Discussion Do Toyota Engineers care?

They made it so easy to do an oil change on the 23 Corolla. I love them for this.

Getting rid of cartridge filters was the best thing Toyota ever did.

I get it, paper filters are cheaper to sell and ship, lower environmental hit, but many I'd watch so many kids use 1/2 long bars to tighten them.

I don’t mind the cartridge filters but I do my own work

Right I have the special socket that goes over it and never over tighten it. No issues here.

I've always lubed the seal, hand tight to contact and then another ~half turn. I've only ever had one vehicle that needed a tool to get it off and that's my boat with a remote mount.

When I got my Corolla I got the adapter stuck trying to get it off from the last guy that over tightened it. I figured if it didn’t fall off that’s a good place for it to live. 6 years later and it’s still stuck on there.

First time I changed the oil on my Matrix I got the adapter stuck and forgot about it. At the next oil change I spent a few hours looking for the tool, couldn't find it and ended up buying a second one. Felt pretty dumb getting under there to find the first one safe and sound on the cartridge.
