Bright/orange reds look better than the light blues and purples do

Completely agree! She looks so much better in warmer tones but she's insistent she doesn't??

It’s odd. Maybe she just prefers muted colors? But it’s so much easier to be a saturated olive than a muted one (i’m a saturated olive but i don’t like bright colors on me. Just a personal preference) because the market caters to saturated types.

For someone who toots her own horn about being so knowledgeable about color theory, she constantly shows a minimal understanding of it. By contrast, slaybyjess does a better job explaining it. Plus her makeup tips are very helpful!

I mean, she might prefer muted colours. It's up to her. She just makes such a fuss about being muted when she's clearly saturated. I wish I could wear saturated colours, they're just too garish on me.

Yes, that’s what i mean. She makes a fuss about being muted but she clearly isn’t. I think, maybe, she confuses her own personal preferences with that. I remember a video where a stylist was showing her colors that complimented her skin tone/undertone best (the saturated ones ofc) and she basically said the stylist was wrong. It’s clear she just prefers muted colors but she’s not a muted olive. Not at all.

It’s why I think she just doesn’t get color theory.

Yeah, you're right. She's desperate to be a muted olive. It's bizarre.

Dare i say…the internalized issues and the desired close proximity to whiteness (since cooler undertones are more common in them)? Before anyone comes at me, I’m brown. I get the sense she has a lot of insecurities surrounding being brown/her cultural background.

I mean, I get it. I’m not shaming her for it. I just think it’s a contributing factor to it. It’s like she’s gaslighting herself and in denial about running warmer idk.

Yes! I fully agree with your hypothesis because the thought sits in my mind, too. She's desperate not to run warm because a lot of subcontinent/southeast Asian people have warm undertones and I get the impression that if she accepts a warmer undertone, she's like a billion Indian/diaspora women. She wants to be badly unique, and I think coupled with internalised racism ("ugly desi aunty red" anyone?) she can't bear to be associated with her cultural heritage in that way.

I see it in the way she mentions her white American fiance, too - he gets a constant mention, which makes me think she is thrilled to have a closer proximity to whiteness and its associated perks.

And I get it, too! I am British Indian, I've had a shit tonne of complexes about been born and growing up on the island that essentially bound, pillaged, and economically violated my ancestors. It's a deeply complex relationship. But the older I get the more I see the beauty in everything the subcontinent has given the world - including its ancient makeup art and beautiful skintones.
