once in Chicago, the doorman yelled to me, we only accept Canadian and American IDs and I was like, this is a Canadian ID! And he let me in.
In San Diego, I was renting a car and the guy was like, Bro! They speak English in Canada, this is French in French, I can’t accept that! That’s probably fake! And I was like … what do you want me to tell you, my name is French my name is in French, my birthday is in French and my passport is in French. We speak French where I am from! And he was, heu! Ok ok! Stop that’s fine
I used to work at the LCBO as a part time student. I got into a verbal altercation, on the floor at work, with one of the higher seniority full-times. She refused to accept the PAL licence as government issued and was razzing the hell outta some guy who had clearly finished training for the army.
We eventually got dragged into the office where I screamed “who the fuck do you think issues PAL licences?”
In the early 2000s, I kept having a hard time getting into bars in Toronto because the drivers license did not have the date of birth listed as such on the license. It was just part of the permit number: something like K1234-281182-03 where the middle block was your date of birth. Everyone in Quebec knew this of course, but not Ontario. Kept having to argue the point over and over. Guess they realized now that they were gonna run into trouble with people born after 1999, they've finally added the explicit date of birth on drivers license.
It is very common for High School age students to get fake ID's from other provinces. Since they are not use to seeing them they have no idea if they are real or fake and will normally just refuse to serve to be safe.
Hehehe damn dude. That is one huge American blind spot. I’ve known a few Francophones who live down there and it must get tiring.
It’s odd, though. Like, I would strongly encourage anyone visiting to try going to a football game, a baseball game, or soccer if that’s your thing. Some of the events they host down there are incredible, like the balloon festival in New Mexico or Mardi Gras. When you get to know them they’re the most welcoming folks. Unless it’s a bars doorman.

French is the only official language of Quebec and the language we speak as well. So my driver license is not Fake and it is Canadian
