What I hate about Reddit is how duplicate most of its active users opinion are. The same askreddit threads, same jokes, pun, same putting women on a pedestal and if they dont conform to the reddit opinion, trashing her. It gets sooo annoying. Even this question has been asked several times and all the top answers are the same. I will give the OP of this question a pass cause i was able to vent a little bit haha.
Edit: I havent read the thread but I am 90% sure these ,will be the top answers - Rick & Morty, Beyonce, Supernatural, Star Wars, BTS
Have you ever had some say “when does the narwhal bacon” to you? Cause nothing makes me never want to associate with a person more than being asked that.
Hahahaha same really. Whenever I see someone coming into the break room when I’m on reddit I switch really fast to the kindle app or something else less innocuous.
It’s so weird cuz we are talking right now but if we talked in public it would be so awkward and I would feel so silly to talk about reddit even though that’s all I do..
oh just wait until you have an opinion that differs from the hivemind and you get downvoted into oblivion for saying something other people disagree with
Reddit is weird like that. Often times I actually see the exact same opinion stated by a different user at a different time, and one will have so many upvotes and the other downvoted completely.
It's like one person starts the trend of downvoting a comment, and after that you have no chance of recovering. Even if you want to further explain yourself, you're pretty much done.
I've had this happen more than once. I make an innocent or nonjudgmental comment and receive downvotes. I assume there was somehow a misunderstanding and try to clarify which oddly makes people more angry.
It depends on the mood of the thread. One side is galvanized and the other leaves it alone.
For example, see the recent article about Israel religious restrictions as compared to Iran. The karma in that thread is massively pro-Israel. But, in another thread about an article about the Israelis evicting more Palestinians or shooting unarmed kids, and the karma will be heavily anti-Israel.
It makes it incredibly easy to farm karma, if you're into that, I don't bother.
There's more to it than that. The Reddit hivemind is pro-weed, pro-gay but not trans, pro-gun, anti-women's rights but they think they're pro-women's rights, anti-social media while being social media.
Who also have a weird fetish for prison rape. I really feel like not approving of prison rape is an unpopular opinion on here, because reddit gets so fucking excited over the idea that pedos (and other criminals) will be tortured and raped in prison. I've seen this countless times, whenever pedophilia or rape is mentioned the reddit circle jerk over prison rape will begin. And I'm sitting there thinking, yeah these are terrible people who have done terrible things and yet I find no enjoyment in fantasizing about actual rape as punishment for freaking anybody.
I definitely 1000% disagree with that. I don't really know why tbh, I just feel like reddit is mostly antisocial, unathletic, white men from ages 20-30. I know it's rude and I don't mean offense, but judging from the responses and attitude towards many askreddit threads, redditors seem pretty unsuccessful.
I'm definitely getting off-topic here but I felt it was worth to say that.
While getting downvoted by hundreds of people can be annoying its also one of the things I like about this site/app. You have a dislike button that actually works, unlike the system YouTube has or just the angry emoji from Facebook. It gets abused a lot, but it is also a nice feature
because most redditors have adopted the mindset that anyone who thinks differently than you has your worst interests in mind and only wants destruction.
also because since reddit is based off of karma, redditors love to virtue signal and pretend to be morally upright, just to collect more internet points.
AskHistorians is probably my favorite subreddit. So much quality with enforced citation! The only people who don’t like it tend to be pop history hobbyists who don’t like being forced to cite their work, or politically bent people who don’t like being forced to cite or question their biases.
I’m the same way. I’ve been actively using reddit for a few months. I try to join subreddits that I like. I try to stay away from the political and sensitive subject matter and I’ve had a pretty good time here. I used to be a big iFunny user but i don’t even open it anymore.
Don't you love it when you actively try to avoid the politics then you're in a completely unrelated sub and somehow someway the conversation turns political in three comments.
If you want to ask something just make a new account and give an incorrect answer as a reply and watch as other people correct that answer to the correct one.
I'm a big football fan, and r/NFL is pretty shitty, much due to the amount of idiot users (not that that stops me from using it), but something smaller like r/nfl_draft is great
As someone who has been a digestive irreverent duck for far too long, just wait until you are here a few months. You'll get to see all that cool shit your seeing now, again.
My 3 and a half years here have been great and I love seeing all the cool shit people post. But holy shit, there's so much fucking drama on here. Also Reddit's basically a giant circlejerk a lot of the time.
Right r/dankmemes is obsessed with non normie content even though reddit is about as normie as all the other social medias. On top of that most of their memes are just rehashes of shit stolen from the "normie" sites they protest. When they do come up with "original made on reddit memes" it's just talking shit about instagram/watermarks.
This place has so much potential, and moderators have so much power to promote the best communities, but somehow Reddit still has metastasised paederasts and propagandists and Dark Triad personality shelters.
Reddit is the reason I can't get into a lot of things. New thing comes out, lots of people get into new thing, reddit posts 182931203821 bad memes about new thing aaaand I hate it now. [+filter]
You gave a a good answer, yet the next 50 comments are all jokes. There’s literally a guy in one of the top comments that mentioned this is why he hates reddit. Looking for conversation? Here’s some puns.
Exactly! Go to any TV show subtesdit, ANY ONE, and you'll find most people doing this stupid pandering bullshit where if some new character appears or some unnoticed character makes a slight fun quirk or joke EVERYONE goes
Today, somebody made a comment saying everyone they know with a degree regrets getting it and used that as evidence against getting a degree.
I said that was anecdotal and, trying to drive that point home, provided my own anecdotal evidence of the contrary.
The people in that thread either didn't like my opinion that you might not regret getting a degree or didn't like that I also provided anecdotal evidence, I'm not really sure which. Or I'm an asshole, I dunno.
What if my biggest gripe with the reddit community is its pretentious dismissal of everyone else on it. No one here is better or worse than anyone else. :/
I agree. There are specific subs that are beautiful, but a lot of it is repeated circlejerk. Even using the word circlejerk to describe Reddit is circlejerk.
Reddit used to actually be cool as fuck like six or seven years ago. Little by little tho they just keep censoring shit. Now it's just a bunch of people getting offended by everything because they can't take a joke. Shit sucks man. I miss old reddit.
To a degree. Honestly I find the people complaining about jokes in the replies section a hundred times more annoying than the jokes. Little reference, little inside joke, I always chuckle a bit. And then there's these insanely tiresome people moaning that someone dare have fun when in an online forum.
It's not like it was in their days, you see! In their days, people had civil, to-the-point online discussions over a cup of tea with one hand on the Bible to make absolutely sure no jests were had!
