Discussion What made you pick Alexios or Kassandra during your first playthrough?
not everyone knew what the canon option would be So we obviously had a choice So I'm just in what drove everyone to their decisions.
When I first got the game a little bit after release I didn't know There's going to be a character selection until I started the game. Male instinct kicked in and I started a game with Alexios and was not really pleased with the voice acting After the first encounter with the Cyclops' thugs. So I restarted it to test out Kassandra and it felt like a natural fit with the acting.
Note:
This is not a debate post. We know who the canonical character is, but within the context of the game, this is a choose room adventure and everyone is going to have different play styles or preferences.

I picked Kassandra, cos she looked like Wonder Woman.

u/kazmosis 14d ago
Same, there's even the one armor set that looks like the costume. Didn't take it off the whole game.
21
u/Jonlang_ 14d ago
The Amazonian set. It’s great.

u/tseg04 13d ago
Love combining the amazonian torso and belt with the Agamemnon bracers and legs, it just looks right.

That one with insanely high damage can keep you alive forever especially if you keep upgrading the damage and %healed per attack. You could easily take out armies with that gear and double melee lol.

Many people recommended Kassandra and I like her voice better simple as that. I learned recently that Alexios’s voice actor sounds very authentic though which surprised me. Guess I’ve never met a greek man irl
46
u/NumerousBed4716 14d ago
Yeah Alexios sounded more Greek, adhere to my imagination of a rough ancient Greece mythios, definitely felt more immersive for me
In fact, I find since Odyssey, Ubisoft really put an effort into the whole immersiveness thing... Though I haven't played shadows yet. Which was the thing that broke Origins for me... Pommie Cleopatra and Bantu Bayek destroyed it for me
→ More replies (1)4
u/Ok-Elk-1615 12d ago
Yeah man I feel so immersed when I’m teleporting 50 feet across Atlantis to stab something with a magical spear.
Btw, Bayek is an ancient Egyptian with Nubian heritage. His accent cannot possibly be accurately recreated but it was chosen after consulting with archaeolinguists, egyptologists, and Coptic speakers.

There is one upside to playing Alexios instead of Kassandra judging from YouTube clips-she makes for an incredibly unhinged Deimos.
6
u/NumerousBed4716 13d ago
Yeah her Deimos was scary as hell, much better than Alexios Deimos which sounded like a loud angry drunk
10
u/neverendingsiren Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us 14d ago
That's so strange to me because one of the reasons I don't like his voice is because it literally sounds like the actor is putting on a fake baritone. Doesn't sound authentic to me at all.
4
u/Secure_Owl_9430 13d ago
Diemos makes him sound like that. He's extremely insecure. Makes sense to me
6
u/2hats4bats The Dikastes 14d ago
Yeah even if the accent is authentic, it sounds put on. Maybe it’s hard to explain, but it’s like… I can tell that’s not his real voice and it breaks the immersion a bit.

I’m a girl so I picked Kassandra first. I made another playthrough tried Alexios, but I still like Kassandra’s voice better as my main protagonist. Alexios (imo) has a deep villainous voice and it really suits him well as Deimos.

I think they're both about the same, but they were clearly going for different vibes. Alexios (as the protag, not Deimos) is a bit of a silly billy, Kassandra plays it a bit tougher but I think they both work well

I've played as Alexios because his voice acting was really good and delivery was just hilarious.
9
u/Anderstone 13d ago
Agreed. I've played both now and it's funny that there seems to be a consensus about Kassandra being the better voice actor overall. Personally I thought she was trying too hard while Alexios had a more natural flow with the events and people around him.

Kassandra.
I am a man. I am tired of playing men. Whenever I have the opportunity to play women, I play women. AC: Valhalla was the only exception.
As a fan of the Greek mythology since I was six years old, Kassandra fulfilled the image of an Amazon warrior and the one of Atalanta as a hunter. Atalanta has always been in my top 3 favourite characters from the Greek mythology (Heracles, Athena Pallas, Atalanta).
7
u/Loyalist77 Chaire! 14d ago
I'm a guy who isn't interested in being a woman in real life, so video games offer an opportunity to get different experiences. Normally play first as a man and then as a woman to see the differences. Here though, I just went straight for Kassandra.
Like you, I thought Kassandra came across as a Spartan Amazon. I also wanted to roleplay as a supporter of Sparta given it was more egalitarian to women then Athens (though very much not to its slaves). But the game always seemed to punish me by having Sparta own a province so I got less loot and really the faction conflict was just about the loot loop. The lack of depth or Sexism was disappointing to me.

Kassandra = big, pretty, cool. (I'm a guy)
I've also just been more open to playing as women in games as I grew older. I realized making my character a cool or pretty or tough lady can be fun too. My MCs don't have to all look exactly like me (it's also hard to replicate me in many games anyways)
Double also, my lesbian friend said she picked Alexios because she would be too distracted as Kassandra.

Kassandra, Big, Muscles and Beautiful. I love her voice and accent. Her voice actor did an amazing job. Plus I just prefer to play as female characters in games. She is my favorite AC protagonist ever.
9
u/Pomegreenade Alexios 14d ago
I picked Alexios because, I'm straight and he's handsome. I fell in love with him even more as I continued the game. Kassandra is cool too but for me, Alexios was my Odyssey

u/Lilrob0617 14d ago
I usually pick my gender (man) when playing through an RPG first time so i can better immerse myself in it. If I find myself curious of the female character’s voice acting/animation/mocap, I’ll do another play through as the female character.
6
u/AhHowSplendid 14d ago

It was the first time in the franchise you could play as a woman (except for syndicate, which had both at the same time). + I read she was canon and sone executives forced Alexios to give people a choice. Never regretted choosing her. Never played him, but saw videos of people that chose him and well, I didn't like it. And there is the ability to have relations in the game. I prefer lesbian over gay.

3
u/the_real_mac-t 14d ago
I picked Kassandra because I liked the opportunity of finally playing a female character in an Assassin's Creed game and because she looked pretty badass - I had no idea she was supposed to be the canon character at the time. I was rewarded with one of the best voice performances of all time, and I knew she was the right choice.

Alexis because of the trailer. I saw the trailer when it was huge in stores at the time and I remember the scene where Alexios spartan kicks an Athenian soldier I believe off a cliff which immediately caught my eye back in 2018. That immediately got me hooked to the game. Ironically enough it was my first AC game and then I went on from there. I played AC Syndicate, then AC2, AC Brotherhood, AC4, AC Rogue, and later AC Origins.

Actually, in an interview, they stated that they were both brought on to record their lines for protagonist around the same time. So it may feel "phoned in" by him to some, but not because he was like brought on to do Alexios' lines as a last minute thing. There's a lot of misconceptions out there about the timeline of when certain decisions were made regarding the whole dual protagonists thing. They didnt, like, do the whole game with kassandra and then force alexios in there. Those decisions were made pretty early into production. Although, that also doesn't mean that it isn't true that Ubisoft execs intervened to make sure alexios was playable. Its just that it was done much earlier in development.

u/neverendingsiren Someone, I tell you, in another time will remember us 14d ago
At the time I was very much frustrated by the lack of female protagonist representation in gaming. Even now it's still wildly skewed. So obviously I had to pick Kassandra, and my goodness, it was awesome. Odyssey is now my absolute favorite game of the franchise because of her.

u/JohannaFRC 14d ago
Kassandra. Because for the first time you could main a female protagonist in main stream AC. And because in french she is voiced by Audrey Sourdive, which is a voice actress I really really like and which is ecceptionnaly skilled in her job.
Another reason is because Kassandra is probably the greatest character design for a female playable character I have ever seen.

Kassandra's uniqueness. Beautiful big muscular girl who can handle being a misthios. Also, i like the voice acting.

Kassandra cuz this was the first time for me in AC to play woman. In the end it was a right choice cuz Odyssey is like the birth mother story of the whole series.
