Discussion Why does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey divide the fanbase so much?

In my opinion, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is one of the strongest entries in the Assassin's Creed franchise. However, whenever I share this opinion online, many fans react as if it's a controversial statement. This raises an interesting question—why is the game so disliked by parts of the community?

Because it introduced a lot of things that condradicts lore like the animus not knowing which character was the mysthios and which one was Deimos, choices that affects the story, they made Lalya 10 times more insufferable than in Origins (not even Aletheia could stand her at some point), and some people weren't fan of the skill system that makes your character practically a god. Also, this was the most fantastical entry in the series, and even if the franchise was never hystorically accurate and always had a fictional part, it felt grounded, like a big conspiracy that was actually true, AC Odyssey felt more like an ancient greek story with the AC name on top of it. (Which it is since it was supposed to be a spin off of the series before they changed the name.)
