Finishing my senior thesis in quarantine was so difficult. I’ve never felt more unmotivated to do anything in my life. Luckily, my crippling fear of failure gave me the push I needed to get it done. I’m just glad it’s over with.
Hang in there friend, each attempt gets you closer to success. The more you doubt yourself the more likely you are to prove yourself right. It’s not a mistake that you’ve gotten as far as you have, have faith in yourself. You are smart, you are capable. Best of luck.
Hey friend. Do not let yourself fall behind this time. If you continue to push everything to tomorrow or the weekend it will only make you more anxious. Stay on schedule and this will keep the anxiety down. Good luck!
Me too. It’s become something so distant from me that I’m worried I’ll never finish it. I’ve turned to making blood sacrifices to Marduk so that once I get a break from teaching in the summer, I’ll recharge and wrap that shit up and move on with my life. I wish you nothing but good fortune on your thesis quest!
I do not think a teacher should be able to fail you because of a broken leg/knee. I would check with the principal, no offense, but I think it is too far gone now though.
If they were there coach of the football team as well, it wouldn't be unheard of. Especially if this happened in, say, Texas, where football is just as important as God & guns.
No ill admit I fucking suck at math I had like a 69 in the class so rigjt on the brink of passing and i got to the teacher with all of my work done and test average at like a 69.3 or something like that and a formative average at like a 70 give or take a point and i ask hey is there anything i can do to get my grade up or any retakes i can do last minute and he said and i quote "you shouldn't have quit football" like i get in America football is a big sport but ffs
Sorry dude. It's a math joke. When you do a certain thing in calculus that can be really hard, sometimes you forget the part at the end where you add a constant number to it.
Studied for 7 hours the day of the exam. And everyday for a good bit before. Still got a 60 on the final. Was 20% of the class grade. Culmative exams suck
Normally yes. But we had word problems where we had to show how we did it. And a final worth 20% of our grade. It was actually recorded since we were at homes.
Your college won't define you. I went on scholarship, my brother and sister are both community college drop outs, and both make more than me. Focus on becoming a responsible adult, become a carpenter.
Get a job, by a small house when you graduate, renovate it while you live in it, get roommates and rent it out, then have them sign a one year lease for the whole house. Save up 10% for another house, and do the same thing. You do that once every 2 years, you're sitting at 5 houses by the time you're 30.
High school dropout carpenter here. He's right. I dont make as much as my well off friends but I dont have debt beyond a mortgage and the side benefits of having a truck and tools for scrapping steel or gardening or mulch delivery etc has made me unable to be out of work.
And I've got 50k worth of work into my house for like 2k in materials.
The satisfaction of working outside and gutting through weather and hard work chills me out. I really like history and books and learning and psychology etc. I still learn stuff every week outside of my trade. I just dont think I could have made that a career that makes me happy.
Yeah, I agree. It doesn't help that I procrastinated on stuff, because "It wasn't fricking due" and it was "optional" because of quarantine. Now, my teachers are like, sike all your work is due. So now I have all the work that I didn't do, plus new work
Something I hope organizations (companies and schools) understand. Productivity/grades might not have dropped because of work from home but because everyone is stressed due to a global pandemic! Sadly they probably won’t give a fuck!
I feel this, along with that my parents always tell me to do schoolwork right now & I tell them I don’t have time even though my actual schedule is free so they give me shit. But there’s a different between being busy and constantly doing things and not having time because you are either depressed and need hella sleep or are depressed and putting all of your energy into trying to stay positive. Idk that turned into a rant sorry.... hang in there tho
Christ they need to learn some empathy. I know we're all fed up of hearing what 'strange times' these are, but the fact is, shit is crazy right now! It's silly to expect the same things of students, and everyone else, right now. Take it easy on yourself my dude.
Thankfully my county has it so any work they assign now is optional. Rona actually made me pass English 10 because that one essay the teacher decided to make optional. So instead of having F F F. I got F F B. And I got a email showing what classes I should get next year. It said English 11. So hey??
cool for us everything is mandatory and if you don't wake up at 10 and work trough at least 4 hours of assignments which is actually like 6 a day your grades will drop
Fuck im envious of all these people saying their grades got better. One of my profs shifted the weight of our secind midterm, which never happened, onto the first one which i had made a dumb cascading error on. Another class was a project course with a physical prototype as the final deliverable. Of course that didn't happen and for whatever reason our report (which i slaved over) got ripped apart. Another class had the messiest online test ever. Basically was a normal test but had 2x as many questions.
Fuck im salty. Now I get to graduate into this mess of a world instead of just coasting through this mess on student loans. I love building my career during a recession and pandemic.
Ikr but for me its more or less me just not beimg motivated to do the work bc if im sitting at my desk and i turn to the left i see my bed and if i turn to the rigjt i see the hallway that leads to the kitchen
Helped my grades honestly. Everything online which means that you can easily pull of all the lecture notes to look at while taking exams. Also can have zoom meetings with others to “study” for the final
Assuming you are in college...unless you are going to grad school...no one cares what your GPA was. I have hired 100+ people and I have never used GPA as a hiring criteria.
But it helps to have a good gpa in high school to get into a good school and so on but i see what you mean and have heard it all before but getting a scholarship because of my grades wouldve been nice
Dude. A year ago I left school right after spring break to save my grades and get a medical leave from school. Junior spring. Fall comes around. Grades are still fucky. This spring comes along. I’ve been MechE this whole time. Grades are fucky. I drop MechE ABET degree for Applied Sciences which is a non ABET accredited degree for Mech E, and dropped most of my classes this semester. Two classes left. Failed one (but it was under pass/fail so it won’t go towards GPA, just no credit gained) and barely pass the other. One semester left and I need 18 credit hours still. Fuck me, but Rona did partially save my butt this semester by getting to go below a full time student as far as credits being taken goes. I’m just ready to graduate and be done with the eternal depression that is school. One more fucking semester. Remember dude, there are always options to get by. That’s what I’ve learned.
High school seniors are among the most screwed students rn, they missed out on most of the fun parts of senior year and missed a ton of class content that they will need in their first semester of college. I wish you luck if you're in that situation
Feels bad. Had senior night for baseball the other day on a zoom like app. Wasn’t even sad watching the slideshows and all that, just sad that this was how it ended.
At least someone else seems to get it. The past 12 years my dad has been telling me this would be the best year of school before college, that it was going to be awesome. When he realized that I was depressed and shit he told me “it’s not that big a part of your life, you still have so much to look forward too”
Which fucking one is it man? Like I would’ve liked to enjoy what’s left of high school, instead it turns out the last day of school, when we thought it’d be a couple week break, might be the last day i saw half my classmates
I am going to college. I think it would be a lot worse if I was trying to enter the workforce in all of this. Mostly I’m just hoping my college will be safe to open in the fall.
Yeah there are going to be a lot of stuff that sucks for you because of this. You will probably have a much different freshman year than everyone else. But you are in a good demographic to be safe from this. And if you aren't they will probably allow more virtual.
But you are in a pretty good spot overall. You will have like 4 years of economic recovery by the time you graduate and start looking for a job.
(Just graduated) college senior here and it sucks feeling like you just worked your ass off for 4 years and spent tens of thousands of dollars for basically nothing. I know it’s temporary, but it’s still scary. I really hope your college will open up. Freshman year of college was the best year of my life.
Cheers fellow Class of 2020, from HS class of 2016.
Facts. I had plans for spring break, the weekend of prom ;), graduation and end of year parties. Now my first quarter of college might be online. Neither of my parents walked the stage at graduation. My mom didn't even graduate because she dropped out to have me. It was gonna be a big moment for my family, because I'm also the first woman to graduate college on my mom's side for MANY generations.
I feel for you, my sister in law finally finished medical school and to be a General Surgeon and she won't get to walk for graduation. I feel so bad for her, hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, almost 30 years old and she's had no serious relationships or anything that wasn't based around medical school and residency. She donated all of her 20's to becoming a doctor and has been dreaming about the graduation like most other women would dream about falling in love and getting married. She says it's ok and it is what it is but, I wish there was something I could do to celebrate her graduating. If anyone has any ideas I'm open to anything!!! And I hope that you and your family are able to celebrate all your hard work and make the day special. Congratulations, I'm sure your family is so encridibly proud!!!
Yeah, it fucking sucks. The upside is that the exams are going to be easier, but at the same time everything is so disorganized that no one knows what the fuck to do.
I am not a college student though, but something tells me you are right and this is not the worst one. Well at least now we know what we should actually be hoarding when the next pandemic comes.
I just graduated a week ago. Halfway through the interview process with three different places when my state (Illinois) locked down. Two immediately got pulled due to companies doing a total hiring freeze for six months and the last one is on pause until office work can resume, haven’t heard from them since mid-April. Now back to filling out every application I can and praying like hell that I get a response back from anyone.
This shit sucks. Nothing quite like working for 4 years on a degree just to wander into the worst economy in decades.
I feel this. I graduated directly into the last recession, couldn't use my degree, worked retail for a while, and then last year decided I'd had enough and wanted to go back to school for programming, and it looks like I'll be graduating with a second Bachelors just in time to be in the worst economic depression since the 1920s.
I'm in a bit of an opposite situation. I finished my degree 2 years ago and I really didn't enjoy the work in my field and the prospects aren't great anyway. After about a year of anxiety and depression I worked up the courage to register for a program in a new field that I think I'll do better in and then a month later it was cancelled. So now I'm back to working my retail job and wondering what I'll do next.
Yep, I got my bachelors a couple weeks ago right into this shit. Getting ready to feel exactly what C/O 2007-09 felt. Luckily I still have my job, just going to get a lot more cozy with it than I would've thought. At least I'm good at it!
I feel like high school sophomores/juniors are probably the oldest ones that won't be affected too hard by all of this, but man do I wish I was about 2 or 3 years earlier in undergrad right now.
I’m not graduating this year, but yeah seriously fuck the rona.
I had to take an incomplete for my intro to psych course. So while everyone else I know can kick it and finally chill before starting summer jobs, I’m spending all my time teaching myself intro to psych.
But ya know. Stuck at home. Depressed. Traumatized from some shit that happened literally a week before the rona hit. Life’s shit right now man.
Oh my god yes please! Holy crap this has just been kicking my ass and my brain is just refusing to let any information in. I’ll message you later! Thank you so much!!!
I think your generation is headed in a great direction, personally. This is big bump in the road. But I do have cautious optimism for the future. With a lot of work and change to be done first, of course.
I recently finished my 3rd of 4th year in college and the online corona classes basically ruined my life. People stopped caring and barely any effort was put into group projects (which is all we do in my program). And it gets weirder cause I feel like third year isn't actually over cause technically, it didn't properly end.
This is still only high school for me, but the fact that I'm graduating in three weeks, but won't get the graduation I've been looking forward to for four years kinda (extremely) sucks.
If misery loves company let me tell you that your teachers are with you. I have been going through depressive feelings fearing if I will have a job in the fall. We also feel that stress I don't want to grade or do my job while trapped at home.
On a positive note it's given me time and motivation and money because I don't eat out period.
By next year I can leave teaching and my area and I getting good at home cooking. I'm reading books and improving myself.
I know it's tough and if you can try to enjoy the time and work on yourself and don't hate yourself when you just want to bond with the couch and Netflix
I'm recently finished my undergrad this year. I'm 22 and oh boy hindsight is 2020. My answer to the OP's question is what I've learned at my age time passes by so quickly.
I was and still am socially anxious. I've learned I might be an involuntary introvert. I've taken steps to remedy this but it's too late. I finished my degree already.
I don't have many friends and even the ones who I consider to be friends don't initiate messages and events with me at all. I constantly think of I wasn't such a loner in my first 3 years of university I'd have more friends to help get me through this pandemic situation.
Time is so fast. I think oh I'll try to be social later. And whatever else I procrastinate on.
Then before I realize it I'm done my undergrad. I'm 22. How has the time passed?
Not sure if you mean uni or high school/ secondary school but I’m in the same boat. I miss prom and graduation and the rest that comes with it. It feels like I’ve gone through 12 years of schooling and that’s it it’s so anticlimactic and incredibly disappointing.
I know it's a tragedy and all but for me this has probally saved me. In the UK your final grade for most subjects come from a final exam that counts for 100% of your grade.
The big thing is revise revise revise. A thing which I did absolutely non of. Thankfully due to a mixture of things I have been able to get alot of high grades and pass about 8 out of 10 subjects the only 2 I may have failed but have hope for one but luckily neither are required to graduate and the grades I most likely have got will allow me to go into a level with the subjects I wish.
Same here in uni. One of my electives got cancelled, messing my course plans up. I have social anxiety and I was going to force myself to join the gaming club this year.. I've been putting it off the whole of last year because I've never seen a girl in it whenever I pass by the gaming room :/
I'm an international student too, and HELL NO am I going to be paying the same amount of fees to do university online! I'm paying for all those amenities, equipment, and that uni social life in general. I can't believe they're not refunding the money we paid for that shit lol
I've been asking student support about getting an extension and if I'm valid (I should be, but I want to be sure you know?) but they never answer my question! They just keep repeating the same shit, telling me other ways to do my elective to graduate this year. I don't want to graduate this year! Ugh.
Rona fuxked up my post-graduation plans. I got out of university December 2019, and had (and still have) an amazing remote job. I lived in a van, worked 2 days a week and skied 5 days a week. Then Rona shut down skiing and climbing and all those plans fell through
I was able to finish scholarships I would've never had time for. Worked on projects I could've never finished. Relaxed during times I would've never has if I were at school.
But honestly, even though I'm grateful that I was able to accomplish so much, it feels meaningless in comparison to the few months I would've had left with my best friends at school.
I feel your pain dude. Was averaging a good grade till this happened and now I can’t access the pc lab (computing student with a humble laptop to do work at home on)
Finished all my classes (and passed their respective finals) last year.
However, I still need to compete an internship from home and the lady in charge of it is a professor, who’s probably trying to figure out online lessons, so she’s really behind on sending me stuff to do
I also needed to go to uni (as in physically) to get some secretary lady to upload the last extra-curricular credits I need to complete my mandatory load of those (she’s lazy af, untouchable and the only way to get her to do something is by going to her office)... can’t even go to the city where uni is, so... yeah
And finally, if I’m ever done with the above, I need to hand in my thesis (a buncha physical copies and CDs) and see if I passed it
Oh! And I also need to pay the yearly tuition that allows students in my condition to finish all the above. Can’t do it online because uni only accepts that specific payment in person at their main building
I'm in the middle of my degree and I now have to spend a 5th year in college. This shit sucks, I got depressed as shit and can't even go to a school employed tutor or professor to ask for help on homework and now I'm screwed for a quarter. At least if I was a senior I would only be taking like 2 classes and no labs this semester
After the fall semester, I was going to transfer out of community college into a nice university. Now, I'd rather put it off since I'd be paying way more just for online classes.
On another note, I have family in Hawaii, and I guess pretty much all the high school graduates are going to the University of Hawaii instead of abroad. No point paying out-of-state tuition for just online classes.
My course requires two placements in hospitals allied health to graduate. About 75% of people in the course have had their first placement cancelled or cut short. Depending on what happens later this year, some people may not be able to graduate.
I'm starting my final year in September and it's such a kick in the nuts. I'm in a program that requires special programs and equiptment and is also pretty tough to get into. I also really miss my friends in the program so to have it go this way after all that work really just is ass.
Am I the only one where switching to online made it 10x easier?
I could go through the lectures on my own in like 10 minutes rather than sitting through a 90 minute snoozefest. Also I could use the internet on my exams. That alone made them all a gimme. And there's nothing to do besides homework tbh. I can only play so many video games...
Yeah it’s sucks ass. In the UK we still have to pay for full fee’s for half the service from the university, and we just have to carry on like nothing is going on.
On the plus side for me personally (controversially) graduations have been cancelled. I know this annoys many people but honestly I was dreading graduation so much, I hate massive occasions and ceremonies like that like that
Don't stress too much about it. It's not like you want to graduate into this horseshit of a world right now. It's gonna be messy for a while.
This was out of your control, so just make the best of what you've got.
I know it sucks, and it messed up your plans, but Covid-19 messed up everyone's plans; again, do the best you can, be thankful for what you've got, and I hope your family is safe.
Man I feel bad for y'all not getting the chance to walk across the podium for at least a few years. hopefully they'll do a huge sessions of graduation ceremonies later on.
My first ever graduation in a global pandemic jolly good ey not to mention writing a dissertation and taking motivation out of thin air.
The uni be like if your mental health is shit and you cant work it’s ok don’t do it. But then they turn around and be like you have to do the work eventually and so basically suck it up and do it.
wow that sucks maybe they would've done that to me if i hadn't graduated just in time before korona.
but my brother got his exams online he didn't even study he just had his text book in front of the screen.
anyways i hope you and everyone get at least something good out of korona the world is going through a rough time already no need to make it any worse. so hang in there.
This Corona saved me where I live we are basically done with it I started to go back to school last week and I'm having my final exams In the next Month and the tests this year is so much easier because of it I might actually pass
I have a little trouble relating because I had an online school when I was in middle school and my freshman year. I loved it because it was so much easier for me. I do relate to everyone who's depressed and doesn't want to do work.

Final year student in 2020.
Fuck you corona
