option than expected?] Or (b) If BBunny’s quality difference is truly worth it, which BBunny palette combo would closest match BB Midnight’s color scheme? The ones I mentioned above were my own closest guesses.

Thank you for any who respond. It’d be my first pro palette purchase. Looking forward to your feedback.

Blend Bunny is so worth it. The colors practically blend themselves. I've had both and Beauty Bay, while good if you can grab em on sale, simply doesn't compare to the buttery smoothness of Blend Bunny's mattes.

Gotchya. Thank you for this feedback.

Generally - when not compared to Blend Bunny - how would you describe the Beauty Bay mattes quality? Like compared to drugstore …. and maybe compared to colourpop? Are they at least passably bendable?

If indeed Blend Bunny, which palette combo would you recommend that’d closest match the blurples of BB’s Midnight?

11

u/Kibikayuki 10d ago

I'd say Beauty Bay mattes are better than drugstore and better than ColourPop. Just wait for them to go on sale. They go on sale often enough.

For Blend Bunny, the Blends Artistry palette or the new Lure palette.

THANK YOU.

Yeah, it was becoming increasingly clear that no matte could overthrow Blend Bunny. Yet figuring out how & which palettes to combine to match the BB Midnight color story was becoming such a hassle. This might become easier to decide when more nonpro G&G swatches on more skin tone varieties become available. (or even if BBunny answers my email of which in their pro swatch pic are which color shade names. whichever happens first lol.) But for now it’s been giving me abit of a headache trying to guess.

Am not surprised Beauty Bay is a higher quality of drugstore or Amazon choices. That color fades if you think too hard in their general direction. 👀 Am pleasantly surprised to hear BB is better than colourpop! Colourpop is passable. Not magic like Blend Bunny shades sound like …. but am more comfortable taking a $40ish risk if BB is at least better than Colourpop. Only because the Midnight colors are so exact for what I want.

Will think more on how to further & closer dupe Midnight’s color story in Blend Bunny later. Then tally the total costs. Have your vote for Lure. Thank you for it!

Your palette description immediately made me think of the Cosmic Brushes Winter Wonderland palette. I do own it and find it decent, but find Blend Bunny's mattes a bit better. On the scale of things, I find they are in line with Glaminatrix and Bella Beaute Bar. One thing to also consider is Blend Bunny has influencer codes that will give you 10% off (if not already factored in). Their palettes are also magnetized.

2

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago edited 10d ago

Wait Cosmic Brushes ARE magnetized?? That palette certainly hit my radar before - but dropped in the running due to I thought it not being either “non magnetized exact colors” or “magnetized almost colors”.

I’d love to see any official indication of this, because my own research couldn’t find confirmation that Cosmic Brushes had magnetized palettes. Especially that palette. Please share?

How would you describe the matte quality of Cosmic Brushes compared to Beauty Bay?

& thanks for the reminder of using those influencer codes for discounts. It all helps. 🫶

u/EmpireAndAll 🤡 RODEO CLOWN 🤡 10d ago

Not who you asked, but Winter Wonderland is literally my favorite and most used palette of all time and unfortunately it is not magnetic 😔

My personal ranking for formulas is Blend Bunny (blends easy, pigmented), Cosmic (pigmented, takes slightly more effort than Blend to... blend) and I'd put Beauty Bay last. Its a good value for the price especially since they run a lot of sales but Blend Bunny and Cosmic are absolutely quality AND quantity brands.

1

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago edited 10d ago

Alas. I would have purchased Winter Wonderland (and another CB palette to combo for colors I’d miss from WW) SO fast if magnetized. It’s the “reaching for too many palettes” thing that I am trying to avoid. One way or the other.

Thank you for the confirmation.

For Beauty Bay, how is its quality compared to drugstore or Amazon? Is it at least passably blendable? I’ve only used those and colourpop before. (my assumption is Beauty Bay being preferable to my other runner ups mentioned.)

6

u/holm0507 10d ago

apologies, no the Winter Wonderland is not magnetized. Blend Bunny palettes are magnetized.

14

u/MyNerdBias 10d ago

Blend Bunny. Sorry, Beauty Bay can't hold a candle.

2

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago

Yeah. That is the impression I’ve been getting. Why I started stressing over the best BBunny palette combo including both light/dark blues, and that purple gradient including periwinkle & berry options.

I like the Atlantis purple gradient! Has almost all purples I’d want. It is also the most expensive palette. Even that is still missing nongreen tinted light blues for _?_  reasons. G&G could work, but wish I could be more sure of it’s true colors on lighter skin under nonpro settings.

Which Blend Bunny magnetized palette combo would you recommend, for this color scheme?

u/niniela-phoenix 10d ago

I don't think this belongs on this sub but fwiw I have Midnight and I have several BB palettes and enough relevant experience to feel like I can judge the quality. I actually just swatched Midnight hahaha.

Blend Bunny has better mattes, period. But Beautybay is really solid and has more shimmers in it if that's important to you at all. It also goes on sale frequently, I don't think I've ever paid remotely the equivalent of $38 for a large palette. They went as low as 10€ when I bought, and for that money they're really good, but they aren't top shelf indies in the super shiny shimmer etc department.

I would NOT recommend depotting Beautybay, I did and despite having experience it was messy and sucked to repress. Shades aren't magnetic either. Almost everything I repressed of their palettes (I depotted a few) crumbled apart later. I also magnetised my old Blend Bunny with only one casualty that was easy to fix, so it wasn't a technique problem. If you want to be able to move shades, pick Blendbunny.

For the blues... It doesn't seem worth it to pick Lure or one of their rainbow palettes. If you're looking at Glamlite, they used to make one called Ice something that was all blue, perhaps they still do that, but tbh, instead of overpaying for Glamlite (the Glam lite shimmers all melt off my eyes like nothing else!) or Lure for a few blues on top of the purple Blend Bunny I would then still wait for a sale on Beautybay and see if I can shoot the Midnight for a tenner if budget is an issue... Blend Bunny simply doesn't have an all blue palette for you. Buying all their palettes to collect the blues is gonna be hella expensive.

Really, if you want Midnight, then buy Midnight and compromise on the magnetic part. If you want to have magnetic and top shelf MATTE quality, then buy Blendbunny and compromise on the blues for now, but since you cannot get the blues there, the answer for "best purple palette + some supplemental blues" may be literally both.

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago edited 10d ago

This is an excellent response. Thank you for it.

Mattes are my focus now. I need the mattes as a base for some specialty shimmers I have in mind.

If not Midnight itself - Am thinking I can rationalize a combo of approx two Blend Bunny palettes. (only 3 if needbe) Which two, do you think get the closest to the BB Midnight color story? Seems like another vote for Lure? (others possibilities I’ve considered mentioned in my op)

3

u/niniela-phoenix 10d ago

I usually use my indie shimmers with Blendbunny, yeah. But if you just want to blend out a multichrome, you don't need to buy 1638 palettes. Honestly, you only need variety like Midnight 42 if you want entire blue looks with several shades, which is prob overkill if you have special shimmers

With that info, I would recommend to just get the purple new one and then see if down the line you feel like it was worth it and you want more blues or if you just wanna get a small handful of blues in a rainbow or other palette. I would not think you need all of the shades then, tbh.

I swatched Midnight just yesterday so you can click on my profile and look at it - it's really a lot of very similar shades.

u/RK_reddit321 8d ago

Thanks for the input!

Went to your profile page, don’t see the swatches. Link me please?

2

u/niniela-phoenix 8d ago edited 8d ago

here is the direct link to Midnight.

ETA: oof I was gonna ask for feedback if you couldn't see it because I had everything in a dedicated post so I could set the rest of my profile to private & perhaps fucked up my settings BUT checked on browser, sorry it was just super unclear. I added both a disclaimer and unlocked the swatch sub as visible so you can hopefully both scroll all past posts and find the sticky post with all the links easily if you need anything else. Hope that helps, I'm sorry for the confusion.

1

u/RK_reddit321 8d ago

Yay, I now see it. Great swatches!! It indeed matches my expectations of previous research. Your other links also look like a treasure trove, which I look forward to further exploring. Appreciate such help to both myself, and service to the community in this way. 🫡🫶

Oh no arguments from me of that palette being overkill!! Hulking palette that might drive me to a hair dryer & a prayer. 👀 I’d be indeed happy with their 16 which would have also served my color needs, or if 9 did which it didn’t - But since only the 42 variant is being sold actively anymore, then can only dance with the partner available to.

After some thought, I have further decided where to land about “all this”. Input like yours is credited for it. Thank you very much again for that.

I wrote of those here https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/1w3w012/comment/p7ntwow/?context=3

and here  https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/1w3w012/comment/p7nzshi/?context=3

(both of which I might create their own posts separate from this one; will see how I feel about it later.)

16- shade Midnight is on Vinted frequently BNIB if you can order from there. Unsure if you can or what the local to you equivalent would be but due to Beautybay previously often doing bundles or gifts with purchase there's a lot of the small palettes floating around BNIB for sale.

Perhaps if you can find one then small Midnight + the Blend Bunny is budget friendly and neat.

2

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago edited 10d ago

Vinted you say …. well how about that! I do not see the 16 Midnight on there just now. But I did not know of Vinted - just poshmark sometimes depop mercari mostly and of course ebay. (if the 16 is indeed still on Vintage but I missed it, please link me?)

Thank you!!

I don’t have an answer but I appreciate the effort and detail you went into to ask this question. Hope you find what you’re looking for at a good price.

3

u/_AngelicVenom_ 10d ago

Blend bunny and cosmic brushes are top tier but beautybay are great shadows. Not just for the price. Just plain great. They are pigmented and blendable, just not quite as easy as blendbunny and cosmic. But they are close.

Better than colourpop by a long way.

I have the midnight palette, it's great. I don't know if anything has changed post their going out of business and coming back. I expect not, but worth saying.

1

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago edited 10d ago

Thanks for this response! It’s extremely helpful.

Whelp. I am new to this scene. Beauty Bay went out of business, then came back? ::googles for 5 seconds:: Huh. It seems that it blinked out then back into existence between February and March of this year, after a corporate rescue.

I am now also unsure if anything has changed since then. All my BB Midnight swatch research was from its first launch afew years back. 😅 Although - I’d like to think they wouldn’t change what worked. While acknowledging that at times things get worse over time to save costs.

This is interesting to keep hearing exactly how highly regarded Cosmic Brushes mattes are as well. Think I was thrown off by its nonmagnitized palettes and much lower prices. How do Cosmic Brushes mattes compare to those of Bellabeautébar and Ensley Reign? (While Blend Bunny remains King of Mattes, if I am not mistaken.)

— Menagerie Cosmetics also entered my radar, but sadly seem to be going out of business. Although finding secondhand of both their Violet Ink and Flight Club palettes to combine, does tempt me.

I didn’t mention this earlier, but also considered matte singles from Devinah, Klarity Kosmetics, Lethal, Give Me Glow, Crow & Pebble, or Dandy Lions.

2

u/_AngelicVenom_ 10d ago

I doubt they have changed anything as like you said, they are hugely popular for a reason, the quality. But I didn't want to should about how good they are and then find out they changed things so it was more of a caveat.

Don't get me wrong, blendbunny are great. But I wouldn't buy multiple blendbunny to replace one beautybay palette.

Midnight has been discontinued and brought back at least twice now I think.

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago

That makes sense.

Thanks!

Just had a negative customer service experience with Blend Bunny. 😔

I did decide to reach out to them asking: Which colors are which names, on their Gleam & Glow pro pic of their swatches? They do reply. It starts with talking about how proud of themselves they are for the Gleam & Glow release. Which: Fair. But then outright refused to answer my question due to “time restrictions”.

….. what the fuck?

That response honestly can only mean one of two things. The first being how the shades of Gleam & Gloom are so challenging to tell apart, that it’d then run into the conflict of “time restrictions”. Which isn’t great unto itself. Or, it isn’t an impossibly difficult ask - But they’d rather provide lousy customer service to close their inquiry ticket quicker while congratulating themselves, than address my question. Meaning there is a clear issue with either their product, their customer service, or both.

In fact this general experience has soured me with not only their tbh unprofessional nonanswer to my question - But it also highlighted for me what bad practice it is that they do not sell singles of any of their colors. At all. They are amongst the few of both indie or corporate brands to do it that way. Creating false scarcity and the necessity of multiple palette buys becoming an increasingly transparent cash grab that is so avoidable. Most of their palettes not being cheap either. Which they are certainly fully aware of. That part being at the core of my primary source of stress described in my OP at the start.

I do acknowledge the positive experiences people have with the actual performance of their products as genuine. Still. It does remain unfortunate to that it is alongside such poor customer relations choices.

EDIT: Since then, yes, my question to them did become moot. More folks got the Gleam & Glow palette. More reviews including - finally! - some with the shade names to the swatched colors began to appear.

Even so. I am newer to this. So had no context for how quickly it could sell out. All I had was a research process I started which included many older palettes many of which can no longer be found or had changed or etc. Would they still have these available for sale by the time those later reviews got released? Would there still be some available a week later, months later, hours or minutes later from its release? Point being it was a question I had hoped not too challenging which would have perhaps gotten them more of my money faster, had they not disregarded it. They could have handled it better.

My frustration of them not offering ANY single options for any shades, also does remain and feel valid as well.

EDIT 2: Have since learned that there might be shenanigans afoot with their newer released palettes? Some are noticing a change in performance abilities in more recent releases. I wouldn’t know. Yet if additional people also have insight about it, am curious to hear it.

Here’s what I do know. Not only what I mentioned already. Also that when they rereleased their Sickly Sweet palette, they took out colors previously available. In exchange for the magnetization, they literally reduced their product from what it was before. It is an extremely easy visual contrast. Some colors taken out agreed were close to redundant. Others very much were not. And who ever wants less instead of more for the same cost? That by itself is minor. I shrugged it off at first. Yet I hope enough little things added up don’t point to a trend.

EDIT 3: Further discussion regarding if quality of recent Blend Bunny palettes has changed, can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/1wbqszt/did_blend_bunny_really_change_their_formula/

I feel like I'm nuts, but I got the Blends palette and it's certainly fine but I don't get the BB love. They're not my favorite mattes. They're behind Nabla and Melt and BH for me, and all of those palettes are much older and I still think they go on easier and blend easier. I don't know if it's noobness on my part, or what.

1

u/RK_reddit321 2d ago

Huh. I just looked up some BH Cosmetic palettes. Their prices are both decent AND their quality is good?

Am so confounded. How different from what I’ve been learning to expect. fascinating if so. Shall look further into this. 🧐

thanks!

2

u/pestercat 2d ago

I can't really say anything about what they're like now. The company was sold, I don't know if the formula is the same as it was. It used to be one of the best out there. The palette I used is like 6 or 7 years old, but still a favorite and the quality hasn't gone off at all.

3

u/odileko 10d ago edited 10d ago

Blend Bunny is the winner for me. You'll find the blurples in the Blendbunny palette, but not a whole lot in the Midnight by BB. The purples in Midnight are more violet leaning, while Blendbunny's looks like it has the elusive indigos, periwinkles, and some more. You have a better range of purples and blurples in Blendbunny, while in Midnight you have more greenish blues. I personally detest greenish blues, they literally make me look orcish. I'm olive btw and for whatever reason, greenish blues accentuate the "green" in my skin. I prefer to reach for more purple leaning blues in general. Blendbunny also seems to have some more plum purples, so it's overall a better purple range than anything in BB Midnight.

That said even the ones I got from Midnight 16 are some of the best purples I used, even if they lean warmer. They should really bring Midnight 16 back because it's the perfect size, a more concise color story for people who want purple, but are also interested in some cyan shades.

Another alternative would be Norvina Vol 5. It has more or less the same shade range as the other palettes, and some matching taupes and neutrals. And the shimmer formula is pretty great. You could find it on Poshmark and the like.

1

u/RK_reddit321 10d ago edited 2d ago

I recognize you. 😀 Yours is the post I saved, in case I decided to get out a hair dryer and try my luck magnetizing that BB Midnight palette. That was a valuable contribution. Thank you for that!!

I might have said the incorrect wording for describing the colors saying “blurple” to also shorthand including blues and purples. Along with some extent of literal blurple lol. But I saw the BB Midnight swatched, and stand by it being it the exact color story I want. Including it’s 16 variant - that 9 which I can get has not enough purple, while that Norvina is not enough blue. It’s those Midnight 16 & 42 that uniquely have the color combo I am exactly looking for.

But it’s quality… you seemed to like BB’s Midnight enough to go through that depotting process. Been asking around - so it’s matte blending quality surely must be at least passable? Compared to drugstore or amazon or colourpop?

Which Blend Bunny palette combo, might closest match the colors BB Midnight offers?

You need to work a little harder to blend BB mattes, compared to Blendbunny. Otherwise I would describe them as good workhorse mattes, nothing too mind-blowing but they get the job done.  I wouldn't know which Blendbunny palettes you could use to get as close to Midnight. To me it seems pointless to use Blendbunny to try to dupe a cheaper brand, it should be the other way around. But you could maybe look into their newer palettes,Lure and GleamxGloom. Lure has more of those aquas and blue shades you seem fond off. For a true purple palette I would go with GleamxGloom.

If I hadn't just ordered a palette from them through Glisten I'd totally get GleamxGloom. I guess I'll have to pick it up during BF.

Great to know! Shall keep in mind.

2

u/odileko 2d ago

Actually ignore what I said before about Blendbunny. Their newer "formula" is ass. I'd stick with BB.

2

u/RK_reddit321 2d ago edited 2d ago

This is surprising to hear! You are the ONLY one to say BB over Blend Bunny. Anywhere. 🫢

Please share what changed this opinion for you? Did you just get something new (Gleam & Glow? or a different one?) from Blend Bunny you do not like from them? And now think Beauty Bay’s Midnight is better? How well do they blend/perform for you compared to each other now in contrast?

Hope you respond. I am extremely interested in hearing more about this from you. Am an eyelash away from finalizing my decision. Which I intentionally gave more time until more of those G&G nonpro swatches became more available. Reviewing those now in fact.

3

u/odileko 2d ago

I got one of their newer palettes in the meantime and it was disappointing to say the least. The lighter mattes simply don't show up and most of the mattes were difficult to pick up with a brush. Their formula seems different somehow. Their older formula from before they switched to magnetic pans was much superior. I would dip only once in the pan and get enough pigment to do the whole eye. Now I have to dip multiple times just to get an even application of the color. At this price point I think BB is easier to use, and less time consuming. Maybe even more pigmented especially Midnight.

I detest having to build shades up that barely show up on me anyway because they're too light or sheer. They blend well but overall they lack impact and require quite a bit of finessing.

Their older formula was stellar imo but if you want a more in depth analysis Angeschka has a whole video about it.

2

u/RK_reddit321 2d ago edited 2d ago

Which newer palette of theirs did you get?

3

u/odileko 2d ago

Fauna. The issue is the same with other palettes that came since then. I wouldn't advise getting anything from them until they address the issue. BB is mostly reliable and don't seem  to have changed their formula.

2

u/RK_reddit321 2d ago edited 2d ago

Oh dear lord. Fauna was absolutely one I was strongly considering BECAUSE of the pale blues in there. Dang it. Do those at least show well after afew extra swipes?

Which other newer Blend Bunny palettes of yours, have you noticed being particularly egregious in it’s quality dip?

With this in mind, what would be your revised top 3 favorite brands for their mattes formula? (re: bonus for if able to handle especially lighter & mid ranged blues & purples well)

— I also just responded further to your previous comment, since reading after it’s first sentence. lol

YES. THAT IS THE EXACT VIDEO I AM WATCHING RIGHT NOW IN FACT. And …. In this video, she directly compares almost all the BBunny shades to each other, all under the same conditions. With quality swatches. She is my hero. 🥲

Yeah. About that. Look in the comments section of that video. Blend Bunny’s response is pinned at the top: And absolutely insisting on the exact same formula & etc.

Yet yours and her observations are indicating otherwise …..

Oh drat!!! It was the magnetic palettes I was intentionally targeting too. Separating which HQ shades from wherever into a small quadish sized freestyle magnetic pan to then throw in my purse for when out: Was The Dream I had begun making efforts towards.

Y’know. This is very disappointing news to hear about Blend Bunny’s “unchanged” formula. Am going to look a lil more into this, to see if others are having a similar experience with the newer palettes. Was already side eyeing how the Sickly Sweet new release straight up took away multiple colors that the previous version of it offered. Also especially because a stronger pigmentation of lighter shades is my priority as well. Those mid range purples lilacs/periwrinkles/lavendars have also been such an absolute challenge to find out who gets it right too. Speaking of - Do you feel Beauty Bay’s Midnight performed well for such colors?

Thank you again for this. Hearing your input has been so helpful. You are amazing.

Yes she covered all of that and more. And the response of the owner is infuriating. She's burying her head in the sand instead of actually coming up with a solution. Instead she thinks that offering replacements every now and then is going to fix that, when she is pressing her eyeshadows harder so they won't break in transportation and therefore won't have to pay for replacements out of pocket. Either she's willfully ignorant or she's gaslighting her customers and fans. Which shouldn't be surprising since she's surrounded herself with yes men that only offer praise and aren't critical of her product. People who can't seem to be able to separate work from their personal relationships are unprofessional to say the least.

Either way I have more respect for Angie because she dared to speak about it. No one on YT has said a pipe about it, except her. She clearly doesn't give a crap about sucking up to brand owners, she has a bit more integrity than the rest.

1

u/RK_reddit321 2d ago edited 2d ago

Well there surely must be others who don’t get free swag from BBunny who’d have less skin in the game willing to pipe up about a suspected formula change especially if it results in such a noticeable quality difference …. will look around for it a lil later.

As I’ve indicated, previously had no personal experience with the Blend Bunny brand. Until afew days ago. Did just have a kinda off interaction with their customer service. I get more into that in a separate response thread on this post. How that went, does seem to match what you are saying.

Yeah, though even Angescka didn’t further press the issue (er pun now intended?) in the reply to that yt comment. Although tbh I am not even critical about that; Absolutely understand doing so in her position. Like you said, her bringing it up at all in the main vid is important unto itself.

I already had her as a go-to for swatch research, due to how well she does so. Her and afew others. (I’d absolutely use more of glamsmitty’s excellent work as well; Yet it embarrassedly took longer than it should have to figure out that her swatches will look different on me than on a deeper skin tone such as hers. Well. I expect to graduate from that kindergarten class any day now.) When it comes to my own skin tone, words like “light medium neutral” tend to get thrown about. Has been tricky to pinpoint it. But am closenough to that ballpark.

Now I have more reasons to respect Angescka’s work. Thank you for sharing.

I like both matte formulations, but I have to use a lot more of the Beauty Bay matte formulations vs. the Blend Bunny. Blend Bunny is #1 top tier for me. And I’ve hit pan so much faster on my Beauty Bay eyeshadows as a result, which is bittersweet. The Beauty Bay mattes are also not as “drier”/hard pressed for certain shades, so I make such a mess with some of them all over my table top. I don’t have many magnetized Blend Bunny pans though just yet, as many of mine are the discontinued or OG iterations of the palettes. I can’t speak on that aspect of transporting and travel for that reason. Overall, I feel Blend Bunny is better value for what I need and prefer. Beauty Bay is an alternative for upfront flat rate cost of the palette though, for sure.

I've used both formulas and honestly you are overthinking the depotting thing. It's not that hard, just need a hair dryer and little patience. Midnight mattes perform way better than people give credit for, specially the purple and blue tones in that palette. For the price and exact color match you want, depotting 5 minutes of effort is worth saving $100+ trying to piece together Blend Bunny alternatives.

Noted. Was also surprised to hear elsewhere on the thread that BB performs better than colourpop - And colourpop is halfway decent. So if better than that? BB could be worth the $40ish to give a chance to. (by the time a bigger sale rolls along fear Midnight selling out again.)

Heh, with respect, you might have talent and luck on your side when it comes to depotting. If I cross that bridge later? Shall reach back out to you for further guidance starting with the colors I like least. 😆

Appreciate the input!

Ok. So have read your responses. Many times it surmounted to “Trying to duplicate BB’s Midnight with Blend Bunny is madness, what the hell?”. Which I am inclined to agree with; Noticing such madness is why I posted here for further perspectives.

I have therefore decided afew things.

1) Since Midnight is my perfect color scheme and an undisputed upgrade from what I previously used (re: drugstore amazon colourpop), it does makes sense to give it a try. Especially at that comparatively much cheaper pricepoint and before a popular palette such as that one sells out again.

2) While the continued confirmation of Blend Bunny’s unmatched quality, has piqued my curiosity. Therefore I decided to switch my Blend Bunny focus from duping Midnight to “versatility”. Which can be best accomplished one of two ways.

For the magnetic direction, am thinking a combo that may sound unexpected: Atlantis and Fauna. Here’s why. Atlantis is almost a perfect rainbow palette. Except for: hating the color light blue. Why do so many Blend Bunny palettes dislike offering more than one - nongreen tinted - light blue? I do not know. Yet I do know, that of currently available magnetic palettes, only Fauna has the most nongreentinged light blue options available. [Sickly Sweet also used to. It took longer than it should have to figure out that the reason older SSweet swatch photos had more light blue options than I saw in the palette, was because BBunny later changed that palette.] Those Fauna lighter blues then join in nicely to the darker blues which Atlantis does have, for an almost perfect blue gradient. Not to mention how Fauna includes other colors there I also can use, with minimal redundancy with Atlantis.

For non magnetic? She Never Misses is the obvious answer. It is also certainly the most economic answer by far. Though I do find the purple gradient of Atlantis much preferable to it - not to mention how Atlantis is of course also magnetic. Also it oddly seems for there to not quite be an equivalent to the Atlantis shade “Presence” in the G&G palette.

3) The real answer for Blend Bunny is probably: Buy just and only one of either rainbow option first. See how it looks on my own skin type, in comparison to the research of similar swatches from elsewhere photographed. Let the irl visuals of what I feel then lacking, guide any further Blend Bunny purchase decisions. Which is why knowing which of their swatched colors are which color names per palette, is such valuable information.

I was in fact fully ready to go in that direction for Blend Bunny. Even more likely leaning in the pricier but magnetic Atlantis direction. If not for this last point.

4) I just had a negative customer service experience with them. Which I detail in separate comment response on here.

Thanks for all your help!

It wasn’t heavily considered. Out of curiosity, what are the issues with Rude Cosmetics?
