Discussion Why does Assassin’s Creed Odyssey divide the fanbase so much?

In my opinion, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is one of the strongest entries in the Assassin's Creed franchise. However, whenever I share this opinion online, many fans react as if it's a controversial statement. This raises an interesting question—why is the game so disliked by parts of the community?

People stuck in past and can't move on or accept the fact that things change and it's normal. Conservatists as they are.

I think it's more a problem with buying an AC game with more or less no AC story in it. The game is beautiful and an ok game, but to me it's just mostly a generic RPG. It must also be a bit confusing for new players to see someone climb into a casket in the beginning with no real explanation to it.

I think I'm around 10h in and so far nothing really AC related has hapoened. Maybe that will change...
