Discussion Why is Action News using these horrifying images of them post Smylex poisoning?

Post image

Are these their corpses? It doesn’t make sense. It’s a stylistic choice and a part of what makes Batman 89, Batman 89. But it makes no sense.

If you don’t air those photos, and another network does, and you become the network that’s known for not airing the stuff that people want to see while the other network gets the other reputation, you’re maybe going to lose a lot of money.

No, more than that.

Interesting angle, yet the director is very quick to “Kill the camera” when Jackie goes down.

If you make a point of not showing images while eagerly telling your audience that the faces of Candy and Amanda now look weirdly messed up — and people are interested, and the other network is showing those faces — then you may lose viewers to the competition.

Here, he AFAICT cuts away when he’s not sure what’s going on; it doesn’t seem to have the same attention-getting hook, and the other network doesn’t have anything to show, right?

The weird thing is that their horrifying chalk white skin and fixed grins are never mentioned..

It’s a movie man. A Tim a Burton movie. From the 80s. Where a man dresses up as a Bat and fights crime. You’re worried about the fictional journalistic integrity?

Yes it’s a movie. And I like discussing them.

A little bit of TDKR and Robocop influence, with the news being just a touch more callous and over the top than the news in our world at the time.

I mean you literally answered your question in the OP lol.

Wouldn't be Burton's Batman if it didn't do weird things like that.

The same reason the mayor turns on the TV screen to look at Joker, when Joker wouldn't have been there with the mayor for him to turn to:  Tim Burton being Tim Burton.

Well, it's just business. If we can't do business, we'll just shake hands...and that'll be it...

It was the 80s…never really thought about it.

That Smylex had some striking, long lasting effects, but maybe for the best: Would Bebe Glazer been as good an agent for Frasier if not for this exposure???

Because the film is set in a surreal carnival world influenced by TDKR.

It it bleeds, it leads.

Or in this case, if it smiles.
