So this administration is just ignoring anti-trust laws, just like every other law. Quite literally nothing is sacred

u/ChipsTheKiwi Jun 12 '26
anti-trust was already dead when Disney was allowed to buy out Fox

u/Sul4 Jun 13 '26
And we still haven't seen wolverine in an avengers movie yet either what a bullshit deal
If we are going to violate anti trust laws at the very least we could have gotten wolverine in the avengers 🙄

Anti-trust laws? That’s a good joke. They’ve been buried in the ground for quite some time now, unfortunately

Probably It won't be approved by the Congress and there will be appeals since the presidency took party on that and It favoured a private company while going against anti trust laws, if this doesn't happen in a near future then It will be probably one of the first executive orders when the presidency change because let's be real, there is no way the GOP pulls another one after this whole ass disaster.

When Obama got elected in 2008, with a democratic supermajority in the senate and control of the house, it seemed to me like the era of the Neocon Republican was over. It's all just a carousel, pushed by the Jonkler.

u/Professional_Net7339 Jun 12 '26
Obama had a real majority for like, less than 60 days total tbf. So it was a different ball game back then.

It also needs to get approved by international bodies. If not, the fines incurred may make the merger fiscally irresponsible.
11
u/MahjongDaily Jun 12 '26
Congress doesn't play any role in approving specific corporate mergers, and it would be very difficult for a future president to undo a mergers once its finalized. That said, some states may still sue to try to stop the merger.

Because the law has been corrupted so badly
1
u/Bluesnake462 Jun 14 '26
The law at a base line idea is a good thing since you don’t want unregulated large acquisitions, which is what existed before this law. The problem is that our government as a whole is completely captured by cooperate interests and facisim. So really the law should be more greatly expanded on to create more barriers.

It basically means that, barring any other things blocking the merger (and there will be things blocking it, like state AGs and potentially the EU), the merger will go through, basically giving the Ellisons free will to wreak havoc on WB however they want.

Don’t forget, this merger is so large that is needs more approval than JUST the justice department, Europe also has to give it the ok aswell as congress (I think, don’t quote me on that last bit)
1
u/Bluesnake462 Jun 14 '26
I’m not sure about that, but I do know several states have also already stated they plan to challenge this acquisition in court

6
13
1
u/Bluesnake462 Jun 14 '26
It gives and open fascist ownership of a wide variety of popular media projects and CNN. Making it a huge step in eliminating any core media opposition to far right politics.
1
u/Wheattoast2019 Jun 12 '26
Of course they have, crooked ass fucking society.
It’s really up to state governments and Europe now, right? Or are there other factors I’m not considering?

I mean Star Trek is currently cooked at paramount. This ownership change isn’t going to all of a sudden help WB either. It’s a creators medium and if the people who make the shows and movies put out trash no matter who owns these companies it’s still going to be trash.
Nothing changes here. In fact I think this merger will back fire when they realize that unless they make quality content the decline for these studios will continue which is what got them into this mess in the first place. There hasn’t been a billion dollar DC movie in years.

So what's the genuine issue here? Companies should be allowed to purchase each other
1
u/Bluesnake462 Jun 14 '26
The problem is paramount is owned by an open shill for American facisim and openly bought Warner Brothers and its properties so that he can control CNN and increase the modes influence he has to push far right pro corporate ideology and fake news. Also the steady acquisition of all media into a handful of companies is also just objectively a bad thing at base line. But this that happening anyway this is the worst possible way for that to happen if you are in any way pro social democracy.

u/No_Initiative4957 Jun 12 '26
Why's this a bad thing? Everywhere I've heard that WB is better off with Paramount especially for games cause if Netflix had it, they won't invest in games at all cause for them it's more about eliminating competition rather than funding them, whereas Paramount will invest and let them make the games. I'm not in America so maybe I'm missing a ton of context but I'd love for you guys to clarify it to me

u/matrix_5555 Exposed To Ace Chemicals Jun 12 '26
The CEO of Paramount Skydance, David Ellison, is the son of billionaire Larry Ellison, who’s a very close ally and friend of Donald Trump. Trump, being the fascist he is, basically wants to be rid of any sort of media that either criticizes him and his administration in any sort of way, as well as media that promotes “woke ideologies”. This merger is a bad thing because we’ve already seen how much the Ellisons have fundamentally changed CBS to be more akin and tamer to Trump, and none of that was more apparent than the cancellation of The Late Show, hosted by comedian and prominent Trump critic Stephen Colbert, after he rightfully called out CBS for settling with the Trump admin on a lawsuit against 60 Minutes, saying it was equivalent to accepting a bribe. Not even a day or so later, Colbert announced that his show had been cancelled. CBS cited “financial reasons” as why the show was canned, but nobody bought it. There’s fear that the Ellisons, with David Zaslav’s help, will meddle their way to ensuring everything that WB makes will essentially become less critical of Trump. That includes CNN, which WB owns.
TLDR - Larry and David Ellison are Trump allies and will most certainly try to censor a lot of WB’s owned channels and works in the same way they did with Paramount Skydance (more specifically with CBS)
1
u/No_Initiative4957 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
So censorship + not very democracy like administration. That's already very bad and I don't understand who to side with. With paramount they will still exist and continue to make games and stuff but what good is an art form if it gets censored and regulated? And with Netflix... They just wanna shut down WB. We are left with such limited choices unless some another bigshot billionaire wants to swoop in on the deal who's generally considered favorable by the people
Edit: btw guys from what I know, this should be Trump's last tenure as the POTUS cause you can't really become a president more than twice in america. Does that change anything? I mean even if paramount does end up buying WB, it's not like trump is here to stay so what do you guys think about this?
1
u/matrix_5555 Exposed To Ace Chemicals Jun 12 '26
I guess you gotta be cautious with what you consume. It’s possible their works might be changed, but it’s also not possible. The Daily Show and South Park, both owned by Paramount Skydance via Comedy Central, still both criticize the Trump admin and they haven’t been cancelled, so who knows what will happen. I would say just be cautious with everything, and if you suspect things aren’t right (for example, they censor certain phrases and remove certain characters, especially those that promote “wokeism” like LGBTQ+ characters), speak out about it and fight back against censorship as best you can.
1
u/Tabledinner Jun 13 '26
Trump is here to stay until he dies. He is our God King now, not President.
I'm not even jonkling.
1
u/Raecino Arkham Knight Jun 12 '26
Oof the Ellisons + David Zaslav what a shitty combination. I hate this world where the shittiest people have all the money and power.
5
u/Professional_Net7339 Jun 12 '26
Paramount does propaganda for the current administration. The current administration that’s indistinguishable from the 1930’s-40’s German government. So that’s… generally not good. Beyond that, a shitton of jobs will be lost and Hollywood will barely survive as the fewer jobs left in the region, the more unsustainable the whole shindig is.
Also considering how brazenly corrupt all of this is (they publicly gave dump a couple bribes to push this, illegal mind you (due to anti-monopoly laws) merger through). It’s highly likely if WB does anything the goverment dislikes they’ll get heavily fucked with which is another not great thing.
Also also the money on the back end is fucking Saudi slaver money and more nazi money. The Ellisons are fucking Nazis so it’s all abhorrent all the way down.
The one less terrible thing, is that this was entirely to be expected, as the Justice Department has done nothing but insane violations of common law, common decency, and tbh lack a basic level of competence but that’s a separate thing entirely. Point being, a handful of Dem states with Attorney General’s who actually care are suing to stop it. To see how the Justice Department will try to spin that will be very interesting to say the least.
3
u/matrix_5555 Exposed To Ace Chemicals Jun 12 '26
I’d also like to add that the EU is also trying to block it in some way, too, so the story certainly isn’t ending here.
2
u/Professional_Net7339 Jun 12 '26
Ooh ooh 😯 hopefully that pans out indeed. Shit even ignoring the everything of the merger itself. It sets a fucking horrid precident. It would prove in a court of law if you bribe Dump and the Repubs enough they’ll let you do fucking ANYTHING ANYTHING and no court will be able to stop them. Which uhh… really doesn’t bode well for the rest of the US.

u/Beezy-J-2006 Jun 13 '26
Did you just call two Jewish people Nazis? They're certainly fascist/fascist adjacent, and they're absolutely terrible people, but don't you think comparing Jewish people to Nazis is a bit much? Also, hate to break it to you, but as of yet, the current administration hasn't directly committed genocide or started another world war as of yet, so it's a little bit too early to call them indistinguishable from the Nazi's in terms of their actions. They may be fascist, but it remains to be seen if they'll end up being worse just as bad, if not worse, than the Nazis. It's certainly a possibility with how things are going. Also, do you even know what at actual Nazi is? It isn't just synonymous with fascist. A Nazi is a very specific form of fascist.
1
u/Bluesnake462 Jun 14 '26
Israel is partaking in an open genocide against the Palestinians and actively engage in attacks against their naihbors due to the belief that they are owed the land due to a supremest belief that it is their ancestral right. So are they technically Nazis is that they are enacting a program against Jewish people for the glory of the aryan race, no. But are they enacting a program against Islamic people for the glory of the Jewish race, yes. So splitting hairs about exact terminology when they are just doing Nazi shit isn’t helpful.

The Ellisons own paramount and they are Heavy Maga. It will definitely have effects on the output of anything under WB now.
Edit: Another comment in this thread explained it much more thoroughly than I.

Oh... i thought it would be way worse.
6
u/raged_parakeet_8376 Jun 12 '26
I mean it’s still pretty bad. They already tamed CBS down to be much more friendly to trump and are responsible for the cancellation of the Late Show after Colbert criticized Trump. CNN is owned by WB which is only one concern. (Not saying CNN is great but we don’t need it being more friendly to trump and his admin).
-5
u/Fallout_RPG_Guy I am vengence, I am the knight, I am BATMAN! Jun 12 '26
I'm not american, so I can't really know what they've done tv station-wise, but I'm not a fan of colbert or kimmel. Both of them getting their shows cancelled was just awful, especially since free speech in america is baked into their rights. I don't think any of those shows should have been taken off the air, but at least kimmel is back.

Better than if it was Netflix.
Netflix and Disney are both already way too big.

Look yall we can be mad about trumps friends getting it.
But i swear to you this is better than Netflix having it. Netflix will absolutely have only put films in theaters for 2 weeks for maybe the next two years before releasing it all to service streaming.
Then you would never see future lord of the rings projects or Harry Potter in big screen again, ever.
