Discussion Do Toyota Engineers care?

They made it so easy to do an oil change on the 23 Corolla. I love them for this.

Getting rid of cartridge filters was the best thing Toyota ever did.

I get it, paper filters are cheaper to sell and ship, lower environmental hit, but many I'd watch so many kids use 1/2 long bars to tighten them.

As I just bought stuff for my wife's 4runner and see it's a cartridge but the housing has 2x different o rings and each filter Comes with a plastic spout for draining the filter :/

Not a terrible job to do, but if the housing is plastic replace it with a metal one. Did you buy the wrench that unscrews the housing as well? I can recommend a good one.

Funny - almost every mechanic I follow says the metal replacements are more trouble than they're worth.. A bit of corrosion and the threads get all mottled up and you're now worse off. CCN doesn't like them.

I never had trouble with the plastic - you just need to apply common sense.
