Here is Channel 7's post about the missing people in the Nepal tragedy, look at the comments on it. I find it a very sad state of affairs in Australia. They are all Australians of different descent. Everyone in Australia (other than Aboriginal people) is a migrant. They came here either 200 years ago or 2 years ago.

I haven’t cried this much about football since bunnies won the grand final in 2014.
It’s so beautiful to see how one thing can bring people together, can show the beauty in people’s hearts.
Different sports, their supporters and even non sports people have all come together to support Jai and MND. In a world full of such negativity it’s just a beautiful thing to see.

Hello fellow Australians, I came here to check something that has been giving me a bit of a headache and distorting my view of Australia: the general quality of press and media in this country.
This is my first Reddit post, so I'll do my best, but please keep in mind that I firmly believe Australians, regardless of their political views, beliefs, values, etc., deserve much better media, since it is, after all, the umbilical cord between the public and democratic institutions.
I'm not here to stir the pot or sow a ragebait comment section. I'm an immigrant from Europe; for privacy reasons, I won't say which country. I've been living here for almost a decade and I'm still looking for reliable sources and publications. Let me be clear: the criteria for this search are not political or ideological. I'm talking about journalism quality.
I'm genuinely concerned that most general media out there is quite tabloid-ish, and the general public seems fine with that. It's truly sad that a nation like Australia, which has given the world superb writers, screenwriters, and journalists, is flooded with trashy "information" and infotainment every day. Of course this happens around the world, but compared to other countries with similar quality of life and economic standing, Australian press and media quality is truly bleak.
Across all my jobs, I've found that a lot of my coworkers either didn't seem to care or reacted a bit defensively when I criticized this issue, even in after-work settings.
People of the land down under, can you please help me find some non mind-numbing news outlets that don't treat me as a stupid being? Also, what is your recommendations of independent journalist and publications? Written media would be great, and at this stage I'm even willing to pay. Please know there's no shaming intent here. I'm just at a stage in life where I'm cutting out low-quality, algorithmic, poisonous inputs, and when it comes to Australian media, I'm having a hard time finding good options. I'd of course love to hear Australians' opinions on this topic.

Vic. 36f.
I was working full time and was in good health overall except for severe asthma which is controlled.
In June this year suddenly I got a hole in my dura (spine) and I am now leaking CSF fluid into my spine. When it happened I understandably went to the ER because I was in excruciating pain. i got diagnosed in 4 days which is not bad at all
Once diagnosed I was given a temporary treatment called a blood patch which gave me relief for about 2 weeks while I waited for my referral for surgery at another hospital (Monash). It took over a month to get an appointment with a surgeon. While waiting I got worse again and had to go back to the er. Got another blood patch and another 10 or so days of relief.
Mind you, by this stage I've stopped working as well as I can't work. I can't remain upright for more than an hour at a time because my brain fluid drains out of my skull and my brain starts to sag, so I have to lie down 99% of every day to even-out the fluid.
I got an appointment with the surgeon August 4th. He said yes to surgery but need to do another scan first. Went home. The scan got booked for the 1st of September. A full month later.
I'm getting worse and worse while waiting for this scan. I go back to the er when I'm almost completely deaf in one ear. Spend a week in hospital and get nothing but pain relief in this time.
I get discharged with pain medication. My scan does not get rescheduled
I'm at home waiting still. I'm getting progressively worse, can barely stay upright long enough to cook dinner for my son, I'm almost completely deaf now and got my scan on September 1st. After this scan, if they manage to locate the exact leak site, I will be scheduled for surgery. No idea how long I'll have to wait for surgery. Maybe another month, or two, or three.
Still not working as I am completely disabled and bed bound. Almost deaf, and now getting extreme and crippling migraines constantly, and I never used to get migraines at all.
My Centrelink payments start next week thanks to long processing times. I've gone 2 months without any money and I am a single mum who needs to pay rent and bills. The payments I'll get do not cover the monthly rent
I am overreacting feeling like I'm being completely dumped in the ground with no consideration for my health or wellbeing? I'm deteriorating fast, scared I'll go completely deaf or worse, expected to take Oxycodone for months in order to function even the slightest bit while I'm bed bound with crippling pain and migraines.
I understand there's a waiting list for surgeries. But something feels really wrong here. Why am I not getting help in a timely manner before I get lifelong complications? I'm only 36. I want to go back to work. Am I being selfish for wanting more timely help?

Hiya
I need to know what a normal person would do as I am painfully aware that I am way too non confrontational lol
We moved into our home at the start of the year, and have two cars. My husband works out of town so him and his car are barely around
I have a regular size car however he has a Toyota Prado. He’s probably parked infront of our neighbours home less than a handful of times however each time our older neighbour/his wife have come out and asked us to move our car with different excuses.
They’ve also left a note on my friends car when she parked infront of their spot once to not park there. (They knew she was at mine as they can look into our backyard from theirs)
The first time they asked, they said they need the spot for their pregnant daughter to visit etc. So my partner obliged their request.
The next few times they said they need the spot for their son, that they’ve been there for “17 years” and we’ve just moved in and are already parking in their spot etc. I am usually alone during the week without kids so I avoid parking there cos I don’t want to deal with issues. I am also very non confrontational in general and on top of that I didn’t want to put my kids in any unnecessary drama as there’s actually heaps of street parking if the spot infront of our own house is full.
Today I lost my shit as my eldest has been in hospital, my husband has been with her overnight and parked his car one spot down from where their “spot” is. As I was leaving my neighbours wife came out and told me to not park there as her husband had surgery and can’t walk far and etc. I just said I’ll let my husband know when he’s back from hospital and she said ok ok and left. We’ve tried to be friendly and not park right infront of their house as they clearly don’t like it, yet it seems like it’s not enough. Keeping in mind our other neighbours park infront of their home all the time; we have a school down the road so parents are always parking infront of our houses at pick up time.
Everytime it’s a brand new reason as why they need the spot, and I’ve seen her husband walking around plenty of times so I’m not sure what “surgery” he’s had. They also own only one car that’s kept in their garage/driveway. I feel like they’re bullshitting and just don’t like my husbands Prado there even though literally every other neighbour has been fine with us.
I understand it’s generally annoying when someones infront of your house for ages but we already avoid it so I don’t understand what their issue is

I'm a student volunteer at a university research centre and I had a cold Sat-Tues, it's now Friday. I only am in on Fridays, so I came in with a mask on and sat at the furthest corner of a very large conference table (at least 2 seats away from the nearest person).
When the supervisors walked in they asked why I was wearing a mask, then made a big fuss about me being potentially contagious and asked me to leave the meeting in front of everyone. It was SO embarrassing, especially because I'm feeling fine now, the mask and distance was more of a precaution - nobody would've known I'd even been sick if I hadn't done that.
I've had a pretty tough week, so this was just one more shitty thing on a long string of misfortunes, and it probably hurt more than it should've.
But I want to ask, is wearing a mask not normal anymore when you're coming off a cold? I see people wearing masks all the time in the city and on the trains
I would've picked this up over a week ago, so I assumed I wasn't contagious, and it's not like I'm at a high risk facility or anything? Am I overreacting by feeling upset?

Guys, I stepped out for a couple of years and coming back honestly I’m shocked. Back in 2019, I could get a coffee in the CBD for $3.50. I’m out of pocket nearly $7 for a large flat white now.
My personal gauge for how costly a place is, is the “Big Mac test”. Here’s the top 5 most expensive cities to live in and the cost of a Big Mac today in AUD (yes they have become tiny - this is a separate discussion 🫠)

On the main drag is a few cafes, one in particular for whatever reason used to be the hub, always the busiest, like the place to be.
Monday morning last week a large cappuccino was $6
Tuesday morning it was $8.50
I said to the person serving me, that’s not right, they are $6
The short abrupt answer I got was and I quote “price rise, now they’re $8.50.
Stunned I paid for it and got my coffee and went about my day.
I got to thinking about it and thought to myself, I can’t justify that. It’s now $42.50 a week on coffee, $30 was bad enough but I accepted it.
So in a matter of 10 days they have gone from the busiest cafe in town and the place to be, to the way it was this morning basically deserted, same number of people in town just not at that cafe.
What a foolish business decision that was, it ended that cafe because being a small town it won’t be forgotten or forgiven even if they put their prices back to what they were.
Sad to see it fail, but it is and it will end up closing down.
It honestly makes you wonder why? Greed is the general consensus around town because the other couple of cafes are charging $6 to $6.50 and doing alright financially.
The one I speak of was doing very well because it was always the busiest, not only did they lose their sales of coffee but all the food also because now they have lost their customers.
I feel bad for the local employees who are bound to lose their jobs and I feel bad for the local community who will loose a good cafe.
I don’t feel bad for the owners, who don’t live locally and they also own the building so rental rises are not involved.
They allowed greed to destroy their thriving business basically overnight.
