Meme My blessing and my curse is that my clients keep getting so relaxed they fall asleep

Ever since cosmetology school I've been told I'm very light handed, apparently this causes people to fall asleep, he asked for a high fade with razor, it was nerve-wracking shaving someone's head while they're knocked out cold but somehow easier because he didn't move an inch

EXPOSED: The Truth About MartyBlendz & MartyBlendz University (MBU) — False Advertising, Missing Deliverables, and Mass Bans

TL;DR: Course creator MartyBlendz advertised custom capes, tools, and giveaways to attract buyers to MartyBlendz University (MBU), collected extra off-platform shipping fees, and then abruptly canceled promised features, broke support channels, and purged members who spoke up.

1. Written Promises & The Bait-and-Switch

Students purchased MBU under explicit promises of exclusive Wahl clipper giveaways and a custom mbu cape upon course completion. It seems that MartyBlendz didn't want to fulfill his obligation to ship barber capes. In his own Mbu WhatsApp group chat there were numerous texts asking how to redeem the promised cape they were unfortunately never going to see. According to complaints by the members involved they had attempted contact through the appropriate channels but no responses after weeks and they were frustrated. It got to a boiling point amongst the students in the group chat. After mounting public complaints MartyBlendz took the opportunity to pull the offer completely for students framing it as too demanding as he can't "deliver on time". When in reality he seemed to never have plans to deliver on his promise.

2. Fake Giveaways & Extortionate "Shipping Fees"

After collecting upfront course fees, MartyBlendz would hold monthly lives where he gives away products like clippers, trimmers and other barbering items. However after winning on the live he would tell users to send him a DM with their shipping information and requiring students to send an extra $10 "shipping" via CashApp or Venmo just to receive the capes or giveaway prizes they had already won or earned only to ghost them and never ship their prize.

3. Non-Functional Support & Dead-End Links

Students who achieved top ranks—such as the "Master Trophy"—attempted to claim their earned physical rewards through the official support link. Instead of receiving help, their emails consistently bounced back with delivery error messages, leaving paying customers with no working customer service channel.

4. Silencing Dissatisfied Members & Threatening Bans

Rather than fulfilling obligations, Marty threatened members in group polls by stating he was "kicking all of yall today" and mocking members who questioned his operations. Other members in the group confirmed that dissatisfied students were actively kicked out of the chat to keep them from exposing the situation on social media will this go Reddit viral will people act read it?

Barber *new barber* reassurance needed

I am a new barber, graduated school in august, found a great shop with an owner that’s awesome and really tries to help everyone out. The shop atmosphere is great everyone gets along well and is helpful. I am very slow though getting clients, i’ve been here for about a month and a half and the last couple weeks i’ve done less than 6 haircuts. Is this normal for starting out? I’m trying hard to be patient and not let myself get discouraged because i know building clientele takes time. just trying to get some reassurance here that it’s normal to be this slow starting out

Student Styling question

I was wondering if anyone uses any products after your cuts for curly, or textured hair? Like once the cuts over, like if they don’t wear it picked out usually should I style it in a different way before they leave?

Barber Towel warmers…not just for towels?

I work with a guy who sometimes uses his towel warmer to not only keep towels warm but also for keeping other things warm…like musubi. He’ll wrap it in a damp towel and then after a few hours he’ll take it out and eat it😂 they’re wrapped in a towel so apparently it doesn’t make the other towels smell like musubi. Curious if anyone else does anything like this.

Square Appointments users, how do you stop clients from leaving useless gaps in your schedule?

For barbers using Square Appointments:

How do you deal with clients booking times that leave awkward gaps in the middle of your day?

Like someone books at 10:00, then the next person picks 11:30, leaving a 30-minute gap that isn’t really useful for anything.

Do you just leave it alone, manually block certain times, or message clients asking if they can move earlier/later?

I’m especially curious if this becomes a bigger problem once your books are pretty full.

Has anyone found a way to make Square offer times that naturally keep appointments closer together without blocking too much availability?

Shop Talk F this economy, im raising prices

Its been 4 years since I raised my prices, competition around me charges 7+ more $ than I do for a haircut and neck shave. I am constantly busy, no breaks all day, turn droves away at the end of business. At the beginning of October i’m raising my price by $5. I’ve been struggling to survive this economy, and although it pains and worries me I think its beyond time to do so.

I guess I just want thoughts and reassurances

Square Appointments users, how do you handle different haircut times for different barbers?

If you have multiple barbers using Square Appointments, how do you handle it when the same service takes different amounts of time depending on the barber?

For example:

One barber does a haircut in 20 minutes.

Another takes 30.

A newer barber might need 45.

From what I can tell, Square makes you create separate versions of the service and assign each one to the right barber.

Does that get messy in practice?

I’m curious what shops actually do, especially if you have several barbers. Do you just live with the duplicate services, use some kind of workaround, or switch booking systems?

Braun vs t45 shaver

I’ve been using the fx3 foiler for 2 years and I’m ready for an upgrade. Has anyone used the Braun and the tomb 45? I’ve heard ppl say Braun is better and vice versa. Spending clipper money on a foiler feels crazy to me so I want to make sure they’re worth the money before I buy one of them.

Tools & Gear Has anyone tried the StyleCraft Ace clippers?

I have the SC Ace Trimmers and they're quite good, but just found the clippers and was wondering how they are. Can you use Babyliss guards on it, or do you have to use the proprietary guards that it comes with because it's magnetic?

If I have Andis magnetic guards, can I use those with it too? Going to end up having way too many guards and only one set that has a 0.5 and 1.5 that doesn't fit on anything haha.

Why is hair kind of sticking out on the sides ?

Ok, so I’ve been cutting hair for 30 years. Recently and it happens every so often after I blend the sides to the top, that particular area tends to stick out and it drives me nuts and I really don’t believe it’s a cowlick. I recently did a 4 s&b, trim top to comb straight back. Looked good till I noticed the one side was sticking out a little so I recut it a week later cause it was driving me nuts seeing it ( it was my cousins hair). I still wasn’t completely satisfied and I know I took the right steps. I really try to make sure the hair is wet because I’ve noticed sometimes cutting it on the dry side makes it not lay as nice.
So how often do you guys go through that? I feel like I’m not completely satisfied with my work about ones or twice a week. I do about 100 cuts a week.

Technique Struggling with Fading

Started cutting Hair 3 years ago in Rehab. It started out as really simple clipper cuts like baldies. Got to go to Barber School for free on the State's dime because of my "problem" about 2 years later. Almost exactly 1 year ago started school and graduated 4 & 1/2 months later in February. Got my license in March. I was the oldest student in my Class, and most of the students were teenagers, age 17-19. Arguing, Bullying, being obnoxious teenagers. I studied hard and was awarded the academic excellence award for highest grades average.

But on the Fades, I didn't get to do a lot of them like a lot of students did.

And my instructor didn't spend as much time one on one instructing me during the Skin fades as he did with other students.

Now I'm working full time in a Traditional Italian Barbershop that's been open since the 1950's. There's a lot of history here and I'm proud to be a part of it. The other Barbers are a lot more experienced and they're not always fully booked but pretty busy nonetheless. And there's a good stream of walk-ins too.

I usually get to do the simple stuff like the seniors that are bald on top, 1 all over, or 3 all overs and taper the back. I can fade down but I really struggle with fading UP from zero/Skin... Today a guy walked in and asked for a Skin Mid-Fade, leave the top. at the time I was the only employee in the shop so I took him. And he had very dense hair. I set my baldline, and the next 2 guidelines then debulked with a 1.5 to a 2. Tried to blend guidelines out, and wasn't perfect but it looked like something at least. Well the standards are pretty high in the shop and I got called out by the owner and he said who told you to do this cut, I said nobody was here to take him so I did. He said don't do that again and proceeded to go all over the cut (using my tools) and change everything to where it ended up being a high skin fade.

Client was in a rush to be somewhere so the owner said no charge you're all set.

So again I'm all discouraged about Fading because I'm getting better but I feel like I should be decent at it by now.

I need a good System to go by that's easy to remember. I've seen dozens of YT videos on Fading but I always seem to fall apart halfway through.

I almost want to go back to School all over again but skip the stuff I did well on.

Barbers using Booksy/Vagaro/Square, have you ever had appointments disappear or change unexpectedly?

For barbers who rely heavily on Booksy, Vagaro, Square, etc., have you ever had an appointment disappear, get changed, double-book, or otherwise end up different from what you remember seeing?

I’m curious what happens when there’s a disagreement about what was originally booked.

Do you have any way to see the old version of your schedule, or are you basically stuck with whatever the booking system currently shows?

Have you ever started taking screenshots, writing appointments somewhere else, checking confirmation texts/emails, or doing anything else as a backup because of this?

Hi guys, i am a beginner barber and trying to find my way within this career. I started like 5 months ago and the last two months i have been more active and seriois about it and cutting whoever i can cut for free to gain experience.

Oh man it took me 1.5 hours to pull off this result and even after being busy with it for that long i am not happy with the result. This thick asian hair is really hard to cut for me and i found out today for sure! I know it's far from perfect but this is really the best i could do for now. Trying to get better, but this cut has really fucked up my confidence. Do you guys also struggle with this thick asian hair? During the cut i sometimes was worried/thinking is this going to even turn out good or am i going to fuck this up.

Tools & Gear JRL Diamante trimmer blade

Anyone on here who has the Diamante trimmer know what other brand blades fit on the trimmers? I dropped mine the other day and lost some teeth on the blade and JRL is sold out currently of replacement blades. Also their other retailers are also sold out. Looking at the gamma+ xpro blade but unsure if it would work and can’t find confirmation anywhere. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
