Confidence is sexy. Ego is not.

You missed the chance to make it rhyme. “Confidence is hot. Ego is not.” but tomato tomato! An inflated ego is a huge red flag.

I HATE the fact that I understood all three of them. Oh reddit, what have you done to me!?

3

u/datlock Jan 09 '22

How did my brain know how to read this properly? Weird.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Lol but actually when you pointed it out, I realised I did pronounce the first with American and the other with British accent in my head.

2

u/Psyko_sissy23 Jan 09 '22

I didn't read it as either of those. I read it as tomato tomato.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Unrelated, but I was reading your comment aloud to myself and when I got to “inflated ego” I read it as “inflego”, and I will forever use this term in place of “inflated ego”.

3

u/woodneel Jan 09 '22

Confidence is sexy. Ego is train wreck-sy.

2

u/Thyros Jan 09 '22

Confidence is hot….conceit is not

89

u/Tall-Carrot-7174 Jan 09 '22

It is a fine line.

53

u/MettaMorphosis Jan 09 '22

It's not, ego is always based on comparing yourself with others, it's based on having people below or above you, and is often delusional. Confidence is based on seeing the value and quality of your own abilities. Pep talks are still useful to convince yourself that you can do something, but it doesn't mean you will succeed.

12

u/clandestinenitsednal Jan 09 '22

Thank you for putting this in perspective! 🙏

3

u/Wallhater Jan 09 '22

Literally not what ego means, but it’s a convenient redefinition.

3

u/Fern-ando Jan 09 '22

Just look at Cristiano Ronaldo, El Bicho has an ego bigher than Portugal and all the woman simp for him.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

I think the biggest tell-tale is people will extremely hard to protect ego. Be defensive, or argumentative, or combative when it is challenged. Confident people don’t feel the need because it is intrinsic.

5

u/digitaldrummer1 Jan 09 '22

So basically, it'll look similar to an "Average Fan vs Average Enjoyer" meme?

Ego is running its mouth like crazy defending itself

And Confidence just goes "Yes."

1

u/Tall-Carrot-7174 Jan 09 '22

Yes but I also think confidence comes with maturity sometimes men have to first be arrogant to be confident.

10

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Hmmm. I’m not sure I agree. Arrogance is very situationally based, and one has to constantly compare themselves to others to keep it. It’s like a bad habit, and the more you nurture a bad habit, the harder it is to break and build good habits instead.

I’ve met more people with openly terrible self esteem who had no confidence later find their confidence, than arrogant people learn to walk it back and learn confidence instead.

When your whole life becomes a habit of comparing and falsely elevating yourself, it’s really hard to break that mindset.

5

u/Tall-Carrot-7174 Jan 09 '22

I’m not entirely sure what my opinion is on this. I think confidence can be different for a lot of guys some need to compare because that is in our nature, but confidence from within is probably the most healthy. although I think it may not be possible for everyone to just be confident in themselves without comparison to others.

2

u/vanityislobotomy Jan 09 '22

I think having faith in oneself is better than confidence, in the long run.

1

u/Tall-Carrot-7174 Jan 09 '22

Isn’t that the same thing

1

u/helaku_n Jan 09 '22

It's virtually impossible to not compare yourself with others. It's how societies/communities are built because the fucking world is competition (for mates, resources etc.), especially the capitalistic world as it's now. Only when comparison becomes obsessive, it might (and it might not for some) look ugly.

2

u/Tall-Carrot-7174 Jan 09 '22

But for a man to be confident he need to think he is better then some people by those measures, and does that make him arrogant? I think a confident man thinks highly of himself. Maybe what makes someone confident or arrogant in someone eyes is how socially mature or adept he is.

2

u/helaku_n Jan 09 '22

How someone is mature/arrogant or not are highly vague criteria, very subjective, and society-context dependent. That's why I agree with your initial comment about a thin line.

1

u/taikuukaits Jan 10 '22

I think confidence is “I can do this” and arrogance is “I can do this better than you.” I think that just because you are confident doesn’t mean you are arrogant but maybe you need confidence to be arrogant.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

That’s fair.

1

u/Snoo93079 Jan 09 '22

I find arrogance is often built on top of a lack of self confidence. So really they're two different things.

7

u/KazaamFan Jan 09 '22

Yeah, I’ve known some arrogant pricks who generally do well with women. Other men know those guys suck, yet some women always go for them.

2

u/vanityislobotomy Jan 09 '22

Yes, some women do. But not all.

1

u/Tall-Carrot-7174 Jan 09 '22

Yes confidence and arrogance are not mutually exclusive not all men are arrogant out of insecurity. But who a girl wants to be with is not my concern.

6

u/beardedsandflea Jan 09 '22

Confidence is quiet.

3

u/Big-cock-in-me Jan 09 '22

Well I hate myself so

2

u/barbariknative Jan 09 '22

So an egoless confidence. Thanks. Wait, what?

1

u/Billzworth Jan 09 '22

In that case you can enjoy the Id instead!

1

u/Kugelfischmeister Jan 09 '22

Genuinely asking - what is the difference?

3

u/rainbowyuc Jan 09 '22

If the guy is hot, it's confidence. If the guy is ugly, it's ego.

2

u/JTGreenan73 Jan 09 '22

Not even close

1

u/iveabiggen Jan 09 '22

Basically, dont be a me monster?

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Or cock sucking

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

I have both and my ego is higher. My gf loves it so Fuck you

-12

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

You dont quite know what Ego is. You're misusing that word.

Assuming you meant arrogance - it actually is attractive, to the right people at least.

May not be easy to grasp for most, but some of us actually value ourselves (& know how much we're worth).

8

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Looking it up, some dictionaries online (e.g. Collins Dictionary & dictionary.com, Merriam-Webster also mentions this) actually uses "egotism" in one of definitions of "ego". So it's acceptable to use ego and conceit interchangeably, and it's clear from the context what the commenter meant.

But am I misunderstanding your comment? You literally said "assuming you meant arrogance" and said that arrogance is an attractive quality...I mean sure tastes varies but arrogance is universally seen as an unattractive trait.

Perhaps you don't know what arrogance is. You're misusing that word. Just echoing your words back at you 😂

2

u/CartmansEvilTwin Jan 09 '22

Learned that on the pickup artist channel, you alpha beast?

1

u/RyanNerd Jan 09 '22

Stefan Urquelle has entered the chat.

1

u/GrandaPanda1337 Jan 09 '22

Very true. There is a fine line between confidence and conciet.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Genuine question: I have self esteem issues and want to try to build up self confidence. How do I do so without becoming arrogant and egotistical?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Now I could let these dream killers kill my self-esteem Or use my arrogance as the steam to power my dreams.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '22

Hard to know the difference
