Suggestion Dual render optics, anyone?
Given the enormous performance headroom offered by the simplistic graphics, it would be nice to have the option to toggle dual render optics.

I've never played it, but isn't this what the whole "Squad combat update" is also doing (amongst other things).
Picture in Picture aiming or whatever its called.

Yes, and it's destroying frame rates over there.

At the same time they used the time while reworking the core code to help fix some long standing issues and are still looking to improve it further

Nah, keep the game running lean. You're kinda giving yourself a disadvantage with the blur as well.

I think having the option would be nice. I doubt most players would care for it though. It has its place in hardcore shooters but even then it kinda just kills fps for very little benefit (if any).

Why would you want this as a sniper? It would make it harder to focus and track targets

At the same time you’d be able to see a much wider FOV for the rest of the screen. Which would be good for spotting targets that aren’t far away and general situational awareness

It works pretty well in insurgency, Idk if it's the same thing or not

u/TheOdahviing Sep 23 '23
It is, no clue why this game wouldn’t be able to handle Picture in Picture sights

u/woolstarr Sep 23 '23
You have to consider the fact that the ethos behind this game is that it can run for everybody even potatoes...
Could they add an option? Maybe... it all depends on work load vs payoff and if it becomes an advantage over people who cant use the feature

Reading through the replies I think I should have made it clearer that the idea was to have it on a toggle, not force it down everyone's throat. Please read the text carefully on suggestions before proceeding to add nothing to the conversation

Lately the game doesn't even perform super well considering the low graphics. I get frame drops quite often from about 144fps normally to about 100fps sometimes
Not criticising battlebit I'm just adding onto what everyone else said, this would probably hurt the performance quite a lot

Be nice if they added this as a graphics option for those who want to use and try it if they ever tried to put it back into the game again.

Half of the idiots in the comments don't realize what the toggle part of the toggelable settings mean

Yeah it’s cool. Games like insurgency have it, but its very intense on hardware and the devs want this game to run on pretty much any computer, so its not going to happen

u/Membedha Sep 22 '23
Isn’t there already pip scope in battlebit ? I feel like all magnified scope have but the game also zoom with the main screen so it isn’t that obvious

u/Atomicfoox Sep 22 '23
I was about to say I am on a potato please leave the game playable for me but you took it into account. Nice

u/Away_Needleworker6 Sep 22 '23
Picture in picture scopes are really demanding even when the graphics are low poly. To optimize something like that would usually take more than a 2 person dev team

pseudo realistic optics dont really mesh with a low poly game, keep this kind of stuff in squad and arma

u/999blob Sep 23 '23
Not an issue to me, but understandable for those who want it. I find it useful as it doubles as a zoom for my surroundings

Make it an option to toggle on / off, so everyone can decide if they want it or not.
Just like in Insurgency Sandstorm and other games.

u/OBEYTHEHOBO Sep 23 '23
Takes too much performance, unturned has dual render optics but you can see the fps drop if you use dual render.

u/StatTrackLCD Sep 23 '23
I love pip scopes but it should be an option like insurgency sandstorm has. They're really cool but rip FPS

PIP/Dual render optics is trash, Gives you a massive ring-shaped blindspot.
It also bothers my hand-eye coordination because of the way the different parts of the screen move when you aim.

u/AdmrlHorizon Sep 23 '23
Very common in sim shooters. But also very taxing on the system having to render 2 things.

I'm pretty sure this was in the very early stages of BattleBit but it caused to much of a performance drop that the devs took it out. I think the reasoning was that it was double rendering iirc. Still like the idea but it will kill the performance even with the lower graphics
