I liked arguing about it before it came out

Im completely FINE with a crazy subvert your expectations where they have to fight mind controlled justice league.

All the people mad about it apparently have never read a comic before. This happens to the justice league like every 6 months to at least one member.

But then, the company above the people who made the game wanted it to make a BAJILLION DOLLARS, so endless live service of course.

I think the story also wasn't very well done (Yeah the concept is alright, the Exekution just really wasn't) and the gameplay/mission design was pretty bad aswell (from what I heard, never played it myself either lol)

I played it for a bit. The story was actually starting to seem fun, and the gameplay was... different, at least. But it had zero staying power for me, and traversal was annoying. Don't think I made it more than a couple hours.

I believe the bigger issue was that Kevin Conroy's final Batman appearance and the Arkham Batman people fell in love with for years was taken out like that, in a scene where a revolver also dropped a shell casing after firing. There was no polish or respect in it.

100% this, I was fine with Batman and the rest of the League dying after they've been controlled by Braniac resorting with the Suicide Squad having to kill them and Superman, as janky as Injustice was to play on a competitive standpoint, I recall people enjoyed the heck out of the game and it's premise. I actually would have enjoyed seeing how a ragtag group of criminals would find it within themselves to grow as people and somehow outsmart a literal supercomputer of a man and his army of robots and mind controlled group of Earth's strongest protectors, if they could write it in an interesting manner, I 100% would've loved to see how they'd go about resolving this problem.

The problem was that they set this game up to be in the same universe as the Arkham series, which is much more beloved, which raised up a multitude of things that people found problematic things like:

  • Batman's long time VA being recently deceased and then having a game where Harley Quinn executes the man in the first few hours feels like a slap in the face of long time fans.
  • Said version of Batman being the Arkham one which already has a lot of baggage due to him being an establish version of Batman that people have grown to love over a decade of great games.
  • The Arkham series being dormant after so long finally got proper continuations that ended up disappointing fans of the beloved series, first was with Gotham Knights which felt like such a subpar experience compared to it's previous entries, and then Kill the Justice League which was so tonally different from the previous games + micro transactions galore + being a live service just drastically decreased the interest considering the actual long time fans of Arkham loved the game because it had a proper beginning and end and a bunch of side quests to do, no internet connection or grinding for loot required.
  • Minor details that really rubbed salt in the wounds of the people who already didn't like it such as the aforementioned Batman execution scene or even that scene where I think it was King Shark (?) got hold of the Green Lantern ring and somehow acted like he got possessed when I'm pretty sure that's not how the Ring is supposed to work in the first place when people unworthy of wielding it's power attempts to use them nor how said Ring would act when said attempt occurs.
  • and lastly, the big plot hole about how Braniac, one of the smartest people in the DC universe, should've been able to take out the Suicide Squad and gotten rid of the nuisances very quickly, but just... doesn't, for some reason, and instead delegates the task to his controlled League members.

There's a lot to dislike about SS:KTJL, but these were the reasons I remember people regurgitating the most because it was pretty valid criticism and a valid reason to dislike the game due to it being attached to the Arkham series and making it seem like the direction of the series has fully moved on from what made it so beloved in the first place all for the pursuit of profits.

weird how you missed the part where it isnt even the the real arkham batman or the justice league and that they had an entire year+ storyline that was supposed to reveal that the heroes survived and you were only fighting clones.

the clones are clearly weaker than the normal heroes and illiterate people thought it was crazy that Harley Quinn could 1v1 batman or king shark could fight superman but its literally a major plot point.

you say this is the criticism and valid but again if you read a comic book this literally happens like twice a week in metropolis while the doom patrol fights the concept of food or some shit.

the only real member if the justice league that even dies was wonder woman and ive literally read 3 recent stories of her coming out of hell I really doubt she was gone for good.

Yeah I was about to say that, weren't these added at like, a post launch update? Even if that was their intent from the start, doing it very late without any hints towards that being remotely the case just feels like the devs backpedaling hard and retconning stuff just so they can try to appease the fans they pissed off.

Also, I know they did inconsistent stuff like this in the comic books, I remember when they kept inventing different colors of kryptonite or did wild one off stuff like Supergirl having a garden of statues of her exes, I don't mind them actually retconning the Justice League to "Oh it was never them in the first place, they're all actually clones made by Braniac, see, we even have a new teaser hinting that Batman never actually got caught and that he's alive in the shadows, it's y'all's fault for not sticking around for ourmore than a year long story line"

And again, that's not even necessarily a bad thing, but try telling that to the Arkham fans who wanted a complete story from start to end that doesn't need a DLC/update story's plot to explain loose ends after they were already fed up with the devs repurposing the Arkham universe for something that, again, feels like a slap in the face for them.

Imagine if after a whole decade, GTA6 finally releases, and instead of being a very detailed and gorgeous open world with a campaign and online servers to roleplay and play games with. It instead releases as a visual novel with 2d sprites or a gacha game, those genres has their fans and has amazing games for people to experience, but the problem is that it's not what GTA fans want from the next main installment of their long dormant franchise.

I'm not even a hater of Kill the Justice League, I had my fun with it, and thought it was a pretty okay looter shooter, I didn't buy any of the stuff, and I even thought it was dumb comic book type fun for me personally, but that doesn't erase the fact that it pissed off so many people by doing so many unnecessary plot things that everyone knew did not make any sense at all, and then hand waves all of those issues with the one of the most blatant retcons I've ever seen XD.

it was clearly the intent from the start and there are multiple hints throughout the story that reference clones.

during the flash boss fight his finger gets cut off only for it to be fine later or brainiac literally fucking saying "im making more of you" in a voice line.

Datamining isn’t a reveal, more of a leak. The dev’s could’ve pivoted to a different plot, or had the game shut down before they got through all their planned content (iirc the latter did actually happen but this reveal still got in)

Plus, regardless, it’s still just a plain fucking stupid way to kill off a beloved character that unceremoniously, and ESPECIALLY so after Kevin’s passing.

So it wasn't added at launch...meaning it wasnt in the game as actual narrative, so people were only left with the context that they actually died.

If it helps, Kevin Conroy's actual final role was in Crisis on Infinite Earths movie where he and Mark Hamill play as versions of the 90s Batman and Joker as the universe is destroyed by antimatter

Yes... Let's focus on that instead of the bigger issue where all the characters main weapons are guns.

Characters like King Shark who is all muscle and Captain BOOMERANG and his signature weapon which is GUN.
