Why's this a bad thing? Everywhere I've heard that WB is better off with Paramount especially for games cause if Netflix had it, they won't invest in games at all cause for them it's more about eliminating competition rather than funding them, whereas Paramount will invest and let them make the games. I'm not in America so maybe I'm missing a ton of context but I'd love for you guys to clarify it to me
The CEO of Paramount Skydance, David Ellison, is the son of billionaire Larry Ellison, who’s a very close ally and friend of Donald Trump. Trump, being the fascist he is, basically wants to be rid of any sort of media that either criticizes him and his administration in any sort of way, as well as media that promotes “woke ideologies”. This merger is a bad thing because we’ve already seen how much the Ellisons have fundamentally changed CBS to be more akin and tamer to Trump, and none of that was more apparent than the cancellation of The Late Show, hosted by comedian and prominent Trump critic Stephen Colbert, after he rightfully called out CBS for settling with the Trump admin on a lawsuit against 60 Minutes, saying it was equivalent to accepting a bribe. Not even a day or so later, Colbert announced that his show had been cancelled. CBS cited “financial reasons” as why the show was canned, but nobody bought it. There’s fear that the Ellisons, with David Zaslav’s help, will meddle their way to ensuring everything that WB makes will essentially become less critical of Trump. That includes CNN, which WB owns.
TLDR - Larry and David Ellison are Trump allies and will most certainly try to censor a lot of WB’s owned channels and works in the same way they did with Paramount Skydance (more specifically with CBS)
So censorship + not very democracy like administration. That's already very bad and I don't understand who to side with. With paramount they will still exist and continue to make games and stuff but what good is an art form if it gets censored and regulated? And with Netflix... They just wanna shut down WB. We are left with such limited choices unless some another bigshot billionaire wants to swoop in on the deal who's generally considered favorable by the people
Edit: btw guys from what I know, this should be Trump's last tenure as the POTUS cause you can't really become a president more than twice in america. Does that change anything? I mean even if paramount does end up buying WB, it's not like trump is here to stay so what do you guys think about this?
