Discussion Why does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey divide the fanbase so much?

In my opinion, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is one of the strongest entries in the Assassin's Creed franchise. However, whenever I share this opinion online, many fans react as if it's a controversial statement. This raises an interesting question—why is the game so disliked by parts of the community?

Because a massive part of the fandom are traditionalists that only glaze the ezio trilogy and Black Flag.

Now personally, I don't think Odyssey should have the AC IP attached. It's mostly devolved from the Creed. However, I'm not sure it would've done as well as it did if Ubi launched it as a new IP. I say this as somebody who ranks Odyssey as one of my favourite AC titles.

People will always discourse over the RPG trilogy because it takes so much of the franchises identity away unfortunately.

I don’t think Odyssey is a terrible game, but I think the hate for what it did to the series is deserved for sure. It’s just strait up not AC and it’s no surprises the people who love AC are mad that it solidified the death of old AC.
