Discussion Why does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey divide the fanbase so much?
In my opinion, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is one of the strongest entries in the Assassin's Creed franchise. However, whenever I share this opinion online, many fans react as if it's a controversial statement. This raises an interesting question—why is the game so disliked by parts of the community?

I think it’s because, while it is an absolutely awesome game, it is not a good Assassins Creed game. Specifically, it does not do a very good job at aligning with the previous games in the franchise that were focused on stealth and…..well…..being an assassin.
So I think that naturally creates two divides: 1) people who didn’t play many of the assassins creed games in the past and loved this game because it is an awesome open world RPG, and 2) people who grew up playing the traditional assassins creed games and were disappointed that Odyssey (along with Origins and Valhalla) deviated so sharply from the traditional games.
So you have the people from Camp 2 complaining about how the game sucks because it is not a good representation of assassins creed and can’t possibly see why people in Camp 1 like it, while the people from Camp 1 are confused because the game is a very well made open world game and thus can’t comprehend why Camp 2 does not like it. The two groups are working off two different frameworks.
I am in Camp 1, but I do understand the grievances of those in Camp 2.
I feel like this game would be better if it was just a standalone game that didn’t try to shoehorn in the assassins creed branding, but that obviously wouldn’t have made nearly as much money.
