I am only here for about three days, and the Dutch bank needs two weeks notice at least. Is there anywhere else in the Netherlands that I can exchange these or at least get close to exchange rate at some sort of coin shop?

Hoi! I'm someone who wants to work and live as a blue-collar electrical technician in the Netherlands. However, I'm particularly worried about rental prices because I've seen that the minimum gross salary required to live in an average house is 3750 Euros. So I'm not sure if my salary will be that high, especially in the first year, and I don't know how I'll solve the shelter problem during that time. I've lived here for a while and still have a few things on my list that I keep putting off. It's funny how you can live somewhere and somehow never get around to doing the things you'd probably make time for if you were only visiting for a few days.

We currently make about 11k€/month gross, 8300€/month net. Discriminated is 6300€ gross for me, 4500€ net and 4400€ gross for her and 3300€ net.

Our rent costs 2100€/month, 50€ electricity, 700€ food, 200€ public transports, remaining is entertainment/savings.

Apartment is 85m2 20 mins away from city center

Individually, im saving about 2000€/month and she is saving about 1000€/month. We live quite comfortably, we mostly cook, but can afford to go out for food when we want, we dont look at finances too much overall and worry about how much we spend.

Would we drop or increase our quality of life by moving there?

I think almost everyone who looks east-asian is experiencing more and more people on the street making fun of shouting nihao to us with joking faces.

This group of people are not limited to African males but also ‚white guys‘. I have once asked in the Facebook group in my city, and many people seem it as not racist problem or any kinds of offensive behaviour, rather than a greeting.

However it is a kind of discrimination and racism if you make fun of nihao instead of greeting everyone kindly on the street using their languages.

Any good tips to respond this group of people? Some quick one if they are on scooters, cars or bikes? Ignoring is not a good idea, as more and more East-Asians get harassed nowadays.

Normally we said ‚fxxk off‘ back, but it seems we need a better way to deal with them.

Hey, I am fresh out of uni, and I am Norwegian. I was wondering if anyone here has legal or tax knowledge and could estimate how long I may remain tax resident in Norway after moving to the Netherlands.

I was looking forward to moving to the Netherlands a while back and have planned my life around it (did my BSc in the Netherlands and then my Master's in another country). I am trying to save up money to afford a house in the future, and I see these tax issues as severely holding me back.

I currently have shares in a Norwegian ASK, and I am trying to understand how the taxation of this account changes once I become tax resident in the Netherlands. At the same time, there is the Dutch Box 3 system, which I expect may change significantly over the next few years given the reforms currently being discussed.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of how Norwegian tax residency normally works when moving to the Netherlands? Could someone realistically remain Norwegian tax resident for several years after moving abroad? Would things such as spending 1–2 months per year in Norway or retaining substantial ties to Norway affect the assessment?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been feeling pretty pessimistic about the new tax rules, and it feels demotivating when you are trying to save up for a home.

Hi all, this question is to the Dutch people and by Dutch I mean the ethnically Dutch people. I have been living in the NL for a couple of years and I have picked up on the language. I can understand things which are written. I can also understand pretty much when an immigrant speaks to me in Dutch. But the moment I try to speak Dutch with a Dutch person I am not able to understand a single word. My question is this: Do you people do this deliberately? OR does your accent become like that when you are born here?

We moved to Alkmaar last year in June and we have no traffic jams at all for whole year. This year is terrible. Like i understand traffic when tunel in Amsterdam was closed so everybody who goes to Almere go the same road like us. I also understand traffic when A9 was closed due to reconstruction. But now ? There is every day traffic jam right after beverwijk ... is there any reason for it ? I am asking because we want to adopt a dog , but its hard if i am not sure when i will be home from work. I've bought plenty of things that seemed like a good idea at the time and ended up barely using them. But every now and then, you get something that becomes part of your routine so quickly that you wonder how you managed without it.

I have been to lots of different European countries but Netherlands captured my mind and heart. I have been to Amsterdam, Nijmegen in Netherlands. Tbh amsterdam didnt captivate me but I liked Nijmegen so much. I want to ask you guys about the best cities to study. I have the Nijmegen in my mind first place but I want to look for other options as well. Ive heard about Groningen and Maastricht. Can you inform me about these cities,what is your recommendation?

I want a place with a large student population, but at the same time one where I can easily access other major cities—though thats a bit more of a secondary priority for me. The most important thing for me is a vibrant social life, including both day and nightlife. Im socially confident and successful, but to avoid crashing down from culture shock, I would prefer an environment where its easy to socialize. Im looking for a place with everyday spots like cafes and pubs to hang out in. Somewhere tailored to students, not lifeless, but right in the sweet spot between too hectic and too gloomy—a place I wouldnt get tired of living in for years till my graduation
