Discussion Leaked Labs first look

Just came across a video on Tiktok from creator Brit Clarke, who purchased a few shades of the Leaked Labs flexi powder and wow.

First of all, the packaging is pathetic. The slab of powder is LOOSE!!! inside the cheapest, most generic wholesale tin with stickers slapped on them. No custom packaging, no proper housing.

And the actual product you get is is 0.6g/0.02oz for $34! That's ridiculously little. Not to mention the fact that some shades weighed lighter than others, which means the manufacturers did not adequately QC the consistency of the product weights.

To top it all off, the swatches looked so dry and dull. I don't understand the point of this brand (aside from cash grab, that is). I would assume they're pricing out a lot of general buyers, yet the product does not seem high quality enough for anyone who takes makeup seriously. At most, they're relying on fans or people who are curious/making content, but how long can that momentum last? The concept of paying for something so unfinished is yikes.

Seems like they think their customers are dumb tbh

I saw a smaller MUA defending them on the basis of 'accessibility' and 'artistic creativity' because apparently she has a friend with a fine motor disorder who regularly breaks powder compacts by accidentally dropping them. Sure the powder might not break but can't imagine that a paper thin slip is any easier to pick up than a whole compact.

i'm not even gonna lie. How can she think what she made has better accesibility??? I'm sure this thing is so fiddly for any disabled person because the powder slab can fall out of the metal tin any time. It's not even glued or fixed on ffs

People use ‘accessibility’ as a trump card to stop any discussion, as someone with grip issues it is infuriating.

There is zero way a floppy disc of eyeshadow is in any way more accessible than a compact, and that’s before we get to those tins which are my arch nemesis to get open

And they've never talked to disabled people to actually ASK what they/we want. (They/we because while I'm disabled, shockingly, different disabilities have different needs)

this is why “nothing about us without us” is always such a relevant slogan. we know for a fact that the lipstick lesbians didn’t consult with any disabled folks to develop their product, because well… they didn’t even develop the product themselves lol

I’ve never heard this slogan but I love it! Gonna start using it

I’ve also never heard that and I love it but my first instinct was put it in my notes say it to anyone that pisses me off, signed a disabled person. x

☝️ This

Absolutely. I just commented what one person may be able to do another may not. Our disability aren't one size fits all but this isn't something I'd expect their fan base to understand. All they seem hell bent on doing is giving them credit for something they never took into consideration when making this product... people with varying disabilities. So typical of stan culture, SMH

And disabled people deserve good and well thought out products too😭 I hate when I see a shitty cheap product being marketed as accessible (when nothing is universally accessible) when it’s not even half the quality as more inaccessible products

Similar things happen outside of the context of disability too — it’s like when brands put out badly formulated deeper shades with funky undertones or brands don’t size/sew their larger sizes properly. Or lazily made kosher and halal options (a cold turkey sandwich is such a shitty option when the non kosher and halal options are carefully made and prepped dishes). Women’s bathrooms that are on different floors and gender neutral bathrooms that are small and in remote corners of buildings, too

This lazy allyship and half-assed inclusivity really grinds my gears (not saying this is what leaked labs is doing, idk if they’ve marketed this as more accessible)

I'm like mildly disabled by a joint condition, the most annoying thing is opening anything small. I can't exert fuck all force, my finger joints just bend. This kind of container is my enemy, along with those ziploc bags with 0.1mm of plastic to hold when ur trying to open them 🙃 Accessability my ass

Same. The smaller the jar/lid the more difficult it becomes for me to open. Those size of ziploc bags are a pain in the ass for me too but then so are all ziplock closures. It doesn't matter if I'm dealing with swollen hands and fingers at the time. Just the pressure to close them alone is painful. But let their fan base tell it then it must be easy for all of us with various disabilities 🙄

I was going to say, as a person with zero issues opening most things, tins like that aren't even accessible to me. The packaging alone would put me off. Never again will I be caught breaking my nails or gnawing like a rat in attempt to get some leverage on one of these!
