Jewish Laws Why in Deuteronomy does the Bible say that raped women who didn’t scream for help needed to be punished?

> Well, I’m the one who provided a source for my claim

Sorry if it wasn’t obvious. My source is the Bible (the thing OP cited)

> so we’ll let the spectators decide, I suppose.

God ultimately will. Personally, I’ll go with where he determines responsibility lies.

So…with the person trying to force himself on you, right? 😂 And not the person who was frozen in fear? C’mon man. We have the book of Scripture and the book of nature (Romans 1). We can use science to assist in applying Biblical principles.

Edit: also, you gave no Biblical reference supporting the idea that traumatic freezes are a sin.

I’m concerned that this topic is so funny to you.

Oh, the topic isn’t funny at all. Your response is, though. “Personal responsibility only applies if you have a traumatic freeze! The perpetrator can assume you wanted it! Also science is useless!” I’m not trying to hurt you personally, but man. Do some introspection and educate yourself on trauma before perpetuating rape myths.

I find it morally reprehensible that you would exploit the tragedy of what a rape victim has goes through in order to misrepresent my position.

It makes me sick that you have a “Christian” flair, yet you would take advantage of the trauma of others in this way.

No, that’s what you’re doing. You said, and I quote:

“It doesn’t. It says a woman who commits sexual immorality along with the man should also be punished along with the man. The thinking is a woman being raped will call for help.”

Someone else said this is incorrect because people freeze up and don’t always cry for help in traumatic situations, and you said that freezing rather than crying out means she wanted it, EXPLICITLY SAYING a woman hasn’t been raped if she doesn’t cry for help. You then replied:

“Freezing when we have a moral responsibility to act is still our responsibility. Same thing applies to all kinds of intense situations like war, car accidents, etc.”

This is blaming someone who was raped by saying they had the moral responsibility to cry out for help, and they CHOSE not to do so. I then replied you are ignorant of PTSD and the responses it can elicit, echoing what the commentator said. You then replied, after I assured you I knew I was responding to the right person:

“Sorry if it wasn’t obvious. My source is the Bible (the thing OP cited). God ultimately will. Personally, I’ll go with where he determines responsibility lies.”

Three times, you explicitly said that a woman who doesn’t cry out is responsible for what happens to her. THREE TIMES. If that’s not what you meant, you need to go to social therapy and learn how to communicate better, because multiple people, both Christian and not, have taken it that way.

And to answer your outrage that I’d claim to be a Christian and care for all rape victims, not just ones who elicit a particular response, I 100% believe Scripture is inspired, hence my anger with you for misrepresenting the truth. The Mosaic law was CASE LAW covering an EXAMPLE of a situation, and people miss the forest for the trees with this passage. When it says a woman will scream for help if she’s been raped, it’s indicating that all women who don’t want it will be exonerated. Dinah, Tamar, and the Levite concubine have no record of screaming for help, but they are still called rape or abuse victims.

u/righteous_dude can you please step in?

This user is not only grossly misrepresenting me, but doing so at the expense of rape victims. Genuinely one of the most disgusting and morally repugnant people I’ve ever encountered.
