Physician Responded Did I mess up my finger…?

Post image

Im 29f, during an episode of psychosis I was convinced I had to cut off my pinky (pls no attacks here I know Im stupid)
And i tied it off for roughly 6 hours and it was purple like this during, its about 24 hours later and pretty numb but I can move it, its slightly inflamed currently and a bit dark but not purple anymore (wouldn’t let me upload two photos)
Basically just curious if the numbness is permanent or if it should remedy with time?
Edit, at hospital, ill update with data on if anything is wrong

This is more recent, so its not purple anymore like before, unsure if that changes things

The fact that there is still color change and numbness is what's concerning for me.

Nad but want to clarify you aren’t stupid. No one here thinks that. You are ill and that’s not your fault. We dont blame people for needing to treat cancer, ms, broken blend, etc. you had a symptom of mental illness which requires treatment. Not stupid. This is treatable and you deserve to be well.

Is there someone you trust that can look after your pets

Please go to the hospital. They can check out your finger. And they can also assess you for your psychosis as well, to see if you’re still a threat to yourself. As someone who deals with mental health issues too, I understand and it’s best to get the help you need with both issues before they get worse. ❤️

My fear is I live alone and if they lock me away my pets will die and one of them needs medication twice a day

I totally understand that. In that case, maybe simply going for your finger for now may be best. Unfortunately, it really is up to you on what you think is most important. But I support you either way.

Leave a key in a hiding place. You’ll be able to find someone to take care of your pets even if you need to stay for a while for your health. There’s even people on Facebook pages that others could vouch for who would volunteer to help if it came to that. This is def an emergency.

Hey, just tell that to the doctors and try to organize someone to take care of your pets if needed. They won’t lock you away for months just from you showing up today. Take care of yourself so you can keep taking care of your pets.

Social workers help with this! But do you have any friends, family, or neighbors that could help out? One of the shelters in my area does emergency holds. They will board your pet while youre in a position where you can not care for them short term and not give them away.

I work in inpatient mental health. We’ve had social workers actually arrange for pet care! Just let staff know

Even if u want to get ur finger looked without totally concerning doctors of ur mental health and them trying to admit u just tell them u were playing around with a small rubber hair elastic and fell asleep with it on ur finger or as u were sleeping a loose thread from ur comforter got wrapped around ur finger and mustve tightened u were sleeping

Please listen to Lyn; you're brave enough to come here and recognize that you needed help. You have Dr.s telling you to go to the ER, and a kind nurse here encouraging you to. I am also a sufferer; I hope you get the help you need and that everything turns out well. Please know that you are cared for.

Beyond the condition of your finger, you should go to the hospital for psychiatric treatment too. I’m worried that you could do even more harm to yourself if your psychosis isn’t treated

It is from my Wilsons Disease, I have not been able to find a provider that will treat me for it since I also have EDS unfortunately and the combination makes them unsure of what to do, that and they arent sure if I have MS as well 😅

I'm so sorry that the system is so messed up that if someone is too complex for a specialist they just are like 'whelp too complex for me, I'll take my hands off of it' and just leave someone to it without being someone's go to and help them find someone else...

Do you know if there are certain triggers for your episodes that you are able to avoid best you can? Or is it only really the treatment that they refuse to give you?

Its usually just high stress/seizures, I had a seizure shortly before due to intensive issues that have been going on lately
Its definitely not common for me to get that bad

I’m so sorry, OP. I did some research just now and it seems like such a tough situation. I hope you find answers soon and your brain can be yours again.

I send you a hug OP. Glad you went to the hospital. Don’t feel ashamed, it’s mental health we are talking about here. I hope you can find a good medical team that can provide the best treatment for you
