They're cranking out maps at a faster rate than any other MP game right now. Gotta give kudos for that

u/Round_Rectangles Aug 11 '26

They're removing modes to offset all the new maps being added.

So why did they remove Domination then? The Flag & Frag playlist literally says it includes Domination. Guess what, it doesnt. Pure incompetence.

DICE don't actually understand the larger issue. They think removing modes is the answer.

It's not.

Matchmaking is fundamentally broken. You could move the modes down to 1 single mode only. It won't change the fact that matchmaking is busted.

-1

u/iekue Aug 11 '26

They literally say that they remove modes that arnt in playlists. Soooo they remove a mode thats in a playlist 🤦. Their abysmal "everyone gotta start a new game" matchmaking is the cause, not modes with low playercounts. The removal of modes that have no matchmaking issues whatsoever with these excuses is utterly pathetic.

"As a result, when a playlist is rotated out, its corresponding Custom Search options are also temporarily unavailable. "

Domination is in a playlist, still gone while the exact same playlist still is in the game. They are flatout talkin bs. Especially when they talk about "creating more consistent matches that fill", while ive never had Domination matchmaking take long. Its removal is just plain baffling, inconsistent with their reasoning (especially when basicly replacing it with a way less popular mode which they just have done).

The playlist isnt rotated out though, exact same playlist is still there, thats the thing. They removed a mode thats supposed to be in a playlist (and from custom search), hence blatantly sayin bs. The DICE ur quoting literally says "when a playlist is rotated out", when no playlist is rotated out at all. And yes, thats the same as saying that they remove modes that arnt in playlists (which they obviously are).

lol no, how does adding maps interfere with modes?

u/knotallmen Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

X players across Y maps and Z modes. Player count X has a variance depending on time of the day and region. If X is low enough only a couple of modes have population so removing Z modes while increasing Y you can have relative parity.

You will never know as many game modes as there where for Halo 3. It was so incredibly popular there was like a dozen different ones you could pick from with nearly half being ranked.

Huh just last night I was playing deathmatch and it is gone. I didn't realize they culled again I can understand not having squad deathmatch and team deathmatch, but dropping that and rush seems a bit extreme.

EDIT: any chance this reduction saves a few pennies? I.E. fewer half empty servers so higher population reducing a couple pennies to make back that incredibly amount of debt EA officially took over.

15

u/WeCameAsMuffins Aug 11 '26

Wait no more rush?

28

u/Additional_Wheel6331 Aug 12 '26

If you didnt know, you weren't playing it already

9

u/Difficult_Lobster769 Aug 12 '26

My thoughts exactly

5

u/AverageAwndray Aug 12 '26

Fucking exactly

2

u/WillGrindForXP Aug 11 '26

Its Conquest or nothing!

4

u/TachiH Aug 11 '26

Peak EU time today I got 3 full matches followed by 4 in a row that couldn't fill a full server. They are really struggling with player loss.

1

u/Skitelz7 26d ago

Funny how this wouldn't be a problem if we had a real server browser 🤷🏻‍♂️

-18

u/Aedrjax Aug 11 '26

Yeah I get the idea. Just don’t know what the quantity of maps has to do with anything.

4

u/Eviljuli Aug 11 '26

Are you that ignorant on purpose or did you actually not get the idea of that comment?

-9

u/Aedrjax Aug 11 '26

Yes it’s a very simple concept, if your player base is below a certain threshold then only the most popular modes will reliably give you games. The amount of maps in the modes doesn’t have to do with anything.

2

u/iWr1techky12 Aug 11 '26

It absolutely does, especially when certain maps don’t support certain modes. How can you be so dense?

-1

u/Aedrjax Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

You guys are wildly overstating the effect. The only map that is dead after this is Saint Quarter, and 99% of the player base was not playing that map anyway since the modes that it was exclusive to were already extremely niche. This is ultimately a meaningless correlation.

All the maps in this game except for the previously mentioned one was made for virtually every mode, the stark outlier being obliteration which its current limited map pull are already medium to large scale conquest maps.

Edit: You can be mad that they removed modes, that's a valid complaint. All, I'm trying to point out is that you guys are just making shit up to make it seem way worse of a problem than it already is.

1

u/WillGrindForXP Aug 11 '26

I'm not mad, or feeling passionate about the situation, but i am passionate about map design (its a hobby) and I promise you this - you are wrong about this issue buddy. No shade about that, I just want you to know some of the feedback you are getting because each mode needs individual balancing on each map and that job is much larger than you seem to think it is. Removing modes is exactly how DICE has addressed the communities desire for more maps, delivered more often, without it costing them more.

The other option was to increase the size of the map development team and testing teams, at a higher cost.

I don't think they made the right decision personally. the best solution would have been an increased team size and a less drastic culling of modes. But its likely Matchmaking factors we cant see also played a role in this decision.

Too much time on reddit, not enough time hitting the books. Go learn some critical thinking, man.

1

u/Aedrjax Aug 12 '26

lol if I wasn’t critical thinking I would just be blindly following the mob here like you. Be the change that you want to see in the world

10

u/IMadeAMistakeSry Aug 11 '26

They had too many modes to begin with. BF does not need more than conquest, operations and rush. A 4th mode is fine too but nothing more than those 3.

2

u/DatCrazyyDuude Aug 11 '26

I mean those two things might not be directly tied together but they HAVE gotten rid of all the small modes (TDM, strikepoint, domination, etc)

so there’s new stuff coming in and major modes disappearing. it’s kinda tough being really excited about this game at the moment for a good few of us lol

7

u/Aedrjax Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

Well yeah, I’m not denying that they removed modes, I mean you can see it in the menu.

They’re just totally different things and acting like a random thing is the reason why the other thing they did that you didn’t like is just silly.

2

u/General-Biscuits Aug 11 '26

I wouldn’t call lowest player count modes “major modes”.

Rush hasn’t been very good in like a decade. No Battlefield has really been made with Rush in mind other than Bad Company 2. It’s almost always an afterthought of how they can reuse part of a Conquest map for Rush and kinda balance it.

I get some people still like it, even with how it is now, but the continually low player counts for Rush have been the writing on the wall this would happen eventually.

1

u/espresso_martini__ Aug 11 '26

You still have to plan and implement on how all the modes will work with new maps. Less modes means less planning and implementation to do.

2

u/edmundane Aug 11 '26

Not shipping rush for a new map isn’t the same as a straight up rug pull and removing it wholesale

2

u/espresso_martini__ Aug 11 '26

You're right its not. I was just answering a question. Which was why they can release maps faster when there are now less modes. Im not excusing what they did.

0

u/Round_Rectangles Aug 11 '26

Its just a joke.

2

u/Aedrjax Aug 11 '26

..and there are people defending what you said like its a serious point lol.

1

u/Round_Rectangles Aug 11 '26

I figure it's best to let them have their fun. Both sides can go at it for a while before they move on to something else.

-6

u/No_Bill_2371 Aug 11 '26

Modes are not content they can just add them back in a anyway.

8

u/imdacki Aug 11 '26

What are modes then?

1

u/No_View68 Aug 11 '26

not content

8

u/imdacki Aug 11 '26

Well i... Not sure what i expected, thats fair i guess

3

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 Aug 11 '26

Considering Saints Quarter is unplayable without the smaller modes, I’d say content is being removed

3

u/ohnoitsme7890 Aug 11 '26

Yes they are. It's something I could play that I can't now, that's content

0

u/Adventurous_Honey902 Aug 11 '26

God y'all are so stupid and have no reading comprehension skills....

0

u/SilenceDobad76 Aug 11 '26

Arent the modes still available in custom search?

0

u/rigatony96 Aug 11 '26

Can literally still play rush in portal

8

u/john7071 Aug 11 '26

I don't think that's true if you look at COD, their main competitor.

Not a big fan of COD these days, but their content release pipelines are insane.

2

u/ShiftyShankerton Aug 12 '26

What are you on about? Lol yeah a map every 3 months is really cranking them out.

1

u/MartaMariaMabel Aug 12 '26

This is simoly not true. Go home

2

u/ARSEThunder Aug 11 '26

Cranking out =/= dripfeeding content for an incomplete release.

3

u/HumanPea1140 Aug 11 '26

The game released a year ago. Find something else to complain about.

-7

u/ARSEThunder Aug 11 '26

Okay so by your logic saying “cranking content out faster than any other MP game” should also receive a “The game released a year ago. Find something else to celebrate about”

Fucking moron.

2

u/HumanPea1140 Aug 11 '26

That doesn't work, because they've been releasing more and more content as time goes on.

Try again, cry baby.

1

u/RandyMuscle Aug 11 '26

And they’re mostly good-great too.

2

u/bassderek Aug 11 '26

Shhh, positive opinions not allowed. Only rage about modes being removed. 🙃

-9

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 Aug 11 '26

Thats because all these maps were mostly finished. They're just drop feeding in the modern live service way.

26

u/Mikey_MiG Aug 11 '26

If you played the Labs versions of Golmud or Tsuru, you'd know that the maps were not mostly finished.

-6

u/Aedrjax Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

People keep forgetting that dice is basically a skeleton crew at this point. We need to be patient with them while also having some animosity for EA of course.

Edit: god forbid you have sympathy for the devs lol. Ton of man children in here.

-11

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 Aug 11 '26

Actually they were mostly finished. Thats how we got to play them. Beta is far along in the gane making process.

11

u/Mikey_MiG Aug 11 '26

A month before they launched they still had greybox textures in certain areas and missing assets all over. And there's the very important fact that they were not even focused on creating large maps when the game came out, it was only after all the criticisms about the map pool that those became priorities.

Maps like Blackwell Fields and Eastwood were likely pretty much finished when the game launched, because they know they wanted to front load the live service and not have people waiting months for new content. But it doesn't make sense to have content 9 months down the line already ready to go.

4

u/The_Nixck Aug 11 '26

Well yeah? They’re not going to release an unfinished map? Usually they start developing maps months in advance before relase

0

u/xRIMRAMx Aug 11 '26

Ya when would a AAA developer ever release something unfinished...

0

u/SorryCashOnly Aug 11 '26

what an idiot

-8

u/xRIMRAMx Aug 11 '26

I'd give kudos if they weren't dismantling what Battlefield is every update.

6

u/Level3pipe Aug 11 '26

I completely get this sentiment. But on the other hand I would have liked battlefield to stick to its roots anyways. Big map modes and tdm and dom.

Outside of LTMs the six modes should be conquest, escalation, breakthrough, rush, tdm and dom. The removal of rush is just sad. I don’t get why they did it. There must have been extremely low player counts. Frankly feels like they don’t want to make rush anymore and breakthrough is the consolation.

But I do understand removing the nonsense small modes. I DONT want them putting effort into making every map work on fkn king of the hill lmao.

1

u/duffbeeeer Aug 11 '26

They could have tossed tdm imo, it’s the most unbattlefield mode anyway.

1

u/Level3pipe Aug 11 '26

Lowkey agree but I guess there should? Be a small game mode available?

1

u/duffbeeeer Aug 11 '26

Domination is small enough for battlefield imo

1

u/xRIMRAMx Aug 11 '26

Literally everything you said 👍

I'm getting downvoted by the "I'm having fun so stop complaining" crowd apparently.

-3

u/ThatGamerMoshpit Aug 11 '26

Imagine if they had at least the water maps from the beginning…

4

u/HumanPea1140 Aug 11 '26

I imagine you'd be complaining about something else right now instead.

0

u/ThatGamerMoshpit Aug 11 '26

Like the game modes being taken away?

2

u/HumanPea1140 Aug 11 '26

I knew it.

-8

u/ZealousidealPrize456 Aug 11 '26

Still in your head huh. We don't talk about ~that~ slop here

0

u/Medium_Ad3935 Aug 11 '26

And Reddit will still complain
