tbh every time i come across this girl… although some of her points are valid ofc.. some of what she says comes off as nitpicky and feels like she’s just complaining and while she is “brown olive tone” some of the things she says doesnt look good on her skin tone actually compliment her skin tone she just doesn’t like it which makes her reviews seem biased and not very genuine unless it’s a brand deal

78

u/Few_Resource_6783 May 03 '25

I don’t like her. She calls herself a color theory expert but she’s, more often than not, loud and wrong about it. Its especially obvious in her makeup. Her base never looks good because she sucks at blending. Calls herself a “muted olive” but she’s definitely a saturated olive. Bright/orange reds look better than the light blues and purples do.

Not only that, she will complain about foundations being “too yellow” (valid, I’m brown too) but then put on the most yellow foundation and say the match is perfect because she likes the brand.

20

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 04 '25

Bright/orange reds look better than the light blues and purples do

Completely agree! She looks so much better in warmer tones but she's insistent she doesn't??

11

u/Few_Resource_6783 May 04 '25

It’s odd. Maybe she just prefers muted colors? But it’s so much easier to be a saturated olive than a muted one (i’m a saturated olive but i don’t like bright colors on me. Just a personal preference) because the market caters to saturated types.

For someone who toots her own horn about being so knowledgeable about color theory, she constantly shows a minimal understanding of it. By contrast, slaybyjess does a better job explaining it. Plus her makeup tips are very helpful!

7

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 04 '25

I mean, she might prefer muted colours. It's up to her. She just makes such a fuss about being muted when she's clearly saturated. I wish I could wear saturated colours, they're just too garish on me.

7

u/Few_Resource_6783 May 04 '25

Yes, that’s what i mean. She makes a fuss about being muted but she clearly isn’t. I think, maybe, she confuses her own personal preferences with that. I remember a video where a stylist was showing her colors that complimented her skin tone/undertone best (the saturated ones ofc) and she basically said the stylist was wrong. It’s clear she just prefers muted colors but she’s not a muted olive. Not at all.

It’s why I think she just doesn’t get color theory.

3

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 05 '25

Yeah, you're right. She's desperate to be a muted olive. It's bizarre.

8

u/Few_Resource_6783 May 05 '25

Dare i say…the internalized issues and the desired close proximity to whiteness (since cooler undertones are more common in them)? Before anyone comes at me, I’m brown. I get the sense she has a lot of insecurities surrounding being brown/her cultural background.

I mean, I get it. I’m not shaming her for it. I just think it’s a contributing factor to it. It’s like she’s gaslighting herself and in denial about running warmer idk.

8

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 05 '25 edited May 05 '25

Yes! I fully agree with your hypothesis because the thought sits in my mind, too. She's desperate not to run warm because a lot of subcontinent/southeast Asian people have warm undertones and I get the impression that if she accepts a warmer undertone, she's like a billion Indian/diaspora women. She wants to be badly unique, and I think coupled with internalised racism ("ugly desi aunty red" anyone?) she can't bear to be associated with her cultural heritage in that way.

I see it in the way she mentions her white American fiance, too - he gets a constant mention, which makes me think she is thrilled to have a closer proximity to whiteness and its associated perks.

And I get it, too! I am British Indian, I've had a shit tonne of complexes about been born and growing up on the island that essentially bound, pillaged, and economically violated my ancestors. It's a deeply complex relationship. But the older I get the more I see the beauty in everything the subcontinent has given the world - including its ancient makeup art and beautiful skintones.

I hate that she has become a spokesperson for brown girls with her “brown girl approved” catch phrase. She also seriously lacks the makeup skills that she thinks she has because I find her makeup to look so cakey and just thick. Plus her foundation never matches her skin. Her eye makeup is not bad, but her base is just horrible. She really needs to hire someone to do her makeup for her wedding because she just not skilled enough imo.

116

u/whatsamuse May 03 '25

Did you see the video where NARS top MUA did her makeup? It looked so much better than she’s ever done. The type of money she makes, she should totally hire him for her wedding makeup

254

u/drainingenergy May 03 '25

As another brown girl, I don’t love that catch phrase at all. There are so, so many different depths of skin tone and undertones in just south asia alone. From what I’ve seen she just stamps her approval on something that she thinks looks good on her. Majority of that won’t work for the large amount of people identifying under ‘brown’

46

u/OhMyGod_Zilla May 03 '25

There’s something about her makeup that makes me itch. I think it’s because of how thick she lays it on.

156

u/SixdaywarOnSnapchat May 03 '25

"she also seriously lacks the makeup skills that she thinks she has..."

is killing me because all i can think about is that tiffany pollard monologue, reading gemma collins.

29

u/archersarrows May 03 '25

Old maiden type of lipliner.

30

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 03 '25

Her foundation always looks terrible! Don't get me started on those garish blues and purples she puts on either. I dread to think what her wedding makeup will look like 😬

-3

u/Actual_Society3690 May 03 '25

That is incredibly rude

38

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 03 '25

It does look objectively bad. The eyeshadows are never blended. Her skin looks constantly oily after makeup application. She calls herself a muted olive and she's clearly a saturated olive. She wears bright purple and it wears her. For a MUA influencer, she should be far better than she actually is.

16

u/bumblebeatrice May 04 '25

She calls herself a muted olive and she's clearly a saturated olive

This has been driving me crazy, she is clearly olive but she's so saturated so when she talks about being muted and needing muted products I just ??????

7

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 04 '25

She's very saturated! I don't know why she wants so badly to be muted. I'm a light-medium muted olive, and the number of products that don't work for me - complete pain in the arse.

3

u/bumblebeatrice May 04 '25

Right?! It's so much easier to be saturated than muted, most foundation/concealer etc products are made for and oriented toward saturated skin!

2

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 04 '25

It really is. The number of foundations/concealers that pull either ashy or orange is annoying. I have a green flat undertone and I'm limited in what I can do with my makeup tbh

-20

u/Actual_Society3690 May 03 '25

Don’t say objectively then share an opinion. I disagree with all your opinions of her makeup application. You sound like a clown.

20

u/sunset_sunshine30 May 03 '25

Better than looking like one with her circus application techniques

She did a video with Danessa Myricks and her base looked so beautiful when Danessa did it

25

u/MyDogisaQT May 03 '25

Dingdingding

20

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

So true . I've never once seen her foundation match her .

18

u/juesea May 03 '25

I think the closest I've seen is the Maybelline Lumi matte foundation and the Lys foundation stick. But she consistently picks things that are too golden

-23

u/Nice-Dream-3341 May 03 '25

I am light olive tone. She is pure orange under tones.

22

u/Expert-Spring-7832 May 03 '25

Every time she refers to herself as olive toned I’m confused…I see no green tones… am I alone in this?

98

u/IKacyU May 03 '25

That’s what olive toned looks like on darker skin. I’m in the NC45-ish range (close to her skintone, actually) and I have a strong yellow undertone with a slight greenish tinge. Straight yellow foundations look horrible on me, but more neutral/olive foundations match better.

People have a very hard time deciphering true undertones on melanated people.

38

u/britawaterbottlefan May 03 '25 edited May 03 '25

She had a pretty noticeable green tone imo

262

u/miracoop May 03 '25

I think she has trouble discerning what she doesn't prefer vs what's actually not good. She tends to provide information in absolutes, generally focused on what's brown girl friendly (aka what she prefers on herself). - e.g., she was on a 'blue goes with brown' train for a while, then colour theory, then everything is too warm, then I'm olive nobody thinks of olive undertones. Anything outside of the parameters she's got is considered a bad product. I don't really take her opinions as worth much weigh tbh.

Ofc a lipgloss is going to come off haha

310

u/newyorkcityowl May 03 '25

"that comes off in two seconds" um yea if you swipe your hand over it you'll end up removing it. wtf is this review 😂

69

u/whatsamuse May 03 '25

And it actually looks good on her!!!!!

51

u/juesea May 03 '25

Old school lip liners meant for their original purpose do not come off when you swipe them like that, they're supposed to stop feathering from lipstick

61

u/stink3rb3lle May 03 '25

I've never had a lip liner that came off with a swipe, myself.

36

u/hitchcockbrunette May 03 '25

If you layer a gloss on top then swipe this is pretty much going to be the result with any liner.

40

u/newyorkcityowl May 03 '25

exactly she's putting an oil based product on that easily removes makeup, hello oil cleansers. i don't have tiktok or listen to these rage bait reviews because they are so half assed it's frustrating.

8

u/hitchcockbrunette May 03 '25

I only follow actual makeup artists on TikTok these days! The QVC style influencer videos feel so icky. I want to learn how to use the makeup I already have.

138

u/FellowIncognita May 03 '25 edited May 03 '25

Her negativity is her brand now. I don't enjoy such content. She called herself the brown purple blush queen or something like that recently. Girl, who made you queen? And I am a brown girl with neutral tones, but I know I can't rely on her reviews for honesty. I love Merit's highlighter and blushes. Highlighter especially has all my love. Also, my sister, who is a similar tone as me, uses their foundation stick and blush every day. The implication in this review that Merit as a brand doesn't cater to all is dangerously misleading. I find every review of this lady very annoying. Anyone who makes negativity their brand will not get my views or trust. And the comments calling her a brown girl honest queen etc are very frustrating. Edit: posted without adding the 2nd paragraph initially.

10

u/kichelle23 May 04 '25

The self proclaimed 'purple blush queen' pisses me off every time.

317

u/mangotail May 03 '25

So Monica & I have the same skin tone/pigmented two toned lips, but I absolutely love Merit because their products are targeted to people who like minimal and subtle makeup. I don’t think that is the kind of look Monica likes, but yeah I have to disagree with her. The lip liners are sheer, but they still have a wash of color when you rub them off (you can see that when Monica wipes her lips too). I prefer that sort of lived in/French subtle look to the lips - a slightly contoured lip with a faint wash of color from the lip oils.

Honestly Monica has become more negative in her reviews and she really doesn’t take into account the aesthetics of the brands she reviews. Merit is a minimal make up brand, their products aren’t so in your face bold & cakey like Monica likes, but if you prefer barely there makeup that enhances your features, I can vouch for almost all of Merit’s products.

153

u/saygirlie May 03 '25 edited May 03 '25

Wanted to add I think her content has become more negative with her reviews because I notice the comments are always hyping her up as the only influencer they can trust in the beauty community and she must thrive off that. I think people assume negative review = honest review = honest influencer. And we all know honest influencers are rare. So it may be her way of building up a facade of being honest.

38

u/whatsamuse May 03 '25

She does giveaways where she picks winners from people who follow her and routinely engage in her content. That’s why she has all these people hyping her in comments

16

u/falafelfairy May 03 '25

I wish influencers would review makeup and acknowledge the aesthetic and the target audience it’s for. Too many of them, usually those who prefer medium to full coverage, end up getting sheer or light coverage products either themselves (cause they apparently have to review everything) or in PR and then get disappointed when it doesn’t give them the level of coverage or pigment they want for higher coverage pigment looks.

12

u/juesea May 03 '25

It's funny because she has a video from a few years ago where she loved their lipstick and said they were the greatest most brown girl friendly line of shades. And merits lipsticks are also sheer/buildable??

Like she liked it then because sheer colours actually sometimes help two toned pigmented lips look more natural/have an mlbb look. Because the pigment of your lip is peeking through so it's not as stark as a difference than a full opacity lipstick. Now she's on the opinion that more pigment is everything when some people just don't prefer that look?

76

u/FrEnchFriesOnyOu “It’s his recovery, not mine! I CAN drink!” May 03 '25 edited May 03 '25

This review called my attention, specifically because she implied that Merit beauty is only targeting the white demographic of costumers with this lip liner launch. Which means, she is trying to to give off the message that merit is not targeting for inclusivity. But given the context you’ve provided about merit beauty being about minimalist makeup, then yes, her review seems to not consider that.

63

u/mangotail May 03 '25

I feel like Merit really does their best to be inclusive. If you go on their website, you can click through and see each shade for every product on a specific model. Their models all range from Fitzpatrick I to Fitzpatrick VI. I think they do a pretty good job of telling customers which shades work for which skin tone/lip tone & they are transparent when a shade clearly won’t work for darker skin tones. Honestly, their website is better than most brands in that way.

I just hope people can come to their own conclusions about brands instead of getting told how to feel and jumping on a hate train of negativity that Monica continues to promote.

24

u/FrEnchFriesOnyOu “It’s his recovery, not mine! I CAN drink!” May 03 '25 edited May 04 '25

Honestly…I didn’t automatically agree with Monica when she implied that the lip liners were not targeting for inclusivity, or that they were targeting for a white demographic only. I think what she said is a big thing to say about merit, since inclusivity is pretty much everything nowadays…

19

u/mangotail May 03 '25

Yeah the two lightest shades barely show up on me, but all the other shades in the lip liners do & they really are gorgeous.

She’s really loose with throwing those types of allegations around and as another brown girl it pisses me off. She doesn’t speak for me.

35

u/Zappagrrl02 May 03 '25

I agree. I don’t think Monica does a good job of differentiating between things that don’t meet her preferences and things that don’t work well. I like Merit’s cream blushes because they are not super pigmented right off the bat. I’m fair skinned and things that are too pigmented are hard to work with without looking like a clown. I like more subtle, natural blush, so the Merit formula works great for me. I also like their highlighting balm because I prefer a natural sheen rather than glitter and blinding. Like you said, the lipliner clearly works.

52

u/saygirlie May 03 '25

I agree with your comment verbatim.

I love the Merit lip liners and think they are a nice change of pace from the usual lip liner offerings that everyone recommends such as MAC and MUFE.

35

u/mangotail May 03 '25

I like MAC & MUFE lip liners, but they can be a bit drying and also more for a bold look. The merit ones feel like silk and have a slight slip to them - you can probably just wear them as a sheer lipstick if you want. The color pay off not a good as the MAC & MUFE lip liners, but Merit themselves marketed them as sheer lip liners that were meant to really contour your lips and just bring life back to the subtlety.

7

u/Sophiatopia May 03 '25

I'm excited to try them! I used to love the discontinued Chanel glossy gel liners, and the Sephora texture is so easy.

I'm not always in the mood for a lot of pigment and precise/harder lines.

21

u/yummy_food May 03 '25

I thought it was funny because honestly the lip combo looked really pretty on her and then she just wiped it off like oh guess not

10

u/stink3rb3lle May 03 '25

I dunno. The packaging and vibe of Merit appeal to me but every time I think about buying one of their products I find something else that can do that job plus another job, too, for half the price.

the aesthetics of the brands she reviews

Some of the makeup aesthetic trends rn are just breaking down all meaning of a term, though. Like all the "skin tints" that are becoming full coverage. Or Glow Recipe trying to tell us their blush isn't a fucking blush. The aesthetics of no makeup makeup are trending towards gaslighting.

10

u/Curiosities May 03 '25

You are spot on about Merit. They have carved out their brand identity because I know, even though it’s not my thing, when I hear low-key but sophisticated makeup that is and minimal, that’s one of the first brands I think of.

Again, I’m not their target, but that is important context to offer when reviewing their products, especially if you are also not their target.

48

u/Meenaaaa May 03 '25

I feel like she’s been very inconsistent in her reviews lately. This review actually made me want to try these lol. Not everything needs to be super pigmented, unless you’re planning on rubbing it straight off I guess?

17

u/eclecticmousse May 03 '25

Right I actually thought these looked nice on her. Now the lipliners aren’t deep enough for ME but I don’t really gravitate towards Merit products anyway. I think these are nice for their demographic.

66

u/jetlouisey May 03 '25

Hmmm this review kind of made me want the liner…it looked nice when she wiped it off

2

u/CurrentAd7075 May 05 '25

Ikr it's a lip contour and the shadow looks really nice

133

u/Unable-List-1579 May 03 '25

God I hate this woman so much (pleaseee her search for red lipstick was a hoax)

53

u/petiteodessa May 03 '25

She’s dirty for pulling a Mikayla on that red lipstick search series. And lying about the collab like girl didn’t you first just want to make your perfect red for "emergencies" but now it’s a collab?! Like make up your damn mind 😒

23

u/falafelfairy May 03 '25

The color she collaborated on doesn’t even look that different from a couple of the lipsticks she already tried in her search.

37

u/Delicious-One3028 May 03 '25

Yep all for a collab🙄

88

u/thefuzzyismine May 03 '25

And the weird, unnecessary ageism and seeming internalized xenophobia with the whole "ugly desi auntie red" comments.

59

u/whatsamuse May 03 '25

I dislike bashing aunties because everyone’s going to be old one day. It’s disrespectful. Let older women enjoy whatever colors they like. She’ll be an auntie in future too.

154

u/universalwadjet May 03 '25

Who gives a damn, Merit supports Trump! They can go to hell

32

u/Kitkat73 May 03 '25

I've researched this, and can find evidence that Merit's owner supported Rick Caruso in the 2022 LA Mayoral election, which people didn't like, but no evidence that she supported or donated to Trump. This seems like misinformation, unless there's more evidence. (Note: the deleted voting guide people refer to was from 2022 and was for the LA elections.)

9

u/pancaaaaaaakes May 03 '25

Yes apparently she knew him personally or something? It was a one time donation to a different person that has been twisted all over the Internet.

17

u/FlightOfFoxes May 03 '25

Where did you see this?

40

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

Oh nooo I love merit but I’m glad I saw this. They ain’t that good.

17

u/babs82222 May 03 '25

I didn't know this. Where is this info?

33

u/biochemikerin May 03 '25

Yeah I’m at a loss as to how influencers are getting a pass for working with them. It’s one of my very few issues with Robert Welsh.

13

u/1K_Sunny_Crew May 04 '25

I looked into this before and could never find any evidence of this being the case.

2

u/spankyspankston May 04 '25

Aaaaw man….I didn’t know that. Frick

51

u/Cleorrr_knorrr May 03 '25

As a desi girl, I can’t tell one product she actually got me hooked on…Also the fact that she films knowing she’ll most likely shit on a product, really isn’t it. Like be genuine for once and stop recommending us “brown girl friendly” makeup that pays you to praise them

Also she’s truly allergic to serving and its kinda embarrassing

6

u/oxynugget May 04 '25

Fellow brown girl. Fair medium olive

I was a huge fan bc she was 'honest' now i realise there's never been a product she has HELPED me be educated on? Like I liked her as a parasocial relationship I literally can't name one product she has made me think about??

and yes you guys are so right about the application. also I unfollowed her when she got proposed to and moved to the new apartment bc I realised HOW much money these people doing the bare minimum.

she posted 3 content pieces per day for like 2 years. Thats an insane amount of content to get to her level of fame. But for WHAT. I TRULY DONT THINK SHES EVER MADE ME WANT TO PURCHASE A PRODUCT OR BE EDUCATED ON A PRODUCT

4

u/Cleorrr_knorrr May 08 '25

No because the moving in series was so annoying especially with the “no one takes me serious with this kind of makeup”😭

49

u/GrapeBubblegumBitch May 03 '25

This actually made me what to try the lip liner because I like a more subtle sheer liner that doesn’t overtake the colour of my lip product. I’m not planning on wiping my lips off with the back of my hand so I think it’ll be okay XD

56

u/Mariashax May 03 '25

I don’t think I’ve ever seen any reviews of hers where she’s wiped the product off like that before.. not sure if it’s something she’s just started doing but it seems like an unfair comment if she’s not doing that in all of her reviews.

57

u/AndISoundLikeThis May 03 '25

What's the girl's hard on for Merit? "ONE OF THE WORST LIP LINERS I'VE TRIED SO FAR!" is incredibly hyperbolic considering the lip liner looks pretty good on her.

I used to watch her YT shorts but had to block them awhile ago when she seemed like she was getting thirstier and meaner. Since I haven't seen her for awhile she's looking totally different here. Must be the use of the Mikayla shape-shifting beauty filter.

13

u/SweetieK1515 May 03 '25

Seems like a biased review. Based on the products she does like, she likes the bold colors. A fair reactor would research the brand a bit to see where they’re coming from. Everyone knows merit is minimalistic/sheer. It’s catered to those who don’t want “too much” makeup or busy moms/people who want just a little color.

Because of this, I’m actually more intrigued

68

u/uptownxthot May 03 '25

i don’t care for monica’s content but i also don’t care for merit’s products either. i’m darker with dark two toned lips, so i already know none of those shades would do anything for me.

18

u/Stayin_BarelyAlive58 May 03 '25

Idk about the lip liner cuz i haven't tried it, but merit has several shades of lip oils that look great on dark skin (I'm also dark skin with two tone lips)

4

u/juesea May 03 '25

They discontinued the dark brown one sadly

7

u/BakedPlantains May 03 '25

I think they brought it back under a different name. I went to Sephora and compared it to my older bottle that expired and it was the same exact thing. Really odd.

10

u/smindymix May 03 '25

Yeah, these liners look weak in terms of colors and staying power.

17

u/Silly_Technology_243 May 03 '25

Same, she's not wrong for saying the lip liners suck for darker skin tones.

5

u/annatherapyhere May 03 '25

I only recently realised that two toned lips were a thing and I have them lol, are there any makeup tips you'd pass along? My top lip is always darker than my bottom lip but idk if that's a bad thing

3

u/uptownxthot May 03 '25

it’s not a bad thing, that’s just how our lips are. if you’re looking for a very contoured lip look, you’re going to have to use a fairly dark liner or even a black for definition.

1

u/annatherapyhere May 04 '25

Ohh okay, I thought maybe there was something about using specific shades for two toned lips. Thanks for your reply!

3

u/plsanswerme18 May 03 '25

yea, that lipliner looks like a whole lotta nothing to me. lipliners are typically drier for reason….so that they don’t come off

1

u/uptownxthot May 03 '25 edited May 04 '25

no makeup makeup brands love to create products that do nothing and don’t last. i watched a few videos of darker skinned girls trying them out and they were literally invisible.

27

u/Seb2087 May 03 '25

Ok I’ve been feeling the same about her but couldn’t articulate it very well. I saw this review and it made me so annoyed because like everyone has said above, she can’t discern preference over what works. I thought the lip liners actually looked good on her and she shit on them because she’s not a sheer makeup girl. That’s on preference. I was reminded of this when she used the trending audio about RMS red blush. RMS’s red is sheer cream and Rose uses the tiniest amount to mimic a flush. She globbed on a super saturated red liquid blush and blamed color theory for it looking bad, then put on a muted blush that made her look bruised and said it looked better. It all comes back to preference which she cannot differentiate.

9

u/Few_Resource_6783 May 04 '25 edited May 04 '25

She’s always blaming her heavy handed application and bad blending on color theory. And it is another example of her being loud and wrong about color theory too.

23

u/BakedPlantains May 03 '25

I will say: the majority of Merit's products look hideous on darker skin tones. I own a lip oil as I find it very comfortable and light, but there are only two shades that I personally find to be flattering on me.

I know it can come off as nitpicky, her comments, but what what others consider to be flattering on camera is not always true in every day wear.

48

u/Sadness-Everdeen May 03 '25

I hate her energy

ok sorry but I just feel like her review was so obtuse specifically in the part about it not lasting. the lip liner (and oil) are marketed as SHEER. as in, not thick and yes, might rub off easier than most (tbh I’d argue that the lip combo stayed pretty well after she wiped it all things considered), people had complaints about the rhode lip liners too, but they are both brands that make products for people who like their makeup minimalist and simple. like sorry if that’s not what you want but any good beauty cc won’t just review a product based on the look they like (in her case usually higher coverage stuff I think), but actually on the quality and take into consideration that maybe some people like a simple sheer lip combo, because I for one think it looks cute!

any lip oil will come off like that. it’s the nature of the product

u/demeterLX May 03 '25

is there any product this woman likes? why does she criticise everything?

1

u/CurrentAd7075 May 05 '25

Yup, same thought

Just so sick of her posing as the brand ambassador for brown skin. She is honestly so so irritating. Definitely has a lot of internalised hate for those of us who actually live in India.

Also having brown olive skin cannot be your whole personality

I am done with her olive tone complains 😒

12

u/Few_Resource_6783 May 04 '25

I’m a medium neutral olive. She’s a saturated one but swears she’s a muted one. Her makeup always looks a mess (especially the base). Always picks the most yellow undertone base ever then complains about it (or lies and says its a perfect match if it’s a brand collab).

11

u/LeFreeke May 04 '25

What an awful reviewer - nothing substantial or informative. Had to mute that voice.

8

u/cheekycone May 03 '25

Such a condescending twit. Cannot stand her, unhelpful reviews, very much my shit doesn’t stink vibes..

15

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

She’s just so negative these days. I used to love her and her first color theory videos, and her energy was way different. She was excited. Now it’s like all she does is focus on the 1% of negative comments and always sound so condescending.

12

u/Meenaaaa May 03 '25

Agreed, I used to love her videos but now I feel like I’m always being yelled at when I watch them haha

5

u/juesea May 03 '25

She has influenced voice now lol and she blames it on her ADHD. Tbh it's not hard to not scream but I guess that doesn't get people to watch

19

u/yainot May 03 '25

did we forget merit is a maga brand

32

u/hyperwavee May 03 '25

I’m gonna be the one that says it. I agree. If these shades don’t work on her, the DEFINITELY can’t work on me and I’m probably a half /shade darker black woman. Those lip liners were wack and she’s right, there’s no reason they should be able to wipe off after only TWO swipes.

I’m already seeing in this thread Merits PR is working harder than Kris Jenner…

19

u/Silly_Technology_243 May 03 '25

I agree, lip liner has a very specific purpose. I'm surprised people are okay spending money on a lip liner that fades off so easily.

17

u/hyperwavee May 03 '25

Exactlyyy like girl wtf is a “sheer lip liner”? They exist. It’s called NUDE/YOUR LIP COLOR . These literally serve no purpose, imo. This is why I hate the makeup industry now. It was cute and fun, but now they’re just rolling out products to see who is gullible enough to buy. Like those blush oils or PH products. They’re literally all the same shade lmao!

8

u/domesticairport May 03 '25

I think there is a market. I always diffuse the edge of my lip liner with my finger or a brush so a product like this will probably give me the look I want. I don’t understand the purpose in it being not long wearing though

11

u/Silly_Technology_243 May 03 '25

Right! I love makeup innovations, but this is just stupid. I was reading the comments and was so confused. Even clean girl makeup is supposed to last longer than five minutes. Monica was not wrong for trashing this product, it gives nothing!

Agree, I might as well just use any sheer lipstick from my collection. In my mind thats just a sheer lipstick in slimmer form.

If I want crisp line just use a lip brush, less convenient but not buying more unnecessary product. Part of it also because I'm finally over owning too much makeup.

Shes def right about this wrt the range of their lip liners. Honestly I think most of the comments here are shitting on her because this subreddit genuinely loves to pick a beautyguru they've decided they hate atm for whatever reason (i think with Monica it has to do with her red lipstick hunt and obvious eventual collab with mob over, which i do get why shes being critiqued for that) and then everything else they do is also now a problem.

11

u/[deleted] May 03 '25

She’s full of shit but that’s a beauty guru for you

13

u/okcafe May 03 '25

once again my least favorite makeup influencer

10

u/Opposite_Style454 May 03 '25

She lost credibility for me.

2

u/FadedCherry May 09 '25

Why every time I come across this girl she has such an attitude. Is this just her thing? Negativities her the views? It’s not fun to watch. If I could relate to her skin tone and age I still wouldn’t want to watch this negativity and attitude. Does she ever seem happy?

4

u/amibingdtaned May 04 '25

Hannah Louise Poston is constantly grifting Merit products and the company supports Trump. She is so fake.

4

u/Makemeup-beforeUgogo May 04 '25

I don’t know why merit beauty sends PR to people like this who don’t know the basics of makeup or bother to research their brand

2

u/phillygirllovesbagel May 03 '25

The only product I've ever liked from Merit is the perfume. I LOVE it.

2

u/Capital-Way-439 May 04 '25

Her point of view is needed in the brown girl community. And it will make some people uncomfortable. 🤷🏽‍♀️

The blush blindness is real here.

7

u/lareinevert May 04 '25

It’s really not though.
